Nevük ma már évtizedek óta világhírű: Dire Straits. Megemlíthetjük még azt is, hogy a Dire Straits stílust teremtett, de iskolát nem. Ez a stílus pedig aligha viselne el még egy ilyen előadót. Követők tehát nemigen akadnak. Meg aztán a Dire Straits zenéje 1985-ig nem vált olyan értékűvé, mint mondjuk a Pink Floyd vagy a Genesis munkássága. A divat már csak ilyen. A Dire Straitset ismerik, szeretik, méltányolják, de nem másolják. Akad még ilyen a műfajban, mégha kevés is.
