HELTENHAM UPDATE C Fall 2013 Cheltenham Police Attain Accreditation Thanks to a commitment to excellence, the Cheltenham Township Police Department (CTPD) attained accreditation from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) in April 2013. This achievement elevates Cheltenham to the elite ranks of only 95 local police agencies in Pennsylvania out of 1,117, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (2008). It also demonstrates that the CTPD delivers professional police services to the community, improving the safety of both the community and the officers that serve it, while reducing the department’s exposure to legal liability. Gibson, Writer/Editor C HELTENHAM UPDATE 4 From the Commissioner’s Desk Dear Neighbor: I’m very happy to report that the Automated Recycling Program we launched this April has been a great success. Not only has the average amount of recycling collected each month skyrocketed, the waste we transported to landfills in April, May and June decreased by 193.29 tons as compared to the same months last year. That translates directly into cost savings via lower waste disposal fees of over $12,500 in addition to higher revenues for recyclable sales. I want to thank all of the residents who have embraced the new program so enthusiastically. However, our Public Works team offers these important reminders. First, please be sure you don’t put your trash can right next to your recycling cart since the automated truck’s arm needs a 3-foot clearance around that cart in order to grab it. Second, all cardboard has to be placed inside the recycling cart with the lid down. Cardboard left on the curb won’t be collected
