This rare Copenhagen appearance of his reunites him with his close friend and frequent collaborator, Denmark’s stellar pianist Niels Lan Doky. In 1959 Stan Getz became one of the first musicians to ever play the Montmartre in Store Regnegade. Getz had a life long association with Denmark and played with many Danish musicians over the years. One of today’s most prolific jazz artists, the great Swiss-American alto saxophonist George Robert, teams up with three of Denmark’s most legendary jazz veterans, for a spectacular and devoted celebration of one of the greatest saxophonists of all time. During the final chapters of Miles’ life and career, the supreme alto saxopho- nist Kenny Garrett was among the most exciting and popular of his band members. Following other collaborations, with people such as Pat Metheny, Marcus Miller and Chick Corea, Kenny Garrett today focuses mainly on his own projects. Jazzhus Montmartre is proud to present the inspiring and energetic Kenny Garrett with own group from the USA in a rare intimate club setting. Doors open for concert at 19.30 (7.30pm) WALTZ FOR DEBBY CELEBRATING MONICA ZETTERLUND & BILL EVANS GRAND RE-OPENING MONTMARTRE 2010 WALTZ FOR DEBBY Celebrating Monica Zetterlund & Bill Evans Sinne Eeg, vocals (Denmark), Lars Jansson, piano (Sweden), Jesper Lundgaard, bass (Denmark), May 25, Jesper Bodilsen, bass (Denmark), May 26 & 27, Morten Lund, drums (Denmark) In 1964 Swedish singer Monica Zetterlund and American pianist Bill Evans recorded their masterpiece album “Waltz For Debby”. Zetterlund must have sparked an unusual inspiration in Evans, as he hardly ever agreed to collaborate with other artists. Zetterlund has described the critically acclaimed album as her best ever and the one she was the most proud of. Join us for this three day celebration of our region’s most beloved jazz vocal role model and her ultimate album, featuring some of today’s most respected and exciting Scandinavian jazz artists.

We’d like to think that in a highly partisan modern world, we actually live up to the credo: “We New York@Night Report, You Decide”. No segment of jazz or improvised music or avant garde or 4 whatever you call it is overlooked, since only as a full quilt can we keep out the cold of commercialism. Interview: Cooper-Moore Sometimes it is more difficult, especially during the bleak winter months, to 6 by Kurt Gottschalk put together a good mixture of feature subjects but we quickly forget about that when June rolls around. It’s an embarrassment of riches, really, this first month of Artist Feature: Orrin Evans summer. Just like everyone pulls out shorts and skirts and sandals and flipflops, 7 by Terrell Holmes the city unleashes concert after concert, festival after festival. This month we have the Vision Fest; a mini-iteration of the Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT); the On The Cover: Dee Dee Bridgewater inaugural Blue Note Jazz Festival taking place at the titular club as well as other 9 by Marcia Hillman city venues; the always-overwhelming Undead Jazz Festival, this year expanded to four days, two boroughs and ten venues and the 4th annual Red Hook Jazz Encore: Lest We Forget: Festival in sight of the Statue of Liberty.

I'm 50 years old. I was born in 1960. I consider that young because we're almost the same age. Well that's very nice of you, even if though it's not true.

    Giant Danish Winter Jazz celebration to take place on 100 venues nationwide in February The 15th edition of the nationwide music festival 'Vinterjazz' takes place on February 6-22. The festival spans 17 days featuring more than 450 concerts, 100 venues and 25 independent organizers from all across Denmark - from Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense and Esbjerg to the historic jazz capital of Copenhagen. The combination of the festival’s length and the countrywide aspect makes Vinterjazz an opportunity to meet international stars on tour, new Danish award-winning projects and concert themes like Jazz for Kids, Future Sound of Jazz / Something Else, Jazz Remixed, Impressions of.. and Jazz’n ‘Poetry. FEBRUAR 2010 – Det internationalt berømte Jazzhus Montmartre, der satte Danmark på verdenskortet i næsten 30 år som magnet på verdens største jazznavne, genskabes nu på den originale adresse i St. Regnegade i København anført af jazzpianisten Niels Lan Doky og mediemanden og iværksætteren Rune Bech. Den 46-årige jazz-pianist Niels Lan Doky vender efter 29 års international karriere i Paris og New York tilbage til Danmark og udgiver samtidig en ny plade med titlen ”Return to Denmark”. - Det er en drøm, der går i opfyldelse, når vi genåbner Jazzhus Montmartre i maj. Stedet har altid stået som noget specielt for mig. Jeg er ydmyg og taknemmelig over at få chancen for at give denne legendariske institution et nyt indhold i en ny tid. Jazzen nyder stadig større udbredelse og vores ambition er at etablere en jazzklub i verdensklasse, med en kunstnerisk profil som ikke p.t. findes andre steder på kloden og som vil bidrage til at styrke Danmarks internationale renommé, siger Niels Lan Doky. Fra 1959 til 1976 udviklede Jazzhus Montmartre sig til et af verdens absolutte kraftcentre inden for jazzen i en sådan grad, at flere af de største navne flyttede til København, blandt andre Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster og Kenny Drew. De inspirerede og udviklede en hel generation af danske jazzmusikere i St. Regnegade, blandt andre Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Alex Riel og Palle Mikkelborg, der trådte deres musikalske barnesko i Montmartre.
