  • Fine Whiskey & Barrel-Aged Beer Night
Fine Whiskey & Barrel-Aged Beer Night Featuring whiskey from Buffalo Trace, Compass Box Oak Whisky Company and rare Pappy Van Winkle-aged Bourbon Street Baltic Porter from Abita Brewing Company Tuman’s Tap & Grill is pleased to host Eric Mersch, Wirtz Beverage Craft Spirits Specialist, for a special whiskey night on Wednesday, July 1. Mersch leads discussion and provides education on Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon, both from Buffalo Trace Distillery, a historic Kentucky distillery that has been producing spirits for over 200 years. Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whiskey, from the Sazerac Company/Buffalo Trace will also be featured, as will Oak Cross Blended Malt Scotch from Compass Box Oak Whisky Company. Attendees will be able to try the rare Bourbon Street Baltic Porter, a limited Abita Brewing Company Select Series beer which is brewed with pale, caramel and roasted malts, fermented at cooler temperatures to accentuate the malts, and cold aged. The tasting event begins at 7 p.m. and includes four whiskeys and one beer (five pours), and is $45 per person, excluding gratuity. • The Orkney Hotel Whisky Menu
THE ORKNEY HOTEL WHISKY MENU ORKNEY MALTS Orkney’s rugged and windswept character has shaped some of Scotland’s most distinct and warming malt whiskies. Highland Park 12yr (40%) From Scotland’s northernmost distillery comes a full flavoured Malt. With a nose of malt, sherry and peat, a palate of smoke, heather and other earthy elements. Highland Park 15yr (43%) Highland Park 15 has a remarkable complex nose with notes of camphor, peat and citrus fruits and flowers. The drying sensation on the finish leaves a rich smoky feeling and the immediate desire to refill your glass. Highland Park 18yr (43%) Burnished gold in colour with a rich, mature oak and aromatic smoke aroma. It has a rich, full flavour, honey and peat taste and a soft, round and long finish. Highland Park 21yr (47.5%) Drawing its incredible character from predominantly American oak casks which have been seasoned with sherry, this 21 year old is a truly dynamic whisky with an intensely fruity and spicy centre, surrounded by complex layers of candied orange peel, dark chocolate and rich, slightly drier smoke. A malt that rewards patience and delivers experience like no other. Highland Park 25yr (50.7%) With its golden dark red colour and very rich, mature oak, chocolate fudge aroma, this whisky is universally acclaimed, by the critics as one of the great single malts. It has a full, rich burst of flavours, soft honey and nutty toffee and a long and surprisingly sweet finish for its age. Highland Park 30yr (48.1%) 30 years ago after deciding to lay down the casks that would go on to become the heart of this exceptional whisky and over these 3 decades, the whisky maturing inside them has developed an outstanding balance, with a seductive sweetness and extremely delicate smoke.

  • The Ranking of the World's Million-Case Spirits Brands 2019
THE RANKING OF THE WORLD’S MILLION-CASE SPIRITS BRANDS 2019 001 Cover DI MILLIONAIRES 2019 FINAL.indd 1 04/06/2019 14:58 The millionaires’ JUNE 2019 DRINKSINT.COM 3 COMMENT The volume game Regardless of Trump’s tariff wars, Brexit and other socio-economic issues, the spirits industry is thriving. And once again The Millionaires’ Club bears witness to the movements of million-case spirits brands all over the globe. Ninety-two of the 153 millionaire brands listed in the 2019 supplement demonstrate an increase in volumes, so the industry shows no signs of slowing down. The biggest volume players are always from Asia due to the huge populations and brand loyalty in major markets, with soju’s Jinro now boasting 87m cases. But it’s also been fascinating to see Diageo’s Indian brandy Men’s Club virtually double in growth despite it showing decline over the previous four years. Looking at Europe, Martell has had a great year. A huge 18% growth shows how cognac is returning to its former glory in terms of international sales and the same can almost be said for vodka in the US as it appears the market is no longer in free-fall, with many of the big players returning to growth. It’s possible that volume sales will dwindle in importance as future generations of consumers continue to drink less but better – quality over quantity. The assets may shrink and the players may change, but this game of volumes isn’t going to end any time soon.
