Extracte /Extracto/Abstract Viatge al món de les flautes és un material didàctic dirigit a grups de nivell elemental de l’aula de flauta travessera que planteja una introducció a les músiques tradicionals d’arreu del món. Alhora conté una proposta de concert familiar. Els objectius generals del present treball són donar a conèixer la gran família de les flautes juntament amb el seu repertori i fer una recerca pedagògica a l’entorn d’aquest per aplicar-lo a l’aula. La metodologia ha partit d'un treball de camp sobre diverses flautes d’arreu del món, en base al qual s'ha elaborat el concert i diverses propostes didàctiques per treballar a l’aula. Aquest projecte pretén aportar un ventall de noves eines per utilitzar en la docència. Viatge al món de les flautes (Viaje al mundo de las flautas) es un material didáctico dirigido a grupos de nivel elemental del aula de flauta travesera que plantea una introducción a las músicas tradicionales del mundo. A su vez contiene una propuesta de concierto familiar. Los objetivos generales del presente trabajo son dar a conocer la gran familia de las flautas junto con su repertorio y hacer un estudio pedagógico alrededor del mismo para aplicarlo en el aula. La metodología ha partido de un trabajo de campo sobre distintas flautas del mundo, en base al cual se ha elaborado el concierto y diversas propuestas didácticas para trabajar en el aula. Este proyecto pretende aportar un abanico de nuevas herramientas para utilizar en la docencia. Viatge al món de les flautes (A trip through the world of flutes) is a didactic work addressed to beginning flute students that includes an introduction to traditional music worldwide as well as a family concert activity. Overall purpose of the study is to get familiar with the large family of flutes and its repertoire, and to conduct pedagogical research about it that can be applied in class. The methodological approach started with field work on several flutes from all around the world serving as a basis to develop the family concert and establish different didactic classroom activities, which results in a range of new ways of teaching. Introducció El projecte final Viatge al món de les flautes sorgeix de la necessitat i interès per formar-me en un àmbit fins ara desconegut per a mi: les músiques del món. Aquesta temàtica m’enriquia donant-me una formació en un nou camp i alhora m’oferia un gran ventall de possibilitats educatives molt interessants per treballar en la formació integral de l’alumnat de música actual. Aquest treball vol aportar un gra de sorra en el materials de treball per a professors i obrir noves possibilitats i enfocaments de treball dins la classe de flauta travessera en grup d’alumnes de nivell elemental. D’aquesta manera es vol ajudar en la formació continuada del professorat, fet que es considera essencial per a realitzar una tasca pedagògica de qualitat. El treball s’estructura en dos grans blocs: el primer (l’aplicació, material de suport per a la classe de flauta en grup) que està format pel que seria la part més important del treball on es fa una descripció del projecte (què és, a qui es dirigeix, els objectius i continguts generals, la metodologia i la justificació) i on s’inclouen els materials elaborats a partir de la recerca realitzada: informació sobre les músiques del món i els seus respectius instruments, el material de suport dirigit a professors on s’inclouen les propostes didàctiques i els arranjaments per a quartet de flautes, l’avaluació de les activitats, un taller per elaborar una flauta de Pan, propostes per fer concerts amb els alumnes, enllaços de vídeo i un CD amb el so de les diferents flautes com a material útil per l’aula, i el segon (el concert) on s’explica el disseny d’un concert familiar. Totes les activitats proposades han estat posades en pràctica amb un grup de quatre alumnes de nivell elemental, en l’apartat de l’annex (Experiència de l’aplicació a l’aula: diari) es pot consultar l’experiència de cada sessió. El concert familiar dissenyat també es realitzarà davant del públic. Dissenyar aquest concert m’ha enriquit molt durant aquest curs: m’ha permès iniciar-me en la realització d’arranjaments, selecció de repertori, elaboració d’un guió, aprenentatge de nous instruments, escenografia, etc. Espero compartir el que he après fent aquest projecte amb tothom que vulgui tenir noves eines per a la classe de flauta travessera. 1 2 2. Les activitats proposades han estat pensades per a aplicar-les en el marc de les classes col·lectives d’instrument i dirigides a alumnes amb un nivell de 2n o 3r de grau d’elemental. The focus of this research is on acoustic and electro-acoustic devices only, sound sources involving oscillators, synthesis and sampling, be it analogue or digital, have therefore been excluded. Also, even though occasional reference will be made to historical and ‘ethnical’ instruments, they will not be treated as a core issue, the attention being primarily centered on contemporary creations.     12/29/06 I first became acquainted with the artistry and innovation of Swiss flutist, Matthias Ziegler when I listened to his submitted tape recording of Marsyas' Song. I was program chair for the 1992 Los Angeles convention. I listened to this tape and could not believe my ears. It was like nothing I had ever heard before. I knew at once that I must invite Matthias Ziegler to give his first NFA performance at the convention in Los Angeles. He is now a well-known artist in this country, having performed on numerous tours and at many conventions since that date. I was therefore thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Matthias to the Ohio State University to play a concert and a master class for my students. His music making, his instruments, his compositions, his personality and his teaching style blew my students away. So was I!! Later, Victoria Jicha asked me to interview Mr. Ziegler while he was in Columbus. We talked for hours. Here are excerpts from that interview. Matthias Ziegler Interview Family Where did you grow up? I grew up in Zurich, Switzerland where I still live close-by in a village by the lake with my family, my wife and two kids. Samuel my son is eight, he plays the cello. My daughter, Anahita she is six and she plays the violin. Samuel is a name that has been in my family quite frequently. My wife's family is from Tehran so we have some relation to this culture. Anahita is actually an old, Iranian name, the goddess of water.

    Collaboration in practice: developing a repertoire of extended techniques for the Kingma System alto and bass flute Carla REES submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) awarded by the Royal College of Music November 2014 Abstract This doctoral research explores the benefits of the Kingma System as applied to the alto and bass flute. It demonstrates each instrument’s potential for the use of extended techniques and the way in which these techniques are applied to the repertoire. The research takes places within the context of my own personal practice as a recitalist and chamber musician, and is represented through recordings of a selection of the repertoire and a website for each instrument, as well as a written commentary. The discussion of repertoire focuses on case studies selected from over 75 works composed for me using these Kingma System instruments. These case studies are presented through recordings, as well as in a detailed discussion of the use of specific aspects of the instruments’ capabilities, including multiphonics, microtonality, alternate fingerings, tone colour, articulation and other extended techniques. The approaches of different composers regarding the notation of these techniques within the repertoire are also explored, and the practical information arising from these case studies is presented as a reference guide for composers and performers in website form. These websites can be found at www.altoflute.co.uk and www.bassflute.co.uk, and include multimedia demonstrations, fingering charts and notational examples.
