Leonard Riccinro of his recent invitacion to recurn co the stage at New Yo rk's Carnegie Hall. "To be invited back is a real compliment. For them co invite us, they had co have liked it the first time and appreciace whac we are doing." Riccinco, who has been at Eastern Michigan for 14 years, recently directed a group of choirs from Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin in a performance of "Gloria" by Francis Poulenc. Part of the Michigan contingent was the 43-person EMU Fescival Choir, composed of undergraduaces, graduate scudents, faculty and alumni. The ocher Michigan performers were from Plymouth-Canton High School, Eaton Rapids High School and the Plymouth Oratorical Society. Colleagues from other wuversities recommended that Riccinco remrn to conduct the choirs. Experience also played a pan. Riccimo conducted a similar choir at Carnegie in 1996. The members of the choir were selected based on the recommendation of choral directors. "Ic's an honor. It's almost a life-altering experience," Riccinto said of being on che Carnegiescage. Shepard replaces John Fountain, who has been the play-by-play announcer for EMU football since the 1960s and will continue as play-by-play announcer for men's and women's basketball. "It's something I've aspired co be fora long time, to do Division I football and be able to stay in the area where my familyand friends can hear me," Shepard said. Shepard was born and raised in Farmington Hills, Mich., and al­ ways dreamed of covering his hometown teams as a sports reporter. That dream was realized in 1992 when he came co WW) Newsradio 950. Shepard attended EMU for two years and graduated from Cen­ tral Michigan University in 1988. He is a big believer in the Mid American Conference, especially since he is a MAC graduate. "The MAC doesn't get the credit it deserves. le needs to be recognized more than it has been in the past," said Shepard.
