These women aimed to enhance the quality of life within the community through public service, leadership development, and education of our youth. The Kappa Omicron Sigma (KOS) Alumnae chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has a primary goal to provide financial assistance to high school seniors who are continuing their education at a college or university in Pennsylvania. In modeling our chapter after our seven founders, we believe that contributing to and recognizing the passion for education is paramount in our society. The Kappa Omicron Sigma (KOS) Alumnae chapter would like to invite high school seniors who are continuing their education to apply for our scholarships. The scholarships are being offered to students in Central Pennsylvania, which is the service area for our chapter. To provide a continual, yet evolving circle of proactive solutions in addressing both legacy and emergent challenges facing our families and local communities, the Kappa Omicron Sigma Alumnae chapter has created the Purpose Driven Scholarship for high school seniors that have chosen to further their education at a college or university in Pennsylvania. This year’s topic for our essay is “Firsts.” Barak Obama was our nation’s first Black president. Kamala Harris is our nation’s first female and first African-Asian Vice President. We ask that each applicant write an essay expressing their view on, “The Benefits and Challenges of Being First.” Feel free to utilize current or historical events to support your perspective on this subject.
