Montenegro Montenegro is a small, but extremely attractive Mediterranean country. It is located in the south of Europe, on the Adriatic coast.     USAID Economic Growth Project BACKGROUND The USAID Economic Growth Project is a 33-month initiative designed to increase economic opportunity in northern Montenegro. Through activities in 13 northern municipalities, the Economic Growth Project is promoting private-sector development to strengthen the competitiveness of the tourism sector, increase the competitiveness of agriculture and agribusiness, and improve the business-enabling environment at the municipal level. ACTIVITIES The project provides assistance to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, local tourist organizations, and business support service providers, as well as municipal governments to stimulate private sector growth. The project is: Strengthening the competitiveness of the tourism sector It is promoting the north as a tourist destination by supporting innovative service providers, building the region’s capacity to support tourism, assisting coordination with coastal tourism businesses, and expanding access to tourist information. Improving the viability of agriculture and agribusiness It is restoring agriculture as a viable economic activity by supporting agricultural producers and processors from the north to capitalize on market trends and generate more income. Bettering the business-enabling environment It is identifying barriers to doing business and assisting municipalities to execute plans to lower these obstacles by providing services and targeted investment. RESULTS 248 businesses have received assistance from Economic Growth Project (EGP)-supported activities. Sales of items produced by EGP-supported small businesses have increased by 15.8 percent since the project began. Linkages have been established between 111 Northern firms, as well as between Northern firms and Central and Southern firms. 26 EGP-assisted companies invested in improved technologies, 29 improved management practices, and 31 farmers, processors, and other firms adopted new technologies or management practices.

    MONTENEGRO 2020 HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Montenegro is a mixed parliamentary and presidential republic with a multiparty political system. Voters choose both the president and the unicameral parliament through popular elections. The president nominates, and the parliament approves, the prime minister. An observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe stated that the August 30 parliamentary elections were overall transparent and efficient, but highlighted that the ruling party gained an undue advantage through misuse of office and state resources and dominant media coverage, which undermined the quality of information available to voters. Milo Djukanovic, president of the Democratic Party of Socialists was elected president in 2018 with nearly 54 percent of the vote in the first round for his second term as president. He had already served six terms as prime minister. Observers from ODIHR, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly noted the election proceeded in an orderly manner but had minor irregularities that did not affect the outcome. Despite opposition protests, elections were generally considered free and fair. The National Police Force, which includes Border Police, is responsible for maintaining internal security. They are organized under the Police Administration, which is independent from the Ministry of Interior and report to the police director and, through him, to the prime minister. The Armed Forces of Montenegro are responsible for external security and consist of an army, navy, and air force that are overseen by the Ministry of Defense. Civilian authorities maintained effective control over the security forces.

YACHT BRIEFING All briefings are conducted on the chartered yacht and will take 40-60 minutes, depending on yacht size and crew experience. The team will give a detailed walk-through of your yacht’s technical equipment, information about safe and accurate navigation, including the yacht’s navigational instruments, as well as mooring, anchorage and itinerary help. The safety briefing introduces the safety equipment and your yacht’s general inventory. STOP OVERS For all DYC charters starting and/or ending in Kotor, a stopover on the last day of the charter is free of charge at the marina. DISEMBARKATION TIME Disembarkation is by Saturday 9am at the latest. All boats have to return to base on Friday and spend the last night in the marina. To assist in making checkout as smooth as possible, we ask that you arrive back at the base the evening before disembarkation.
