MRKVICKA Zusammenfassung: Die systematische Stellung der Gattung Epipactis in der Subtribus Cephalantherinae wie auch die Stel- lung dieser Subtribus innerhalb der Unterfamilie Neottioideae wird an Beispielen enhvickungsgeschicht- licher Untersuchungen diskutiert. Nach den neuesten molekularen Daten, die aus DNA-Sequenzanalysen gewonnen wurden, ist ein Stammbaum erstellt worden, in dem die Neottioideae in die "epidendroids" eingereiht wurden. Das steht im Widerspruch zu dem in unserer Arbeit praktizierten Klassifikations- System, das in "Die Orcliideen" R. SCHLECHTER in der Bearbeitung von F. BMEGER und K. SENGHAS venvendet wird. Die Ableitung einer Orchideenblüte aus dem Liliiflorae-Erbe ermögliclit eine Differentialdiagnose zwi- schen den Orchidaceae und den Apostasiaceae. Die Apostasiaceae, die viele Autoren als Unterfamilie Apostasioideae zu den Orchidaceae stellen, werden durch vergleichende Blütenanalysen von dieser Familie abgetrennt. Der Entwickiungstendenz des Gynoeceums der Orchideen, durch die es zum Auf- bau eines Rostellums mit seinen Organen kommt, steht die Reduktionstendenz des Gynoeceums der Apostasiaceae, durch die es zu einer Verminderung des ursprünglich trimeren Stigmas kommt, gegen- über. Chyliza vittata is known to utilize leaves, stems and underground parts of several leafy and leafl ess orchids. Compared to the well-recorded feeding habits of C. vittata in Europe, its feeding habits in Japan are poorly studied. Thus, further records of its host plants and the habits of its larvae in Japan are likely to reveal the similarities and differences in its feeding habits in Europe and Japan. The current study reports C. vittata feeding on the stems of the mycoheterotrophic orchid Yoania japonica in central Japan. This study also showed that in spite of the small size of Yoania its reproductive success is not severely reduced when infested with C. vittata, whereas the robust stems of Gastrodia elata, which is its main host plant in Japan, are thought to be a defence against infestation by C. vittata. Calypsoeae represent a small tribe of anatomically little-known orchids with a wide distribution in the Western Hemisphere. Leaves are present in all genera, except Corallorhiza and Wullschlaegelia both of which are subterranean taxa. Stomata are abaxial (ad- and abaxial in Aplectrum) and tetracytic (anomocytic in Calypso). Fiber bundles are absent in leaves of all taxa examined except Govenia tingens. Stegmata are present in leaves of only Cremastra and Govenia. Roots are velamentous, except in filiform roots of Wullschlaegelia. Vegetative anatomy supports a relationship between Wullschlaegelia and Corallorhiza but does not support the grouping of winter-leaved Aplectrum and Tipularia nor proposed groupings of genera based on pollinarium features. -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new species, Gastrodia kuroshimensis (Orchidaceae: Epidendroideae: Gastrodieae), from Kuroshima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, is described and illustrated. The outlined floral morphology indicates a close affinity to G. fontinalis, but it is easily distinguished by several characteristics, such as the cleistogamous floral condition, smaller perianth tube size and the anther cap joined with the column. Key words: Gastrodia, Japan, mycoheterotrophy, Ryukyu Islands, taxonomy Introduction The genus Gastrodia Brown (1810: 330; Gastrodieae, Epidendroideae) is a group of mycoheterotrophic orchids that consists of ca. 90 acceptable species (Hsu et al. 2016). It is distributed throughout the temperate and tropical regions of Asia, Oceania, Madagascar and Africa (Chung & Hsu 2006, Cribb et al. 2010, Tan et al. 2012). The genus is characterized by fleshy tubers, the absence of leaves, as well as the union of its sepals and petals, and the production of two mealy pollinia that lack caudicles. Many species of Gastrodia section Codonanthus (Schlechter 1911, Tuyama 1967) produce inflorescences that are 3–15 cm in length at flowering (Chung & Hsu 2006). The plant was first identified as Zeuxine sakagutii Tuyama on the basis of morphological and macromolecular characters. No nucleotide sequence divergences in the nuclear ribosomal DNA ITS and the two plastid regions (matK and trnL-F intron) were found between the Ogasawara plant and Z. sakagutii samples from the Ryukyu Islands and Hainan Island, China. This result indicates a recent, long distance dispersal of this species to Ogasawara. Z. boninensis Tuyama, described from Ogasawara, was considered to be extinct. The wide diversity of orchids has attracted the interest of evolutionary biologists. In this study, a new orchid was discovered on Danxia Mountain in Guangdong, China. However, the phylogenetic clarification of this new orchid requires further molecular, morphological, and phytogeographic analyses. Methodology/Principal Findings: A new orchid possesses a labellum with a large Y-shaped callus and two sacs at the base, and cylindrical, fleshy seeds, which make it distinct from all known orchid genera. -

In orchids, most species show bitegmic ovules, except for some mycoheterotrophic species that show ovules with only one integument. Analysis of ovules and the development of the seed coat provide important information regarding functional aspects such as dispersal and seed germination. This study aimed to analyze the origin and development of the seed coat of the mycoheterotrophic orchid Pogoniopsis schenckii and to compare this development with that of other photosynthetic species of the family. Most will be lists providing NZTCS status of members of a plant or animal group (e.g. algae, birds, spiders). There are currently 23 groups, each assessed once every 3 years. After each 3-year cycle there will be a report analysing and summarising trends across all groups for that listing cycle. From time to time the manual that defines the categories, criteria and process for the NZTCS will be reviewed. The new species can be easily distinguished from D. singchiana by its much smaller flowers and larger Y-shaped callus adaxially bearing a additional obovoid appendage, and by its four pollinia narrowly elliptic in shape and equal in size. The article continues serial publication of illustrated critical taxonomical survey of orchids in the flora of Vietnam. This part of the monograph includes taxonomical treatment of so-called primitive tribes (Neottieae, Vanilleae, Gastrodieae, Nervilieae) of the largest subfamily Epidendroideae (17 genera and 41 species in Vietnam); besides, some corrections and additions to first and second parts of the monograph are included. Identification keys, valid name, necessary synonyms, type material citation, short description, data on ecology and distribution, as well as a list of studied voucher specimens for each species are provided. Mentioned species are illustrated with original line drawings and color photographs. Two new nomenclature combinations are proposed, namely Cyrtosia faberi (Rolfe) Aver., and C. falconeri (Hook. f.) Aver. A new genus Miguelia Aver. with 2 species – M. somai (Hayata) Aver. and M. annamica (Gagnep.) Aver. is established. Description of a new species – Peristylus tenuicallus Ormerod. discovered by P. Ormerod on the base of his studies of AMES Herbarium is also presented.
