Sarà dunque Laigueglia, e la Riviera di Ponente, la prima grande sfida stagionale che Danilo Di Luca, maglia rosa dell’ultimo Giro d’Italia, affronterà dopo le travagliate vicende che lo hanno costretto ad un riposo forzato nella seconda metà dello scorso anno. Alla guida della nuova ambiziosa formazione LPR, affiancato da Paolo Savoldelli, Di Luca sarà al via del 45° Trofeo Laigueglia ed è una notizia che arricchisce ulteriormente di contenuti l’atteso appuntamento del prossimo 23 febbraio, confermatosi quest’anno più che mai come l’evento che segna l’avvio del grande ciclismo in Italia. Saà ampia e qualificata la partecipazione internazionale, con 25 squadre al via: Tinkoff Credit System, Liquigas, Lampre-Fondital, Rabobank, C.S.C, Cofidis-Le Credit par Telephone, Silence-Lotto, Team Milram, Acqua&Sapone-Caffè Mokambo, CSF Group- Navigare, Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli, Slipstream Chipotle Presented By H30, Team Barloworld, LPR Brakes, NGC Medical-OTC Industria Porte, Ceramica Flaminia Bossini, Amore&Vita-Mc Donald’s, TopSport Vlaanderen, Mitsubishi- Jartazi, Preti Mangimi, Landbowkredit Tonissteiner, High Road, Francais des Jeux, Miche, Nippo Endeka. Verrà quindi onorata la tradizione di un evento che non ha mai mancato di fornire spunti tecnici importanti ed uno spettacolo di qualità su un percorso di 183,3 km che propone le giuste difficoltà con due passaggi sul passo del Ginestro ed il trampolino finale sul passo del Balestrino, riuscendo sempre ad offrire una corsa interessante e molto animata. Di Luca e Savoldelli sono stati peraltro due vincitori passati del Trofeo Laigueglia e pertanto la loro presenza ha un significato particolare in un campo di partenti che certo non lesina nomi di rilievo ed amplia quindi la rosa dei possibili candidati alla vittoria. Tra questi c’è certamente Filippo Pozzato che quest’anno ritenta l’impresa del terzo successo a Laigueglia, impresa finora mai riuscita ad alcuno. La sua formazione, la Liquigas, ha intanto informato gli organizzatori sulla composizione del team, confermando le proprie ambizioni con una squadra decisamente di livello che comprende anche Vincenzo Nibali, Murilo Fischer, Leonardo Bertagnolli e Andrea Noè. Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome (four times) and now Geraint Thomas have won six of the last seven Tour de France GC “yellow jerseys”, riding for Team Sky. With this victory, Team Sky has now won the “General Classification” (or GC) competition in the last four grand tours on the trot (the Tour de France twice, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España). The world of professional cycling has, like many sports at the professional level, changed a great deal over the years. This article focuses on how data- and facts- driven risk management is embedded into modern-day race strategy, tactics and decision-making in the grand tour races.
