STONE AND ALEXANDER CAMPBELL Alexander Campbell's proposal for the epistolary exchange on the subject of atonement was that Barton W. Stone would "write four pages per month for the Harbinger; and should any difference occur, I will occupy four pages in biblical criticism upon such terms as may not be by us understood in the same sense." He further proposed that this discussion be published only in The Millennial Harbinger so that "the matter can have a more extensive hearing in this paper than in any other" and because he objected "to a discussion going on in two papers as holding opposite sides on any question whatever" (MH, 1840, pp. 82-83). For his part, Barton Stone had planned to dispose of the matter in "four numbers on the Atonement" (MH, 1841, p. 113). Thus, the exchange should have consisted of eight letters and occupied thirty-two pages in The Millennial Harbinger. However, the published exchange consists of twenty-two letters, occupying some 128 pages of that periodical from June 1840 through September 1841. In the pages of The Christian Messenger, the discussion consists of twenty-one letters, occupying about 168 pages from September 1840 through June 1841. If the related articles and notices are included, the discussion then occupies 145 pages in the Harbinger and 193 pages in the Messenger. The following table catalogue the letters that comprise the "Atonement" exchange. It will be noticed that the letters appear in a significantly different sequence in the pages of The Christian Messenger; four of Alexander Campbell's replies to Barton W. Stone's "reviews" (rejoinders) are omitted; a "review" of Campbell's fifth letter (erroneously called the sixth in the published title) is included, as well as Barton W. They found time to create the new tunes that make up their new record Oddfellows that will be released worldwide in January 2013 on Ipecac Recordings. This is not a reunion….unless that means they will make more money. The band released their self titled debut in 2001, followed by Mit Gas in 2003 and Anonymous in 2007. They released a limited edition vinyl box set Eponymous to Anonymous (cheeky, huh?) in early 2012. They camped out at Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye studios in Nashville with Collin Dupuis and left with Oddfellows to show for it. To kick off the frenzy that is sure to follow they have released a one-sided 7 inch single “Stone Letter” this November. The b-side is an etching by renowned cartoonist and comics scholar, Ivan Brunetti who was also kind enough to design the album package. So what does all of this mean? Ok, we will allow this final question. It means that Tomahawk is back! Rock and roll will be saved and destroyed. They plan to play live shows for the first time since 2003 and are willing to go anywhere as long as they can get a warm bed with cold pillows, a square meal and a boatload of cash.

Med sig har de deres seneste album Oddfellows. Efter næsten 10 års pause fra at spille liveshows er det amerikanske metal- og hardrock-band Tomahawk tilbage og klar til at blæse publikum omkuld. Super-kvartetten har angiveligt brugt pausen på at fundere over universets gåder, men de fandt også tid til at udgive deres fjerde album Oddfellows i januar. Langt fra normalen Albummet er blevet kaldt bandets mest tilgængelige og skrabede udgivelse til dato. Men set i lyset af, at de fire medlemmer tidligere har udgivet et album inspireret af indiansk musik og gerne dyrker alt, der er en smule anderledes, er Oddfellows ikke et ”normalt” hardrock eller metal album. 13 ubehagelige sange De 13 skæringer er fyldt med ubehageligheder, der gør det svært for lytteren at forudse, hvor de ender, som på den uafsluttede “Baby Let’s Play”, der peaker som soundtracket til en støvet gyser.
