Visit Madalena town. Prepare for main trek. 3 Pico Pico Meet trekking guide in the morning and pack tents and large bags onto van. These will be waiting for the team at the evening campsite. Visit the UNESCO world heritage vineyards and start the trek to Pico mountain lodge. On route stop at Gruta das Torres and visit the lava tube. Approach trek to Mount Pico. Wild camp at the Pico mountain lodge. 4 Pico Pico Mount Pico Trek Check in at the mountain lodge and start the climb to Pico’s summit. At the extremity of the top crater lies the volcanic cone of Little Pico, with a height of about 70 metres and with fumaroles at its base. This is the summit of the mountain. Descend back down the mountain. Bus transfer to Lajes do Pico. Evening camping. 5 Pico Pico Visit the whaling museum and board a boat for an afternoon of whale watching. Evening camping in Lajes do Pico. 6 Pico Pico Bus transfer to Lagoa do Paul. Trek to the summit of volcano Topo and then across the island to Sao Roque monastery. Evening in the old monastery. 7 Pico Sao Bus transfer to Madelana. Fly to Sao Miguel island. Bus transfer to Miguel Sete Cidades. Evening at campsite next to Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. 8 Sao Sao Morning canoeing on Lagoa Azul, followed by trekking around the Miguel Miguel southern rim of the crater ridge. 9 Sao Sao Morning spent trekking around the northern rim of the crater ridge.
