Backgrounder
BACKGROUNDER Silversea is a luxury cruise company reflec3ng genera3ons of mari3me and travel experience. In the early 1990s, the Lefebvre family of Rome, former owners of Sitmar Cruises, conceived and organised a unique cruise company pledging to build and operate the highest quality ships in the ultra-luxury segment. The name "Silversea" was chosen because it connotes quality and luxury as well as capturing the romance and special sensa3ons of the sea. Silversea launched its first ship, Silver Cloud, in 1994, followed by Silver Wind in 1995, Silver Shadow in 2000, and Silver Whisper in 2001. The fleet was purpose-built for the ultra-luxury market, establishing a new class of smaller, in3mate vessels that could slip into more exo3c ports off the beaten path. These elite vessels were specifically designed for fewer guests, with more space and the highest levels of personalised service, delivered by mainly Italian and other European officers overseeing an interna3onal staff. In December 2009 Silversea took delivery of its next genera3on of ultra-luxury vessel, Silver Spirit. At 36,000 grosse tonnes (gr)t, and accommoda3ng just 540 guests, this in3mate ship has spacious suites— with 95% featuring a private veranda—and one of the highest space-to-guest ra3os at sea today. The onboard decor lends a sophis3cated 1930s Art Deco ambience to the public spaces, highlights of which include an indoor/outdoor spa measuring over 8,300 square feet (770 square metres), a resort-style pool, four whirlpools, and a choice of six dining venues including Seishin, showcasing Asian-fusion cuisine, and the innova3ve Stars Supper Club, offering trendseng menus and all-night entertainment. -

Cruise Tourism and Sea Ice in Canada's Hudson Bay Region
ARCTIC VOL. 63, NO. 1 (MARCH 2010) P. 57–66 Cruise Tourism and Sea Ice in Canada’s Hudson Bay Region E.J. SteWArt,1 A. TIVY,2 S.E.L. HOWell,3 J. DAWSON4 and D. DRAPer5 (Received 26 March 2009; accepted in revised form 15 July 2009) ABSTRACT. Tourism in the Hudson Bay region of central northern Canada generally is associated with non-consumptive forms of nature-based activities (such as polar bear viewing). However, the region has experienced variable growth in the cruise sector in recent years. This paper examines patterns of cruise activity in all subregions of the Hudson Bay region during three cruise seasons (2006, 2008, and 2009) and mainly reveals a pattern of decline. Since the prevalence of sea ice is an important part of visitor experiences of polar cruises, we examine sea ice change and occurrence of icebergs in the Hudson Bay region. Our sea ice analysis suggests that the length of the navigable shipping season is increasing in this region, which may facilitate both earlier and later shipping. But in terms of cruise traffic, we suggest that the demise of ice coverage signals a possible decline in cruise activity in most of the Hudson Bay region because ice-supported wildlife may shift north with the diminishing ice regime. Given the possible environmental and socio-cultural implications of changing cruise activity patterns in the Arctic and the absence of broad-scale monitoring and surveillance of the industry, use of these available data sources is vital to building a clearer picture. Key words: Canadian Arctic, Hudson Bay region, sea ice, tourism, polar tourism, cruise tourism RÉSUMÉ. -

Cambiaso & Risso and Silversea Cruises Reach Port Services
Agenzia Marittima CAMBIASO & RISSO Srl Corso Andrea Podestà 1 – 16128 Genoa (Ge) - Italy Ph: +39 010 57101 - Fax: +39 010 589359 Email: [email protected] Web Sites: www.cambiasorissoagency.com - www.cambiasorissotours.com VAT Number: 00435270103 MIAMI 16.03.2015 Cambiaso & Risso and Silversea Cruises reach port services & logistics agreement The quick expansion of the Montecarlo based Cambiaso & Risso group in the global logistic market has led to an appointment by Silversea as port and logistics partner. The cruise ships involved with the agreement are 5 out of the 8 luxury cruise vessels that are part of Silversea’s fleet: Silver Cloud, Silver Shadow, Silver Spirit, Silver Wind and Silver Whisper. “The agreement will allow us to offer our primary Client a 360° degree service including: services arrangements, berth reservations for planned changes or itineraries, quotations and proformas requests, DAs formats, direct negotiations on site with Vendors, tenders on specific services, etc…” specifies Giovanni Paolo Risso Ceo of the Italian shipping services and tour operator provider. In ports where it has its own branch offices, C&R will take direct care of the activity; while in other ports called upon by Silversea’s vessels, C&R will act as a supervisor of the local subagent designated by Silversea. This is an innovative approach between the relation within a cruise line and a port agent. “The agreement does not foresees the birth of a joint venture or any specific newco, but however it can be considered the first such type in the cruise sector”, claims C&R. “We have established a common teamwork with staff from the two companies who will work in full synergy on a continuous basis”. -
Statewide Cruise Perspective
Florida’s Cruise Industry Statewide Perspective Executive Summary Florida has long held the distinction of being the number one U.S. cruise state, home to the top three cruise ports in the world — PortMiami, Port Everglades and Port Canaveral. However, Florida is in danger of losing this economically favorable status, with potential redeployment of the increasingly large floating assets of the cruise industry to other markets. Great future opportunity clearly exists, as the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) continues to cite the cruise industry as the fastest-growing segment of the travel industry and notes that because only approximately 24 percent of U.S. adults have ever Cruise ships at PortMiami taken a cruise vacation, there remains an enormous untapped market.
