Jeydon Lopez The four bad boys and Me For sure kilala niyo naman yung F4 di ba? Meron din niyan dito sa school namin. Tawag namin sakanila, APAT. Jeydon Lopez. Cute, mayaman at sobrang kulit. Ako? Ako si Candice Gonzales. Im just a nobody.. Nerd.. Weird.. Forever alone.. Kaso lang lahat yan nag bago, yung tahimik kong buhay. GUMULO! Lahat yun kagagawan ng FOUR BAD BOYS. 1. First Kiss "Ang gwapo ng apat! lalo si Jeydon nuh?" "Oo nga eh! Gosh! kinikilig ako sakanya!" "Look girls, papunta sila dito!" "Hi Jeydon!" sabi nung babaeng makapal yung make up tapos sobrang ikli ng palda. "I'm Stella by the way." inabot niya yung kamay niya kay Jeydon pero imbis na makipag kamay siya dun sa Stella, tinitigan lang niya yun na may blankong ekpresyon ng mukha. "Can you get away from me? You ugly creature." Ambisyosa!" "Feeler kasi! Haha!" "How dare her, hindi sila bagay ni Papa Jeydon. Masyado siyang gwapo." Gwapo? Loko to ah! May pagka anti-social kasi ako, haha! NO WAY HIGH WAY! Malamang sulat. Ano ba naman 'to. "Wow Troy! may gusto sayo yung kapatid ni tandang Charles oh! HAHA ewww ha!" sabi ni Jeydon. Ang yabang talaga! Leche plan!

  • Babadap-Badap" Ni Gary Granada
In this paper, the author presents the various performances of gender and kabaklaan caused by the persona’s confession of love to his addressee in Gary Granada’s song, “Babadap-badap” (2005). Through the use of close reading and various concepts culled from gender studies, this article shows the different manners by which the song’s bakla persona is able to use the usual stereotypes attributed to his identity in locating himself within the local cultural milieu and in critiquing the gender identity of his male addressee.

Group 1, 4M Music, 3rd Term Anupol, Cayabyab, Chua, Luarca, Shimamoto, Torio, Yumol PHILIPPINE MUSIC I. YEAR AND HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Philippine Music is divided into four eras or traditions, namely Ethnic, Spanish Colonial, American Colonial and Contemporary traditions. Majority of Philippine Music really revolves around cultural influence from the West, due primarily to the Spanish and American rule for over 3 centuries. Oriental (ethnic) musical backgrounds are still alive, but mainly thrive in highland and lowland barrios where there is little Western influence. II. THE ERAS ETHNIC TRADITION (9th to early 16th century) Philippine ethnic musical traditions are diverse in nature, although there are many common instruments and life-cycle functions. They differ and vary mainly in form and structure, performance media, style, aesthetics, and theoretical properties (temperaments, scales, modes, and terminologies). The diversity of ethnic musical traditions arises from several significant historical accidents. The Philippines had proto-Malays as the first inhabitants, followed by settlers from mainland and insular Southeast Asia. In essence, the separate regional settlements in the country were a result of this wave of migration. Chinese, Malay, Indonesian and Arab merchants started dynamic trading with the people of Ma-i (now Mindoro). With the trading, the merchants not only traded goods but also religious and social ideas. Indian culture was very much evident and had a strong imprint in the culture then. Islam was introduced in the 14th century in the island of Sulu. Various communities adopted this new religion, which very much influenced their culture and music. Indigenous music can be instrumental or vocal. This musical tradition may mark rites of passage and life-cycle events for the early Filipinos.

The New Manila Sound: Music and Mass Culture, 1990s and Beyond A dissertation submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Music James Gabrillo Peterhouse, University of Cambridge November 2018 This dissertation is the result of my own work and includes nothing which is the outcome of work done in collaboration. I further state that no substantial part of my dissertation has already been submitted, or, is being concurrently submitted for any such degree, diploma or other quali- fication at the University of Cambridge or any other University or similar institution. It does not exceed the word limit prescribed by the Degree Committee. "2 of 293" The New Manila Sound: Music and Mass Culture, 1990s and Beyond James Gabrillo Abstract This dissertation provides the first detailed account of the mass musical culture of the Philippines that originated in the 1990s and continues to be the most popular style of musical entertainment in the country — a scene I dub the New Manila Sound. Through a combination of archival research, musical analysis, and ethnographic fieldwork, my ex- amination focuses on its two major pioneers: the musical television programme Eat Bula- ga! (Lunchtime Surprise) and the pop-rock band Aegis. I document the scene’s rise and development as it attracted mostly consumers from the lower classes and influenced oth- er programmes and musicians to adapt its content and aesthetics. The scene’s trademark kitsch qualities of parody, humour, and exaggeration served as forms of diversion to au- diences recovering from the turbulent dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos from 1965 to 1986, when musical works primarily comprised of state-commissioned nationalist an- thems, Western art music, and protest songs.

  • Loving Pranksters
Kamikazee Loving Pranksters By Karlo C. Cleto Kamikazee has come quite a long way from the band that launched its career with a nu-metal limerick about a lost pair of tsinelas and a lovingly sloppy cover of Britney Spear’s “Lucky”. Formed in 2000 by singer Jay Contreras, guitarists Jomal Linao and Led Tuyay, bassist Puto Astete and drummer Bords Burdeos when they were students at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines Diliman, Kamikazee has in the eleven years of its existence eclipsed its rather collegiate jokecore roots and become one of the most consistently engaging and surprising rock bands on the local circuit. The jokes are still there- comedy is an indelible aspect of Kamikazee’s music after all- but the laughs are tempered with an ever expanding musicality and compositional confidence. First gaining notoriety for their confrontational, off-kilter and completely irreverent live performances, it was the release of Kamikazee’s 2006 sophomore album Maharot that established the band as one of the top rock units in the country. At its center was the soaring ode to unrequited love, “Narda”, which revealed that the band could handle earnest sweetness as adroitly as it could the comic-punk histrionics with which they had first made their name. The band’s third album, 2009’s Long Time Noisy, would see the band expand its sonic palette as well as the scope of their songs’ subject matter, infusing biting social commentary and a greater sense of adventure and rock experimentalism into songs like “Wala.” The band’s latest album Romantico, is, according to Contreras, a collection of love songs.
