This event is being organised by the Japan Karate Shotorenmei Scotland.

Associations are reminded of their responsibility and the importance of insurance cover for all athletes and that coaches signing entry forms have confirmed and seen all registrations including insurance cover for all their competitors.

Important Note for Coaches

There will be a licence registration check on the day. It is the responsibility of all associations to ensure that athletes they enter all have INSURANCE cover and registration through their association. Any competitor not holding a current licence will not be allowed to compete.

All competitors can only compete in their own categories they cannot move up to compete in another category.

Coaches Dress Code

Coaches must be in Association tracksuits or colours etc. and must wear their coaching ID badge . Only coaches ADHEREING TO DRESS CODE and in possession of a coaches pass will be allowed on the competition area, these will be supplied at the event.

Coaches passes will be provided according to the number of entries from the association. All coaches must provide his/her details to the Chief Referee. Only 1 coach is permitted at the Tatami at any one time. Coach’s badges are not an entry pass to the venue they are for use on the area only.

Coaches please ensure your competitors leave the area when their category finishes, this is a strict rule.

There is no direct rail service from Glasgow International Airport and Edinburgh City Centre. The best transport option is to take the Airport Bus service 500 into the City then a train from Queen Street to Edinburgh. General Information There is no direct rail or bus links from Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Edinburgh City Centre during the day and early evening. The main method would be train from Prestwick Airport dedicated railway station to then change over to Glasgow Queen Street station (short 10minute walk).

Competition Rules Kata and Kumite

Kata

The Kata competition will be based on the Elimination System, whereby two competitors are called and perform the same Kata. The winner is decided based on the number of flags (Red or white) in his/her favour. The remaining eight competitors will be allowed to perform their Kata of Choice, while observing the rules below. The number of elimination rounds leading up to the Final Eight will vary based on the number of participants in the competition.

18 and Under:

Up to final 16: Elimination rounds will include Kata from Heian Nidan to Tekki Shodan. All 18 and under matches are decided in a one and a half minute / Ippon Shobu match. Final two minute / Sanbon Shobu match

Adults:

The adults matches are decided in a two minute / Ippon Shobu match until semi final.

The adult male semi final match is decided in a 2 minute / Sanbon Shobu (three Ippon) match. The adult male final match is decided in a 5 minute / Sanbon Shobu (three Ippon) match. The first to get two Ippon will be declared the winner.

The adult female semi final match is decided in a 2 minute / Sanbon Shobu (three Ippon) match. The adult female final match is decided in a 3 minute / Sanbon Shobu (three Ippon) match. The first to get two Ippon will be declared the winner.

Kumite Competitor's necessary gear:

- Karate Gi and Belt.

- Hand supporters. (white)

- Mouth piece. (only clear type can be worn)

- Sewing kit to be used for sewing the competitor's participation badge on the back of the Karate Gi.

-All children are requested to wear chest protection, failure to comply with this request will be the responsibility of the competitor and no claim can be made against the organisers in the event of an injury.

Adults & Children team events in Kata and Kumite are now officially part of the championship. Participation in Team Kata event is UK £50, and Team Kumite event is UK £50, per team. Please use the following application form to submit your entry. Unlimited teams are allowed.

From Qualification Rules Article 8. Standard of Status 1. The following standards must be satisfied in order to obtain instructor status: 1) D Class: those who have held 3rd DAN for more than 1 year. 2) C Class: those who have held 4th DAN for more than 1 year and have held D class instructor status and C class judge status previously. 3) B Class: those who have held 5th DAN for more than 1 year and have held C class instructor status and B class judge status previously. 4) A Class: those who have held 6th DAN for more than 1 year and have held B class instructor status and A class judge status previously. Article 11. Standard of Judge Status 1. The following standards must be satisfied in order to obtain judge status. 1) D class: those who have obtained 2nd DAN and finished a given course of lectures. 2) C class: those who have held D class judge status for more than 3 years. 3) B class: those who have held C class judge status for more than 5 years. 4) A class: those who have held B class judge status for more than 6 years. Article 14. Standard of Examiner Status 1. The following standards must be satisfied in order to obtain examiner status. 1) D class: Those with Jitsuryoku-dan (DAN obtained through an examination) of at least 3rd DAN and have held D class instructor status for more than 1 year. 2) C class: Those with Jitsuryoku-dan of at least 4th DAN with examiner status of D class and instructor status of at least C class. 3) B class: Those with a Jitsuryoku-dan of at least 6th DAN with examiner status of C class and instructor status of at least B class. 4) A class: Those with Jitsuryoku-dan of at least 7th DAN with examiner status of at least B class and instructor status of A class. Article 26. Transfer from Another Organization 1. Persons with qualifications transferring from other organizations should be treated as mentioned below. 1) The qualifications presented by transfer seekers will be examined by authorized examiners in order to approve the equivalent qualifications given the eligibility for admission under articles 8, 11, and 14. 2) Takers of the examination who meet the JKS requirements and standards, should pay the registration fees that should be sent together with a copy of their initial diplomas (certificate) to the JKS General Headquarters. 3) The JKS Headquarters will register the new membership card using the dates that appear on the initial diplomas (certificates). The time needed to qualify for the next examination should be counted accordingly.

From Examination Rules Article 27. Given below are the requirements for taking a DAN examination. 1st DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of more than 2 years and have a license of first KYU. 2nd DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of 1 year after obtaining 1st DAN. 3rd DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of 2 years after obtaining 2nd DAN. 4th DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of 3 years after obtaining 3rd DAN. 5th DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of 4 years after obtaining 4th DAN. 6th DAN: those who have finished an apprenticeship of more than 5 years after obtaining 5th DAN. 7th DAN: those who have held 6th DAN for over 7 years and are over 41 years old. 8th DAN: those who have held 7th DAN for over 7 years and are over 50 years old. 9th DAN: those who have held 8th DAN for over 8 years and are over 60 years old. 10th DAN: those who have held 9th DAN for over 9 years. Article 57. Persons with DAN transferring from other organizations should be treated as mentioned below. 1. The DAN grade presented by transfer seekers will be examined by authorized examiners in order to approve the equivalent DAN given the eligibility for admission under articles 27. 2. Takers of the examination who meet the JKS requirements and standards, should pay the registration fees that should be sent together with a copy of their initial diplomas (certificate) to the JKS General Headquarters. 3. The JKS Headquarters will register the new membership card using the dates that appear on the initial diplomas (certificates). The time needed to qualify for the next examination should be counted accordingly.
