Colonie. New Orleans, 18 Thermidor, Year 11. --Louisiane ( 6 AlIgUllt 1803.) ---- The Colonial Pretect ot Louisiana To lIr. Favrot, CCI!ltllsndant ot the Fort ot Plaquemine st Plaqu ine.

It is quite true, , that I han been ill with tevers which began rather seriously but which, on account ot good medical treat ment, did not di.tress IIIlI long. My conTSles eenee has been slow. I have recovered quite well. However I am still under a severe diet. We are, 'IIf7 wite and myselt, equally gratit1ed tor all the kind and tellder expressions that you have written us on this occasion. It has not blllln ditticult tor us to underst8Jtd, dur iDg tile short tilllll we spent with your tl!llB11y, how we could expect to find therein amiable sentiments, and it has also inspired us with a sincere intersst.

The war could retard the taking ot poe session. In view ot the disposition prompt iDg at present the French Government, some very great changes are necessary, in my opinion, to prevent the execution ot the Treaties a little soonsr or a little later.

As to the reports spread by the Anglo Americans do not believe a word ot them. That is the pasture needed by the rabble ot their petty intriguers to teed their credulous peo- ple ot the wilderness, in order to carry through their paltry schemes end their shallow views ot political ambition; but it would be astooiehing that eensible people should belisve such nonsense. SUch is 'IIf7 opinion. It is essential to assume (2)

that tba course of the last negotiations has furiously subverted the views of our Cabinet in order that the 88id opinion results in contradiction with the events.

For IJZ:f part, Sir, I in par ticular about anything concerning me or con cerning the intentions of IJZ:f OOTllrnment i but I have no doubt that on the first occasion I shall receive so e instructions or orders.

Likewise, I 8JI not surprised at all by that which you tell me in your Postscript I was assured since, that the French vessel I or cutter fitted out as a Yarsbip has entered the River. It will not delay, I think, to ap pear here; at this moment I do not see anything clear regarding the probabilities of its miasion except that it will bring me tresh and official news trom France.

I pray you to continue to inform me direct ly regarding that which, in your opinion, could interest me with res~ct to the entrances aDd sailings at la Balise.

Convey IJZ:f homages and my wife's compli ments to your Ladies.

Accept yourself, Sir, the assurances or IJZ:f attachment and respect.

It was not difficult for us ~o Judge, during the l1tUe time we Ipent with your family, how lII1ch we were elated to find in it true sentimentl and which inlpired us with a like interes~.

The War might retard the taking pouellion. Know ing the spirit which today incites the French Gov ernment, from =y viewpoint it necessitates great changes that sooner or later must be executed•

.le for the fear the Anglo-Americana are spreading, do not believe a word. It is a provender in case of the fall of their little intrigue, to be used to fe d their people deserts , finally coming to the end of their lit~le party, the ambitious politicians will be astonished that they were ever taken in by such nonsense; such is my point of view. It will be necessary for the course of the last negotiations to uplet the viewl of our cabinet, which are a contra di~ion to events. As for me, Sir, I know nothing in particular about aIV'thing which concerns me, or the intentions of IV Goverment, but I do not doubt that instructions or ordera rill arrive.
