Crystallizing a Discourse of "Khalijiness": Exclusion and Citizenship in the Arab Gulf States Abstract For many of the Arab Gulf countries, non-national populations constitute the majority of the population, with the discrepancy between the size of the national and non-national populations continuing to grow. It is in this context that the role played by these non-national populations becomes critically important. In my paper, I argue that exclusion of non-national populations from state-sponsored national identities, as manifest through citizenship rights, plays a pivotal role in fostering imagined national identities and communities among the local Arab Gulf citizens. The study considers two cases in particular: the bidoon (stateless) of Kuwait and middle-class Indian migrants in Dubai. -

Received: July 2014 Accepted: November 2014 Abstract The Persian Gulf is northern part of the ROPME Sea Area (RSA), and is semi-enclosed shallow sea which located in subtropical climate. Measuring is 1000km in length, varying in width 60-340km, and average depth is about 35m and maximum depth is 105m. This research was carried out during 2005-2010 for reviewing the corals status and determination of coral reef habitats distribution in the Persian Gulf. Coral reef sites and patches were determined by field surveys and direct observations. Also, the violet-blue bands of Land Sat satellite images were used for seaward extent of coral reefs. Sampling sites covered by SCUBA, Manta Tow technique and Transect survey base on Reef Check and GCRMN standard method. Coral reefs habitats in Iranian coastal areas are found in two types and structures which observed around seventeen islands fringing coral reefs and two limited patches of coral reefs around Nayband Bay. Widest coral reef cover observed around Khark, Kharko and Larak Islands. Due to extremes of water temperature and salinity that are close to the physiological tolerance limits ,coral reefs diversity and coral species composition in this area is similar and close to Indo-Pacific eco-region coral communities. In comparison, species richness of hard corals in the Gulf of Oman; with about 70 species is more than the entire Persian Gulf. -

All rights reserved. Abstract Foraminifera are one of the most important fossil microorganisms in the Persian Gulf. During micropaleontological investigations in 5 sampling stations around the Kish Island, 14 genera and 15 species of dead Cenozoic benthic foraminifera were determined and described. Next to these assemblages, other organisms, such as microgastropods and spines of echinids were also looked into. In this study, the statistical analysis of foraminiferal distribution was done in one depth-zone (60-150 m and compared with the Australian-Iran Jaya Continental margin depth- zone. Department of Geology, Faculty of basic science, Shahid Bahonar University, Kerman, Iran Received 4 February 2008; accepted: 8 September 2009 Abstract The most enigmatic problems with the nearly 200 salt domes pierced in the Persian Gulf and in the Zagros Mountain Ranges (ZMR) in southern Iran, a unique morphology in the world, have been the matter of this study, which is based on a combination of field work, enhancement of satellite and aerial photographs etc. In the ZMR, structural anomalies are frequently associated with similar facies distribution patterns. In the eastern portion of the region, emergent salt plugs of Infra-Cambrian age exhibit the same alignment patterns. Such trends bear no apparent genetic relationship to the Tertiary folding responsible for the present Zagros fold belt, but rather indicate their affinity with linear basement features which are readily observable on Land sat imagery and aerial photographs. Bending of anticlines in the competent cover rock, combined with minor strike-slip faults and horizontal displacements of parts of folded structures, strongly point to the presence of these basement faults. -
