  • Acts 20:13-38 Outward Church: Passing the Baton Pastor Jonathan Romig Cornerstonewestford.Com I Know Some of Our Teens Do Track
May 23, 2021 Acts 20:13-38 Outward Church: Passing the Baton Pastor Jonathan Romig CornerstoneWestford.com I know some of our teens do track. I think that’s pretty cool. I never did it, but my brother Matthew did the long jump and ran hurdles, 110 and 300. I love watching the Olympics, which are supposed to happen this summer in Tokyo. There are all sorts of great events, especially the team-relay events. The 4x100 involves four sprinters, who each pass a baton to one another before sprinting to their next partner. Did you know that in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, in the 4x100, the women’s team dropped the baton? The teammates, English Gardner, Allyson Felix, Tianna Bartoletta, and Tori Bowie, were almost disqualified. Bartoletta started the race, smoothly handing the baton to Allyson Felix, who sprinted down the track. But when Felix tried handing it to English Gardner, she tripped and dropped the baton. All was lost. But then she picked up the baton and passed it off to Gardner, who passed it to Bowie, who finished the race. Allyson Felix realized that the runner from Brazil bumped into her, so they challenged the results. Rio was disqualified, and the USA women’s team was allowed to run again, this time on a completely empty track and field. Felix said it felt really weird, but they were able to qualify for the finals. Today, Paul is passing the baton to the elders at Ephesus. He’s on his way to Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit has told him that he is going to face hardship.

  • Indoor Track and Field DIVISION I WOMEN’S
Indoor Track and Field DIVISION I WOMEN’S Highlights Oregon rises up from being ranked fourth to claim fourth consecutive title: LSU head coach Dennis Shaver predicted that the team title at the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships would not be decided until the fi nal event, the 1,600-meter relay. And indeed, the top three teams entered that event separated by just seven points. However, it was neither Shaver’s top-ranked Lady Tigers nor the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks who fi nished on the winners’ podium. It was not third-ranked Arkansas, competing at home in the Randal Tyson Track Center. Instead, it was fourth-ranked Oregon, competing with a rebuilt roster, which claimed its fourth consecutive NCAA indoor title March 8 and 9. “I’m absolutely elated,” Oregon coach Robert Johnson said. “This one is probably sweeter than the others, even though they’re all sweet. This one right here, we really had to dig down deep and perform.” The Ducks claimed their only event title of the weekend when they needed it most, in the fi nal relay. However, three Oregon athletes had second-place fi nishes to help the team gain 56 points. Kansas was second with 44, followed by LSU with 43 and Arkansas with 42½. Going into the 1,600 relay, Oregon led Kansas by just three points and LSU by seven. “For us to come here and win is huge,” Johnson said. “We talked to the girls this morning about being champions of our fate.

  • Olympic Trials Proved to Be the One Unfortunate Stumbling Block of the Year
2016 Eugene – July 1 to July 10 The hosting of the Trials in Eugene three times in a row, for the second time, was unprecedented, and while the Trials saw no World Records on this occasion, they did produce a terrific series of marks and dramas. With live action in field events by NBC best described as minimal, US television did a typically poor job in covering what still remains as the best domestic track and field meeting in the world. The crowds and weather conditions were as follows: Attendance: July 1—20,987, July 2—21,866, July 3—22,424, July 4—21,713, July 7—21,835, July 8—22,256, July 9— 22,847, July 10—22,944 for a total of 176,972. (There was no admission charge for hammer day, July 6). Weather: July 1 to 6 —sunny, breezy, with highs of 85, 89, 82, 79 and 84; July 7-—cloudy, rain, highs of 77 and 72; July 9—windy, light rain, high 74; July 10—cloudy, rain, high of 68 100 meters – July 3, 17.53 Hr; wind +1.6 Reaction 1. 3.
