Several measures had been taken in order to reduce industrial waste, such as : - 1) Encourage local suppliers or in proximity supplier to take back their packaging materials for reuse. 2) Intensively practice the waste segregation according to the wastes category. 3) Installed solder recover machine to recover solder from our solder dross for reuse back in solder machine. Besides the measures mentioned above could reduce the environment burden, those activities could also help in preserving the natural resources and reduce the operating costs. 20 To achieve the reduction of industrial waste, SMM has improved its industrial waste management by recover pure solder from solder dross with solder recovery machine. Normally, we dispose solder dross through the DOE licensed contractor in a large amount but after using solder recovery machine, disposal of solder dross was reduced by up to 75%. With this Solder Recovery System we are not only reduce the industrial wastes but also it help us in reducing solder cost. All rights reserved. www.arpnjournals.com DETERMINATION OF SUITABLE LANDFILL SITE AT BATU PAHAT USING GIS AND ANALYTICAL HIERARCHY PROCESS Saifullizan Mohd Bukari1, Masiri Kaamin1, Tan Lai Wai1, Mustaffa Anjang Ahmad1, Munirah Ghazali1 and Mohamad Abdul Rahman2 1Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia 2Politeknik Sultan Hj Ahmad Shah (POLISAS), Semambu, Kuantan Pahang, Malaysia E-Mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT Landfill is the area for the disposal of solid waste. The increase in solid waste production has resulted in existing landfills are no longer able to accommodate the number of waste more and more. Difficulty arises in determining suitable area as landfills causing a lot of problems. This study aimed to determine the appropriate area as landfills in Batu Pahat district by using Geographic Information System (GIS). In addition to the Batu Pahat district has yet to have its own landfill. GIS is an information system that can help make a decision on the form of a map display. The ability of GIS is integrating spatial data and data attributes in the collect, store and analyze the data. Spatial Data used in this study includes street maps, land use maps, map series, gradient map, map of flood area, and map of settlements, location map and a map of the river. This data has been divided into two parts in the form of attribute data includes the criteria constraints and criteria factors.

This study focused on hydrology properties and water quality of Sembrong Dam in Johor, Malaysia. The result indicated that soil loss about 487.12 kg/km2/day, for rainfall and evaporation records are 1862 mm and 1098 mm for hydrology properties; Sembrong dam categorized as Class III according to NWQS. Sembrong dam need a treatment for further environmental technology in the future. © 2015 The The Authors. Authors. Published Published by Elsevier by Elsevier Ltd. Introduction All living organisms need water. It plays an important role in many natural processes and is essential in countless physical and chemical reactions (Fang et al, 2005). Water is considered a renewable resource, renewable referring to that portion which circulates through the hydrological cycle.

Abstract: Groundwater as an alternative source still does not contribute to the water supply in area of Parit Raja because of the limitation of water availability in the ground. This lacking of groundwater could be caused by the circumstance that the top layer of soil is dominated by compacted clay around 2 meters in which its permeability is small, so the water is difficult to infiltrate the ground. The recharge well technique was designed based on the flat area problems, layer of real condition, flow water table and low infiltration rate. Resistivity soundings were made at existing wells to assess the subsurface layers. Beside that, the past records on floods event, sub surface and surface studies were collected around study area as a preliminary studies. It was presented that the study area promised good prospects to increase the capability of groundwater and contribute to the drainage system by reducing the volume of rainfall runoff using the recharge well technique. Key words: Groundwater, recharge well, water supply, drainage system.
