Example 10-Day Azores Expedition Itinerary Day From To Description 1 UK Azores – Fly to the Azores. London to Sao Miguel Island. Arrive at Ponta del Sao Garda. Bus transfer into town. Afternoon spent exploring the town. Miguel Evening in a local hostel. 2 Sao Pico Transfer to Ponta del Garda airport. Fly to Pico island. Miguel Bus transfer to Madalena campsite. Set up camp. Visit Madalena town. Prepare for main trek. 3 Pico Pico Meet trekking guide in the morning and pack tents and large bags onto van. These will be waiting for the team at the evening campsite. Visit the UNESCO world heritage vineyards and start the trek to Pico mountain lodge. On route stop at Gruta das Torres and visit the lava tube. Approach trek to Mount Pico. Wild camp at the Pico mountain lodge. 4 Pico Pico Mount Pico Trek Check in at the mountain lodge and start the climb to Pico’s summit. At the extremity of the top crater lies the volcanic cone of Little Pico, with a height of about 70 metres and with fumaroles at its base. This is the summit of the mountain. Descend back down the mountain. Bus transfer to Lajes do Pico. Evening camping. 5 Pico Pico Visit the whaling museum and board a boat for an afternoon of whale watching. Evening camping in Lajes do Pico. 6 Pico Pico Bus transfer to Lagoa do Paul. Trek to the summit of volcano Topo and then across the island to Sao Roque monastery. Evening in the old monastery. 7 Pico Sao Bus transfer to Madelana. Fly to Sao Miguel island. Bus transfer to Miguel Sete Cidades. Evening at campsite next to Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. 8 Sao Sao Morning canoeing on Lagoa Azul, followed by trekking around the Miguel Miguel southern rim of the crater ridge. 9 Sao Sao Morning spent trekking around the northern rim of the crater ridge. Miguel Miguel Afternoon bus transfer to Ponta Delgada for a celebratory final meal. 10 Azores UK Fly back to the UK. Dunkley JP, MP Premier and Minister of National Security Official visit to The Autonomous Region of Azores and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding Friday, 20th May 2016 Mr. Speaker, This morning I am pleased to share with this Honourable House details of the successful historic visit to the Autonomous Region of Azores. I was accompanied to the Azores by the Hon. Trevor G. Moniz, Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Dr. Derrick Binns, Secretary to the Cabinet and Ms Kimberley Durrant, UK Representative. An official invitation was extended by President Vasco Alves Cordeiro to visit the Azores during a visit last June of a delegation of the Azores Government to Bermuda. At our meeting in Bermuda, the Azores Government invited us to consider and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the historic and cultural ties that unite Bermuda and the Azores. Mr. Speaker In 1849 Portuguese immigrants first arrived on Bermuda’s shores from Madeira and the Azores. Since that time the Portuguese community has played a significant role towards the economic, political and social advancement of Bermuda. The Azores is a strong viable partner to Bermuda and a Memorandum of Understanding will only strengthen that special relationship between both our communities. Mr. Speaker The Memorandum of Understanding, which I am pleased to lay before this House today, sets a framework for promoting: 1. Cooperation and mutual understanding between Bermuda and the Azores; and 2. The encouragement of closer ties between our peoples, institutions and public and private entities.
