Many people have between them provided hundreds or thousands of records and this publication would not have been possible without them. More particularly, before my recording from 1996 onwards, plant records have been collected and collated in three distinct periods since the nineteenth century by previous botanists working in Dumfriesshire. The first of these was George F. Scott- Elliot. He was an eminent explorer and botanist who edited the first and only Flora so far published for Dumfriesshire in 1896. His work was greatly aided by other contributing botanists probably most notably Mr J.T. Johnstone and Mr W. Stevens. The second was Humphrey Milne-Redhead who was a GP in Mainsriddle in Kircudbrightshire from 1947. He was both the vice county recorder for Bryophytes and for Higher Plants for all three Dumfries and Galloway vice counties! During his time the first systematic recording was stimulated by work for the first Atlas of the British Flora (1962). He published a checklist in 1971/72. The third period of recording was between 1975 and 1993 led by Stuart Martin and particularly Mary Martin after Stuart’s death. Mary in particular continued systematic recording and recorded for the monitoring scheme in 1987/88. -

The transcriptions that follow are of baptisms, marriages and burials which are to be found in the Kirk Session records of Applegarth & Sibbaldbie Parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. These records are held by the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh. The entries in the register are taken from two Kirk Session volumes: Volume 1 contains baptisms and marriages from 1694-1703; as well as four death entries from 1697-1702, and four baptism entries from 1763. Volume 2 contains baptisms from 1703-1719; marriages from 1703-1712; and a few mortcloth records from 1704-1715, as well as nine baptism entries from 1765-1766 and a marriage from 1763. These entries are not to be found in the Old Parish Registers of Applegarth parish kept by the General Register Office (Scotland) at New Register House in Edinburgh, which does not commence until 1749, and it is believed they have not been transcribed or indexed before. Calendar Although in England and Wales prior to the year 1752 the year began on March 25, Scotland had adopted the date January 1 as the first day of the year on January 1, 1600. Therefore, at the time of this register the calendar year begins on January 1, as it does today. -

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT 1.1 This application is for planning permission in principle for the erection of workforce accommodation, associated welfare facilities and the formation of a vehicle parking area. 1.2 This proposal is associated with planning application 13/02272/FUL for the extension of existing construction/fabrication yard, including construction of concrete gravity bases, for energy sector, extension of existing quarry, site engineering works, siting of concrete batching plants and erection of industrial buildings within the existing Kishorn Yard. The overall proposals seek to form a base for construction, manufacturing and servicing facilities for the off-shore renewables sector. Kishorn Yard is currently in active industrial use and has a history of large scale industrial uses. It is estimated that up to 2,500 jobs could be created in construction, manufacturing, quarrying and support services associated with this application. This proposal has the potential to generate significant economic benefits. 1.3 This report should be read in conjunction with the committee report for planning application 13/02272/FUL. 1.4 Planning application 13/02272/FUL includes the erection of worker accommodation units and welfare facilities in modular portacabin style buildings within the existing yard boundaries. -
Pseudoscorpions
Colorado Arachnids of Interest Pseudoscorpions Class: Arachnida Order: Pseudoscorpiones Identification and Descriptive Features: Pseudoscorpions are tiny arachnids (typically Figure 1. Pseudoscorpion ranging from 1.25-4.5 mm body length). They possess pedipalps modified into pincers in a manner similar to scorpions. However, they differ in other features, notably possessing a broad, flattened abdomen that lacks the well developed tail and stinger. Approximately 200 species of pseudoscorpions have been described from North America. A 1961 review of pseudoscorpions within Colorado listed 30 species; however, these arachnids have only rarely been subjects for collection so their occurrence and distribution within Colorado is poorly known. The pseudoscorpion most often found within buildings is Chelifer cancroides, sometimes known as the “house pseudoscorpion”. It is mahogany brown color with a body length of about 3-4 mm and long pedipalps that may spread 8 mm across. Distribution in Colorado: Almost all pseudoscorpions that occur in Colorado are associated with forested areas although a few prairie species do occur. Conifer forests, including scrublands of pinyon and juniper, support several species. Others occur in association with Gambel oak and aspen. The house pseudoscorpion has an unusually broad distribution and is found associated with human dwellings over wide areas of North America and Europe. Life History and Habits: Pseudoscorpions usually occur under rocks, among fallen leaves or needles, under bark or similar moist sites where they hunt mites, springtails and small insects. Typically they wait in ambush within small crevices and grab passing prey with the pincers. In most species, connected to the movable “finger” of the pincer is a venom gland. -
