BELL FAIR SUCCESS

The Friends of St Peter's would like to thank all of those who came to support the Bell Fair on October 29th, and we are extremely grateful to the Hatwell family who offered to stage the fair specifically to raise money for the bells. The day was a great success, raising over £1500 towards the restoration of the church bells, which is planned for 2012. The fairground rides were very popular with even some of the village's more mature residents enjoying themselves on the biggest ride (in spite of the screaming!). Thanks too for all of those who helped at the barbeque, the skittles, the afternoon teas, the quiz and the supper. It was also good to have some live music from talented local youngsters Catch 23 in the afternoon, and from the Cassington Singers and C Factor winner Kevin Perisi in the evening. 4 The Poppy Appeal The Poppy Appeal collection in Cassington and Worton this year realised £1269.95. Last year we reached a notable landmark by exceeding £1000 for the first time, but this year’s total is very handsomely above that. We would like to thank all the volunteers who made it possible by visiting every house or for having collecting boxes on their premises. As before, our Poppy Appeal Organiser Clare Want undertook the donkey work involved in making the Appeal such a success. The Legion is extremely grateful to the many people who gave so generously. This excellent result is at least in part due to awareness of the sacrifices continuing to be made by members of our armed forces, brought so poignantly home to us by the all too frequent corteges passing down the A40. Once again the service at the war memorial on Remembrance Sunday was well attended. Something like 100 people observed the occasion, enhanced by the usual parading of our Legion Standard and the traditional stirring trumpet calls. Fortunately this year we had very pleasant spring like weather. Mike Randle Derek Waters displays the Cassington RBL Standard Hon.Secretary, R.B.L. Cassington

Perspective 18 High Street, Woodstock, Oxon OX20 1TF 01993 813770 www.perspectivewoodstock.com A new era for Oxford’s Old Fire Station was kicked off – the metaphor is appropriate – by the young stage wannabees of Dream Studios Youth Theatre with Playing Fields and 5-inch Heels. The focus of this enjoyable feelgood show was the world of women’s football – for DREAM STUDiOS which in this case read girls’. Written and directed by the group’s leader Mandy Theatre and Media Arts School Constance, the play-with-music was clearly tailored to match the strengths of the youngsters involved, who Where Dreams take shape ranged in age from eight to 15. 10 Oxfordshire Theatre Company are bringing THE JUNGLE BOOK to Cassington Village Hall on Thursday 8 December at 6.00pm Tickets £8 adults £6 concessions, family ticket £25 – where else can you get live theatre for this price? Oxfordshire Theatre Company present the thrilling and heart-warming story of Mowgli, the boy brought up by wolves. Educated by Baloo, the bear and Bagheera, the panther and hunted by the great tiger, Shere Khan, Mowgli must learn the laws of the jungle and become a young man with the confidence to walk alone. Adapted by award winning playwright, Neil Duffield, who wrote the company’s acclaimed production of Alice in Wonderland, this production is packed with all the drama, excitement and fun of Rudyard Kipling’s classic story. Inventively staged and performed through a dazzling blend of theatre, songs, puppetry and movement you’ll be certain of a very special experience for children and the young at heart alike. The show is ‘an engaging musical enjoyed by an audience of all ages’. However, I have been advised that Shere Khan the tiger is a bit scary for the under fives!
