Maria Amador graduou-se em Engenharia Florestal pela Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE) em 1986, mestra em Geografia pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) em 1994, especialização em Silvicultura pela UFRPE em 1995 e, doutorado em Geografia pela UFPE em 2008; também realizou pela UFPE seu Pós- Doutorado em Geografia na Linha de Pesquisa Ecossistemas e Impactos Ambientais, concluído em 2011. Lecionou na Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco e, desde junho de 1999, era professora na Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Campus Garanhuns. Publicou inúmeros trabalhos entre artigos em periódicos científicos, ensaios, organização e capítulos de livros. Além da docência, desempenhou a liderança do Grupo de Estudos Sistêmicos do SemiArido do Nordeste (GESSANE) e, destacou-se como pesquisadora do Grupo de Estudos do Quaternário do Nordeste Brasileiro (GEQUA), vinculado a Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Na Simbiótica, a professora integrava nosso Conselho Editorial desde dezembro de 2015. Suas áreas e temas de interesse priorizaram a geografia com abordagem sistêmica e interdisciplinar, sustentabilidade, agroecologia, geomorfologia, biogeografia e a educação ambiental. Acumulou também experiências em estudos e pesquisas sobre a algarobeira no Nordeste do Brasil. Foi membro colaboradora da Associação Amigos da Natureza (ANAP) registrando, nesta instituição, a representação da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Campus Garanhuns, em seus eventos científicos e participando como revisora e parecerista. Foi uma pesquisadora habilidosa e competente, que soube valorizar em sua trajetória acadêmica tanto a importância científica quanto as implicações éticas fundamentadas no pensamento complexo. Tornou-se, assim, um exemplo aos seus familiares, aos seus alunos(as) e orientandos, como também aos seus colegas docentes na mesma instituição. Deixou um legado profissional e humano de responsabilidade, amor e dedicação em tudo que realizou, adquirindo a admiração de praticamente todos que com ela conviveu. Faleceu no dia 13 de junho de 2018 após se submeter a uma cirurgia cardíaca e não resistir, no Hospital Jayme da Fonte, em Recife - Pernambuco. In a mediascape where technology permeates bodies, the current discourse of viral information insinuates elements of fear and risk associated with both physical presence and computer usage. This article adopts a socio-historical approach to investigate the factors underlying the early emer- gence of such features of our social imaginary by tracking them back to the computer culture of the 1980s. Analysing both mainstream and underground press sources from 1982 to 1991, a discursive core is revealed that revolves around the ‘computer virus’ metaphor. Popularized in this period, this notion came to resonate with mounting moral panic over the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

    14/10/2018 Two complexities – Emergence: Complexity and Organization Two complexities The need to link complex thinking and complex adaptive systems science March 31, 2015 · Philosophy Author Alvaro Malaina Abstract This article reects the division in the eld of the study of complexity, between a mainly philosophical and epistemological approach (Edgar Morin called it “general complexity”) and a mainly scientic and methodological approach (called by Morin as “restricted complexity”). The rst perspective would be well represented by Morin’s “complex thinking,” while the second by the new “science of complex adaptive systems.” We show the potential and limits of each perspective, and conclude by claiming the need to relink both the perspectives into a comprehensive “paradigm of complexity” that is capable of providing, and following the original denition of Thomas Kuhn, at the same time a worldview (“general complexity”) and examples of scientic achievements (“restricted complexity”). Introduction According to Edgar Morin 21, we can distinguish between the two approaches to the phenomenon of complexity: “general complexity” and “restricted complexity.” On the one hand, a “general complexity,” is a fundamentally epistemological approach developed by scientists and philosophers such as Edgar Morin, Ilya Prigogine, Heinz von Foerster, Humberto Maturana, Francisco Varela, among others. It was developed primarily between the 70s and 80s from new disciplines such as cybernetics, systems theory, dissipative structures theory, catastrophe theory or autopoiesis theory. Morin’s complex thinking would be one of its best syntheses. On the other hand, a “restricted complexity,” is a primarily methodological approach developed by scientists such as Murray Gell-Mann, John Holland, Stephen Wolfram, Stuart Kauman, and Robert Axelrod since the creation in 1984 of the Santa Fe Institute in the United States and the improvement and sophistication of computational technologies.
