A total of 1333 stu dents (970 undergraduate and 363 graduate and professional) are listed in this commencement program. The candidates for undergraduates include 245 Associate in Arts, 34 Bachelor of Applied Science, 47 Bachelor of Health Science, 250 Bachelor of Business Administration, 284 Bachelor of Science, and 110 Bachelor of Arts. In addition to the 1333 students in the graduation program today, 493 students have earned bachelor's degrees through the University's program at Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Of the graduate and professional candidates, there are 87 Master of Business Administration, 48 Master of Education, 6 Master of School Administration, 16 Master of Arts, 27 Master of Divinity, 82 Doctor of Pharmacy, and 97 Juris Doctors. Included with the 1333 in the program today are the 417 students who completed their degree in December 1999 and another 235 who finished in August 1999. The 681 candidates who completed their requirements this month complete the Class of 2000. Today's ceremony marks the the 114th graduation exercises of Campbell University. Established in 1887 as an academy with a charter-class enrollment of sixteen students, Campbell University has developed into a major university that will enroll more than 8,000 students during the 2000 academic year. Students hail from all one-hundred North Carolina coun ties, fifty states of the United States and thirty-five countries of the world. Established as a liberal arts college which initially awarded the Associate and Bachelors degrees, the academic program of Campbell University was greatly expanded in 1976 when the tmstees authorized the establishment of graduate programs in education and business and the awarding of the Master of Education and Master of Business Administration degrees. Doctoral programs were authorized by the tmstees in 1976 with the establishment of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and the awarding of the Juris Doctor degree. The Doctor of Pharmacy degree was approved in 1985 with the establishment of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and the Doctor of Education degree in 1985 with the organ ization of the Campbell University School of Education. The university's newest and sixth school. The Campbell University Divinity School, was established on October 25,1995 and enrolled the charter class in August, 1997. The Divinity School will award the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees. Because of the university's strategic location, Campbell provides educational opportunities for service men and women at military centers located at Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina National Guard Center, Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, New River Air Base, and Camp Lejeune. In keeping with the university's commitment to global education, Campbell University students regularly enroll in inter national programs in Malaysia, Great Britain, France, Italy, and South America. Currently, more than 1,400 smdents from Malaysia are enrolled in Campbell University at Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Supported by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Campbell University is committed to the mission of providing its students with a Christian worldview and a charge to be "the salt of the earth and the light of the world." Open to all qual ified students, Campbell's student-body includes persons from more than forty different denominations and faiths. The second largest private university in North Carolina and the third largest Baptist university in the world, Campbell University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the American Bar Association, the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, North Carolina Department of Public Instmction, and the Council on Social Work Education. Throughout its 114-year history, Campbell University has been led by three presidents: Dr James A. Campbell, Dr Leslie H. Campbell, and the current president. Norman Adrian Wiggins President, Campbell University .. Dunng Dr. Wiggins 33-year tenure as President, the University has grown into an intemationally recognized university of six schools which is com prised of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, the School of Education, the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, the School of Pharmacy, and the Divinity School. A graduate of Campbell College, President Wiggins is an honor graduate of both Wake Forest College and Wake Forest Law School. He earned the LL.M and J.S.D. degrees with distinction from Columbia University Law School. Dr. Wiggins served as Professor of Law at Wake Forest University and General Counsel of the University prior to coming to Campbell University in 1967 as president. A recognized leader in both legal and educa tional organizations. President Wiggins has led state and national organizations, including the presidency of the Independent Colleges of North Carolina, the North Carolina Association of Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the National Association of College and University Attomeys. An active churchman. President Wiggins has served as President of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, the national organization of the Fellowship of Baptist Men, and the Sunday School Board of the Southern B^tist Convention. It is very significant that during last year's 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the North Carolina Bar Association, Dr. Wiggins received the John J. Parker Award, which has been awarded only 24 times during the last century. He was also honored by the Biblical Recorder as one of the most influential Baptist Leaders of the twentieth century. A veteran of WW E, President Wiggins' interest in the national defense of our coun try prompted the University to establish an Army ROTC program which is recognized as being one of the premier programs of the nation. He holds a B.A. degree in Welsh, a B.D. degree in New Testament Greek and Christian Doctrine, and the M.A. degree with a thesis on the history of the Baptist Ministry from the University of Wales. Reverend Matthews was awarded the M.Phil, degree by Spurgeon's College London, under the aegis of the Council for National Academic Awards. Reverend Matthews currently serves as Principal of South Wales Baptist College of Cardiff and Dean of Theology at Cardiff University. He is a regular contributor to Welsh religious publications and has written a number of books, primarily in the Welsh language. Over a period of twenty-four years, Reverend Matthews has pastored four Welsh-speaking churches. Three were small country churches.
