For daily news and events, follow us on facebook at facebook.com/sandiegomesacollege Celebration on the Mesa Showcases 50 Years of Student Success More than 150 attendees showed up for the Oct. 3 for Celebration on the Mesa, a showcase of 50 years of student success. And showcase our students it did, with non-stop performances and entertainment by the Mesa College World Music Ensemble, Fashion Design Students, the Speech and Debate Team, the Mesa College Theater Company (performing fiery scenes from “Macbeth”), the Mesa College Vocal Ensemble, and the Mesa College Dance Company, which was joined by President Pam Luster for a surprise performance of “Little Latin Lupe Lu.” Heavy hor d’ouvres and tasty "mocktails" were served and prepared by Culinary Arts/Culinary Management students. The silent auction was a great success with stiff competition for more than 70 items. Topping of the evening was a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a historical video of Mesa’s 50 years. More than $15,000 was raised in support of student services and programs. You can find more photos here, and watch video tribute and dance performances on the college youtubechannel. Carl Luna Honored with National Award Hearty congratulations go to Dr. Carl Luna who received the prestigious “William H. Meardy Award” from the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Pacific Region on Oct. 23 in Chicago. Recognizing the importance of teaching and learning, this award was named for ACCT’s founding director, “who championed the concept of faculty excellence as the foundation of success in the community college movement.” Carl is an active member of the college faculty, having served as Academic Senate President, and chairs the Civility Committee on our campus. -

In 2019 he filmed the role of Kristophe in ABSENTIA for Amazon Studios, season two of Sky One’s BRASSIC (returning to his role as Gary Cullen), MISS SCARLET AND THE DUKE with Kate Philips for A+E Studios, the role of Ray Miller opposite Gemma-Leah Devereux in the feature DEAD HAPPY, and BLOODMOON directed by SJ Clarkson for HBO. Further recent credits include the feature adaptation of Caitlin Moran’s HOW TO BUILD A GIRL directed by Coky Giedroyc, COUNTERPART for Starz, and the part of Johann opposite Tanya Reynolds in the forthcoming BFI-backed feature UNDERGODS, directed by Chino Moya. Most recent stage credits include the role of Damus opposite Ruth Negga’s PORTIA COUGHLAN in a rehearsed reading of the play directed by Caroline Byrne for Kwame Kwei-Armah at the Young Vic, BALLYTURK written and directed by Enda Walsh, which ran at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York to excellent reviews, and BAD ROADS opposite Ria Zmitrowicz, which was directed by Vicky Featherstone at the Royal Court Theatre, London. FROM: AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE 890 Broadway New York, New York 10003 (212) 477-3030 Kelly Ryan BRADON McDONALD Bradon McDonald has had a diverse career in both the Performing Arts and Design fields. Upon graduating Juilliard in 1997, McDonald danced with the Limón Dance Company for three years, and with Mark Morris Dance Group for 10 years. He has served as choreographer for opera productions at Gotham Chamber Opera, WolftraP Opera Company, AsPen Music Festival, Berkshire Opera and the Juilliard Opera Center, as well as teaching dance to musicians at LA Opera, the Bolshoi Opera, Houston Grand Opera, the Royal Academy of Music and Tanglewood Music Festival. After retiring from the stage, McDonald began studying Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where he earned two degrees and the Fashion Design Award uPon graduation. McDonald is currently working as a freelance designer in high-end (custom Special Occasion/Bridal garments) and mass markets, as well as designing costumes for the Performing Arts. McDonald showed a collection at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week as a finalist on the Emmy Award winning Project Runway Season 12. McDonald has combined his performing arts roots with fashion design in many exciting projects. From the obvious dangers bravely faced by frontline staff to the financial and health worries experienced by so many. It has, however, also been a time of great community spirit and togetherness and Galway International Arts Festival wishes to play Contents its part in this.
