Magic the event, magic the track: Silverstone, Great Britain. As usual, and even more, a fantastic and incredible crowd in the grandstand and in the paddock. That’s the beauty of World Series by Renault! 00:50 JINGLE BREAK 00:55 HLTS & ITWS Formula 2.0 Race 1 French driver Jean Eric Vergne is in pole position in the Formula Renault 2.0 Race 1 of the weekend. He logically goes out keeping this first position, followed by a surprising but temporary Adam Kout. Third and fourth are the stars of this category, Antonio Da Costa from Portugal and Alberto Costa from Spain. Renault Sport Technologies Tél. : +33 (0)1 76 82 82 00 Z.A. Courtaboeuf Fax. : 33 (0)1 76 82 83 75 14, avenue des Tropiques Internet : www.renault- 91 978 Courtaboeuf Cedex - France sport.com 01:17 Jean Eric Vergne pulls away as behind him Adam Kout is difficult to pass although he is slow. Da Costa and Costa lose time and see Vergne disappearing. It’s time for action. Kout is passed by both drivers in a few hundred meters. 01:30 Meanwhile, far behind, the team mates MP Motosport Nigel Melker and Daniel de Jong crash together, probably annoying their manager. 01:37 Then, after a few laps, the gap between Vergne and Da Costa is no longer. Da Costa is cruel, passing with no mercy, and the Portuguese driver takes the lead. 01:50 Costa won’t stay behind Vergne for long; he is fighting with Da Costa for the overall standings and must keep up with him. Unfortunately Vergne cannot change history. Costa is second. 02:02 Da Costa has to drive hard fight to keep the lead and he finishes ahead of Costa, Vergne, Monras, Munoz and Magnussen. 02:13 ITW Antonio Felix Da Costa (POR) – #6 Motopark Academy (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “I pushed very hard and I saw I could catch Jean Eric Vergne and, I just pushed the whole race and finally I caught him and I made a move straight away, then I got a good gap again, it was really a good race” 02:30 Thanks to his first victory of the season, Da Costa strengthens his position and puts himself at the top of the Formula 2,0 overall standings. 02:40 JINGLE BREAK 02:45 Technical feature: Formula 2.0 car set-up Adrian Quaife-Hobbs is born near Brands Hatch, possibly giving this young 18 year old driver a suggested destiny. He drives for the Motopark Academy team. Our question is: knowing that all Formula 2.0 litre cars are the same, what can you do to go faster than the others? 03:03 ITW Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (GBR) - #9 Motopark Academy (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “Usually, if there’s someone in the team who is the quickest, we just look at the data and if it’s someone from another team, we look at the sector times because the track is usually divided in three sectors. And then you can see in which sectors you’re gaining and in which sectors you’re are losing and try and work out because you usually have got a rough idea of which corner it’s going to be. So you can work on the corner where you lose time and then put that into practice the next time you go out” 03:25 To make a good car and a good result, a perfect coordination between the driver and technicians is necessary. Let’s listen to German engineer Eric Baumgartner. 03:42 ITW Eric Baumgartner (GER) – Motopark Academy race engineer (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “One of the main things is aerodynamics, on the front you have wings and also at the rear. This part is the moving part of the rear wing and it’s adjusted by resetting the bolts here. Second thing on the mechanical set up, you can change the springs which are here and change or adjust rear roll bars” 04:20 In wet conditions, it’s necessary to have a maximum tire contact surface on the ground. The solution is modifying the wheels’ angle. 04:30 ITW Eric Baumgartner (GER) – Motopark Academy race engineer (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “The camber angle is basically the angle between perpendicular and the wheel. You can adjust it here so in the wet we reduce the camber” Renault Sport Technologies Tél. : +33 (0)1 76 82 82 00 Z.A. Courtaboeuf Fax. : 33 (0)1 76 82 83 75 14, avenue des Tropiques Internet : www.renault- 91 978 Courtaboeuf Cedex - France sport.com 04:46 Of course, there are many other things to do when you want to go fast. Small things which, when added one by one, can make a big difference on the track. But still the main ingredient of success is talent. Making a good car is mostly technical but pushing hard everywhere is a human question. And then it’s a total secret. No driver in the world is able to divulge that information. 05:05 JINGLE BREAK 05:10 HLTS & ITWS Formula 2.0 Race 2 Quaife-Hobbs (#9) joins the start of the grid of Silverstone Race 2 in fourth position, Vergne (#) is in pole position again in front of Costa (#14) and then the surprising Kout (#32.) 05:20 It looks like Race 1 but it won’t finish the same way. Jean Eric Vergne is leading, Costa is just behind and the other top cars get blocked by Adam Kout. 05:32 As Quaife-Hobbs stays in fourth position behind a Kout impossible to pass, an exciting and beautiful fight takes place between the two leading cars. Costa will try everything, lap after lap, to pass the leader Vergne. 05:50 Passing is impossible. Everybody can feel that something is going to happen. 05:55 And it happens but Vergne will not be passed. 06:04 ITW Jean Eric Vergne (FRA) - #1 SG Formula (FRENCH LANGUAGE) “It was a bit hot, I closed the door but he tried to pass in the grass. The problem is that it was impossible to pass. And then I am here to win, I was not here to let him pass and unfortunately for him, he hit me and he span, I saw that in the mirrors” 06:22 Costa is now sixth and is fighting with Da Costa. Too much fighting. Both pilots are out. 06:29 So Vergne wins the race. Kout is logically following. Adrian Quaife-Hobbs saves Britain’s honour, on his home circuit, with a third position. And now, a very short break for our magazine: stay with us! 06:55 JINGLE BREAK 07:00 END OF PART 1 Renault Sport Technologies Tél. : +33 (0)1 76 82 82 00 Z.A. A very special moment now at Silverstone once again, with the F1 champion Nigel Mansell driving the Formula Renault 3.5 car of his son Greg!! 00:20 ITW Greg Mansell (GBR) - #3 Ultimate Motorsport (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “He never experienced that before, so all this is an exhibition. I wish he could do some testing and get the car set-up well for me, but it’s not going to happen!” 00:27 TRANSLATION BREAK – DO NOT TALK! 00:32 ITW Greg Mansell (GBR) - #3 Ultimate Motorsport (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “Oh, broke very early, going down three gears, get up the speed… It’s very interesting to see how he’s close to our times!” 00:41 TRANSLATION BREAK – DO NOT TALK! 00:46 ITW Greg Mansell (GBR) - #3 Ultimate Motorsport (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “… He does not crash hopefully… Fingers crossed!” 00:48 TRANSLATION BREAK – DO NOT TALK! 00:58 ITW Nigel Mansell – F1 World champion with Renault (ENGLISH LANGUAGE) “This is the first time I driven a car with the left foot brake and on the first lap I got braking with my right foot, which was not fun because when I tried to brake I pushed the accelerator… So that woke me up to remember to push with the left leg! The last time I was here in a quick car, the brake was always on the right, not the left, so… It was good, the car is very good! World Series by Renault is a great series.
