Berlin - Wikipedia
Berlin - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin Coordinates: 52°30′26″N 13°8′45″E Berlin From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Berlin (/bɜːrˈlɪn, ˌbɜːr-/, German: [bɛɐ̯ˈliːn]) is the capital and the largest city of Germany as well as one of its 16 Berlin constituent states, Berlin-Brandenburg. With a State of Germany population of approximately 3.7 million,[4] Berlin is the most populous city proper in the European Union and the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin- Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has roughly 6 million residents from more than 180 nations[6][7][8][9], making it the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one- third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes.[10] First documented in the 13th century and situated at the crossing of two important historic trade routes,[11] Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933) and the Third Reich (1933–1945).[12] Berlin in the 1920s was the third largest municipality in the world.[13] After World War II and its subsequent occupation by the victorious countries, the city was divided; East Berlin was declared capital of East Germany, while West Berlin became a de facto West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall [14] (1961–1989) and East German territory. -

Pink Pillow – New Network of Hotels in Berlin
pink pillow – New Network of Hotels in Berlin Berlin, 4 March 2013 | The ITB will be the official launch of the pink pillow Berlin Collection. This new initiative from visitBerlin and the Berlin hotel industry invites hotels to come out as especially welcoming to gay and lesbian visitors to Germany's capital. The pink pillow Berlin Collection provides further evidence that Berlin is a tolerant and open metropolis and one of the world's leading gay travel destinations. That´s why visitBerlin and the Berlin hotel industry wanted to strengthen the city's reputation as an attractive destination for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons. The pink pillow Berlin Collection for the first time sets standards to be identified as especially welcoming. Each participating hotel of the pink pillow Berlin Collection stands for the right that everyone can be the way he wants to be and that every guest should feel safe and welcome. This unique project makes Berlin the first city in the world with a long-term LGBT tourism programme. Burkhard Kieker, CEO of visitBerlin, remarks: "In Berlin, tolerance is practised and all people are free to be themselves. The city has now created something new for the gay and lesbian travel market and has established a unique hotel network." Kicking off with 23 hotels in the pink pillow Berlin Collection The 23 hotels who have joined the pink pillow Berlin Collection at its launch include the nhow Berlin, the Grand Hotel Esplanade Berlin, the Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten, the Radisson Blu Hotel Berlin, and The Westin Grand Berlin. -

Celebrating Pride in Germany by Winnie McCroy EDGE Editor Tuesday May 31, 2016 PRINT EMAIL COMMENTS (0) If you love summer travel but hate to miss Pride, Europe's new QueerCityPass will allow you to easily navigate Germany's cornucopia of Pride events, from Munich to Berlin and and beyond with affordable ease. "We launched the QueerCityPass in Munich in December 2015," said Inga Hilgenberg of the German National Tourist Office. "It covers public transportation (inner area or total area), and gives discounts for many LGBT-friendly partners in Munich, like Bruno's shopping, the sights at Bavaria Filmstadt, or the (Source:Andreas Möltgen) nightlife at BAU." Europe's first tourist ticket especially for queer visitors, the QueerCityPass is also accesible in Vienna, Austria, and Zurich, Switzerland. Available as a single or group ticket for up to four days, the pass includes more than 40 queer-friendly partners, offers up to 50 percent off attractions, and permits free use of public transportation. The pass runs about 10,90€ -- around $12.40 a day. Tourists on the QueerCityPass can enjoy gay-friendly travel in Munich, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And with nearly 1.4 million inhabitants, Munich is a tolerant and liberal-minded city. "One great example of this is their motto, 'Munich traffic lights like it tolerant,'" joked transplant Edwin Seth Brown, a local expert who has spent the past decade living in Germany. -

Annual Report 2013/14 EPOA · ANNUAL REPORT 2013/14 Welcome to EPOA! EPOA, the European Pride Organisers Association, had a difficult working year. It is not a secret that maintaining a cross-border non-profit organisation with limited financial means is a daunting task. Add to the mix some new faces and new ideas and fireworks are guaranteed. Unfortunately some of the board members have left us half way through the working year for all sorts of different reasons. But looking back at some of the challenges we came across, it has to be said that the board and its vision has come out even stronger. So with the remaining board members we obviously ensured the proper functioning of the organisation but foremost lined ourselves up towards a better organisa- tion for the future.
