Convention began with a fl of activity. Arriving sisters were greeted at the airport by a smiling group of field consultants and National Headqualiters staff. Shuttled to the resort through the picturesque streets of Palm Springs, members registered for convention amid greetings of welcome and hugs of friendship while reuniting with old friends and meeting new ones. Many Sigma Kappas turned out for the National Council reception, where the 2006-2008 national council and 2008- 20 l011ational council nomi ees were on hand to meet and greet sisters.

Convention officially kic ed off with. the welcome banquet, where Pamela L. Bergsten, Theta Tau , national vice president for programming, welcomed the convention attendees to California on behalf of national council. After a warm beginning to convention, all members flocked to the resort's main staircase for a convention photo, which proved to be a challenge of grand proportions but also great fun . These sessions included topics on the NPC release figure methodology, new member selection processes, and charitable gift planning, and collegiate delegates were able to participate in officer roundtables. I was a member of the Theta Xi colony, and our field consultant was Cheri Morrell DeJong, who was standing next to me. Lucile Duncan, the "Grand Dean" and past national president, presented me with my national council emblem. Sheila Barnes, who served on national council when my chapter was installed, was just a few feet_away, and seated within the sea of Sigma Kappa faces were the current executive officers of my collegiate chapter, Theta Xi.
