Vision 20/20

“A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good...for from the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Lk. 6:45)

Your Vision 20/20 Team attended a Vision 20/20: From Pentecost to Pentecost Convocation in June. We went there not knowing exactly what Vision 20/20 was. We went to learn what Bishop Zinkula had in mind for us as a team and us as a church. We were able to hear some dynamic speakers, participate in moving prayer services, hear some exceptional music ministry, and engage in conversations with our own team and others. We came away with a clearer picture of what Pope Francis and Bishop Zinkula want from VISION 20/20 Team: JoAnne Price, Lucy & Robin Lilienthal, all of us in the way of evangelization. Fr. Reynolds, Kathy Hammerly, Tim Stammeyer, Luke Gregory and William Muckler, not pictured. The team would like to give you an opportunity to experience some of what we were exposed to. We chose 5 sessions that we will offer for view- ing. We will gather in McCann Center on the following Mondays, view a session and then have some time for conversation. You may attend one or all 5 sessions; each can stand alone but they do build on each other. We will provide links if you are unable to make a session. There is no need to feel any further obligation but we hope that by attending you will experience the same spiritual development and understanding of evangelization that we did.

Jesus’ words mean that we cannot be halfhearted in our love for God or neighbors— even if our neighbor is an enemy. The very nature of love is to put others first, and that first “other” is God himself. A Vatican painting by Pinturicchio shows a well-dressed St. Anthony, head of a large monastery, meeting in the desert with St. Paul, a poor hermit who lived off the land. Both represented two ways of totally responding to God’s call—one as a religious monk living in a thriving community and another as a hermit, living separated from the world as testimony to what really matters. Religious brothers and sisters living by the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience—as monks, hermits, or other forms of consecrated life—testify to the world that this radical, loving God is first above all things.
