Prof. Dr. H. PRIESNER A REVIEW OF THE ANTHOPHORA-SPECIES OF EGYPT [Hymenoptera : Apidae] A HEVIEW OF THE ANTHOPHORA-SPECIES OF EGYPT (Hymenoptera : Apidae] by Prof. Dr. H. PRIESNER INTRODUCTION Owing to the difficulties I encountered in trying to identify the Egyptian material of Anthophora in the collections of the Cairo and Ain Shams Universities, I had to penetrate more deeply into this matter, especially when I found that quite a number of species of the local collections were no doubt incorrectly named. With the progress of science, in our particular case with the improvements achieved by finding new distinctive characters and especially in the better relative evaluation of those already known, gained by experience and eye training, there lies upon us the bitter task to criticise and correct our late authorities on this subject who actually did all the spade work that enabled us to start on a considerable higher level of knowledge than that having been at their disposal. Apart from the relatively excellent work of KLUG (1845) and a number of species described by SPINOLA and - much later - GRIBODO, most of the taxonomic work on Anthophora of this country was done by H. FRIESE and A. ALFKEN, their work having been mainly based upon the Apid collections of our late A. ANDRES, while my late friend ALFKEN had also examined specimens he received from the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. A. ALFIERI and the author. ALFKEN had, obviously with the intention of avoiding the creation of synonyms, identified a number of Egyptian species with such of Asiatic origin. -

The Official Gazette Issue no. 51 (bis.) on December 21st 2014 Page (2) Decree-Law of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt no. 202/2014 Concerning Electoral Districting for the Elections of the House of Representatives The President of the Republic Having perused: the Constitution; Decree-Law no. 45/2014 on the regulation of the Exercise of Political Rights; Decree-Law no. 46/2014 on the House of Representatives; Upon consulting the High Elections Committee; Upon the approval of the Council of Ministers; and On the basis of the opinion of the Council of State; Decided on the following Law: Article 1 The provisions of the attached law shall apply with regard to the first elections for the House of Representatives that is held after its entry into force and any related by-elections. Any provision contradicting the provisions of the attached law is hereby abolished. Article 2 The Arab Republic of Egypt shall be divided into 237 electoral districts (constituencies) under the Individual-Seat system, and 4 constituencies under the lists system. Article 3 The scope and units of each constituency and the number of seats allocated thereto, and to each Governorate, shall be pursuant to the attached tables, in a manner which observes the fair representation of the population and Governorates and the equitable representation of voters. Article 4 This decree-law and the tables attached thereto shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall enter into force as of the day following its date of publication. Egypt 2015 International Religious Freedom Report
EGYPT 2015 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary The constitution describes freedom of belief as “absolute” but only provides adherents of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism the right to practice their religion freely and to build houses of worship. The government does not recognize conversion from Islam by citizens born Muslim to any other religion and imposes legal penalties on Muslim-born citizens who convert. While there is no legal ban on efforts to proselytize Muslims, the government uses the penal code’s prohibition of “denigrating religions” to prosecute those who proselytize publicly, often adopting an overly expansive interpretation of denigration, according to human rights groups. The constitution specifies Islam as the state religion and the principles of sharia as the primary source of legislation. It requires parliament to pass a law on the construction and renovation of Christian churches and provides for the establishment of an antidiscrimination commission, both of which had yet to be completed by year’s end. The government failed to respond to or prevent sectarian violence in some cases, in particular outside of major cities, according to rights advocates. Government officials frequently participated in informal “reconciliation sessions” to address incidents of sectarian violence and tension, saying such sessions prevented further violence. Such sessions, however, regularly led to outcomes unfavorable to minority parties, and precluded recourse to the judicial system in most cases, according to human rights groups. Some religious minorities reported an increase in harassment by government entities as compared with last year. Some government entities used anti-Shia, anti-Bahai, and anti- atheist rhetoric, and the government regularly failed to condemn anti-Semitic commentary.
