The Gledfield Estate A 5,000 acre estate in the Sutherland moors. The secluded Gledfield Estate is centred around an historic country house, which dates from the early 18th Century. Nestled in the Strathcarron Glen in the village of Ardgay, near Inverness, Gledfield lies on the shores of the Dornoch Firth, meaning you are treated to glorious views of both coast and countryside. The nearby sheltered sandy beaches benefit from a sunny microclimate, while the moorland and mountains provide a rugged backdrop just waiting to be explored along the many walking and hiking trails. The estate boasts its own salmon fishing river, plus six lochs with a thriving rainbow trout population. Meanwhile, the wooded hillsides and lower pastures are a bustling habitat for grouse, ptarmigan, pheasants and partridges. Gledfield lies in the Sutherland region – a major part of the famous North Coast 500 route, and therefore also offers the opportunity to visit some of spectacular highlights of the eastern section of the route. Fishing on one of Scotland’s best loved rivers The river Carron is a beautiful and unspoilt fishing beat, with some of the finest fly fishing waters available. The Gledfield beat runs from the Upper March Pool, right the way to The Bridge Pool, with access from the right-hand bank. There are 14 named pools, and some of which benefit from platforms and walkways to provide excellent access. The season runs from 11th January to 30th September, and you can be sure of good sport throughout this lengthy period thanks to our careful population management. With the maximum number of rods at any one time limited to just two, you are guaranteed a peaceful, secluded and prolific session.
