The February General Meeting of the WCRA will be held at Rainbow Creek Station in Confederation Park in Burnaby following the AGM. ON THE COVER Drake Street Roundhouse, Vancouver—taken November 1981 by Micah Gampe, and donated to the 374 Pavilion by Roundhouse Dental. Visible from left to right are British Columbia power car Prince George, Steam locomotive #1077 Herb Hawkins, Royal Hudson #2860’s tender, and CP Rail S-2 #7042 coming onto the turntable. In 1981, the roundhouse will soon be vacated by the railway, and the Provincial collection will move to BC Rail at North Vancouver. The Roundhouse will become a feature pavilion at Expo 86, and then be developed into today’s Roundhouse Community Centre and 374 Pavilion. Thanks to Len Brown for facilitating the donation of the picture to the Pavilion.     Section 4 ELECTRIC ROLLING STOCK EQUIPMENT POWER 4.1 EQUIPMENT DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS The rolling stock equipment to be selected must be designed and built in full accordance with the rules and regulations issued by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Recommendations issued by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). On May 12, 1999, FRA issued comprehensive rules addressing rail vehicle design and construction in accordance with operating speeds. Tier I of the rules apply to "...railroad passengerequipment operating at speedsnot exceeding 125 mph..." "Unless otherwise specified, these requirements only apply to passenger equipment ordered on or after September 8, 2000 or placed in service for the first time on or after September 9, 2002. The rule also states that "The structural standards of this subpart. do not apply to passengerequipment if used exclusively on a rail line: (i) With no public highway-rail grade crossings; (ii) On which no freight operations occur at any time; (iii) On which only passengerequipment of compatible design is utilized; (iv) On which trains operate at speedsnot exceeding 79 mph. The rule provides for alternative compliance by demonstrating "...at least an equivalent of safety in such environment with respect to the protection of its occupants from serious injury in the case of a derailment or collision." Given the fact that JPB's equipment: a) operates, or may operate in the future, on the same lines as other freight and passengertrains; and b) that it will likely operate at speeds higher than 79 mph in the future, it is assumed that the electrically powered rolling stock will be required to meet the rules and regulations as written, with no waivers or alternative solutions.

FUTURE WORLD(S): A Critique of Disney's EPCOT and Creating a Futuristic Curriculum by ALAN BOWERS (Under the Direction of Daniel Chapman) ABSTRACT In my dissertation inquiry, I explore the need for utopian based curriculum which was inspired by Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center. Theoretically building upon such works regarding utopian visons (Bregman, 2017, e.g., Claeys 2011;) and Disney studies (Garlen and Sandlin, 2016; Fjellman, 1992), this work combines historiography and speculative essays as its methodologies. In addition, this project explores how schools must do the hard work of working toward building a better future (Chomsky and Foucault, 1971). Through tracing the evolution of EPCOT as an idea for a community that would “always be in the state of becoming” to EPCOT Center as an inspirational theme park, this work contends that those ideas contain possibilities for how to interject utopian thought in schooling.

    COMMUTER RAIL SYSTEM ON-TIME PERFORMANCE REPORT October 2015 Division of Strategic Capital Planning December 2015 COMMUTER RAIL ON-TIME PERFORMANCE October 2015 This report presents an analysis of the October 2015 train delays as reported for Metra's eleven commuter rail lines. On-time is defined, for this analysis, as those regularly scheduled trains arriving at their last station stop less than six minutes behind schedule. Trains that are six minutes or more behind schedule, including annulled trains (trains that do not complete their scheduled runs), are regarded as late. “Extra” trains (trains added to handle special events but not shown in the regularly published timetables) are excluded from on-time performance calculations unless shown in special-event schedules that include all intermediate station stop times and are distributed publicly via Metra's website or on paper flyers. Cancelled (not annulled) trains and non-revenue trains are also excluded from on-time performance calculations. On-Time Performance Tables Table 1 presents the number of train delays by rail line and service period. During October 2015, Metra operated 17,717 scheduled trains, including scheduled “extras”, if any. 528 of these trains were delayed (late or annulled), representing an on-time performance rate of 97.0%. Table 2 lists on-time percentages by line for each month and year since 2010. Table 3 lists each train that was on time for less than 85% of its weekday runs in October 2015, in order of line, train, and dates delayed. The codes in the 'Delay Code' column of Table 3 are defined in Table 4 and shown sorted by delay-cause category and carrier designation in Table 5.

  • Holiday Letter 2009 1 Ruth Made a Wonderful Christmas Dinner
    ur 2009 holiday letter comes to you from beautiful Dominica, Nature Island of the Caribbean where we live now, spending some time O high-class formal snorkeling. We posted our 2008 letter early, after selling our Westboro MA home of over 30 years just before Thanksgiving. This update begins with our move on November 20, 2008. We had our first Thanksgiving away from home in 30 years, visiting our daughter Mathilda in New York City. Dinner was a great affair; a gathering of several of her friends with us as guests. On the trip we visited my cousin Bruce (retired NYC teacher now an art photographer www.flickr.com/photos/brucelivingston) & his wife Linda at their lovely restored farmhouse in Asbury NJ. (Not Asbury Park, the seashore resort; a little town in NJ’s northwest hills.) Then we swung down to the central seashore to visit my sister Naomi & husband Larry in Neptune City NJ and stayed with best friends Roger & Rita in Toms River NJ. We dropped off our 1997 Mazda Miata (above w/Ruth, in front of our former home) which they bought. Ruth’s official retirement date was December 31, 2008, but she used earned time off to make December 12 her last day at the office. Her friends from her US Army Soldier Systems Center office and from her former US Army Corps of Engineers office threw her a lovely sentimental farewell/retirement party. We departed the US December 13 and after an overnight in Puerto Rico we arrived in Dominica to establish our new home Sunday, December, 14.
