Does not feel too delicate, which for some reason is something that other presses seem to be going for. I like this sturdiness very much. It is also easy to rinse out. The filtering screen is nice and tight and does not gather grounds like other presses. This is very convenient for cleaning. – Jennifer

© Copyright 998 East. All Rights Reserved. Caution The carafe of this French coffee press is made of glass and should be handled with care.

The carafe is heat resistant – which means it will stand up to the rigors of adding hot water – but it is glass and when broken, requires extreme care in handling.

For this reasons, we recommend care when using and handling, including when washing by hand.

Carefully inspect the carafe before using. If cracks or chips in the glass are observed at any time, immediately stop using and discard all already made with the coffee press.

Never attempt to remove or adjust carafe within its protective housing. This can damage or break the glass. If the item arrives with a misaligned carafe, please contact Customer Support.

Caution The water you pour into the coffee press will be hot. Use caution when pouring hot water into the press, when stirring your brewing coffee/tea, when pressing the filter down and when pouring the drink into serving cups.

As with any product made of glass that can involve hot liquids, please use with care.

Don’t use metal utensils.

Don’t push plunger with too much force or at an angle.

Don’t use in a microwave oven.

Inspect glass carafe before first and every use to make sure it has not been damaged in shipping or storage. If any cracked glass is observed, do not use!

How to Get the Most from Your French Press

Use filtered water for better taste.

The “magic” happens during brewing, not by pressing down on the grounds (leaves) with the plunger. Don’t try to compress the mixture.

The fresh coffee from a French press is best consumed immediately. Don’t make more coffee than you can enjoy in one sitting. If you do have coffee leftover, pour it into a separate container or your coffee will continue brew (at a reduced rate) if it remains in contact with the grounds.

Adjust the ratio of coffee to water to match your tastes. When brewing iced coffee, use a higher ratio of coffee to water. The coffee isn’t as soluble in the cooler water.

Use coarse-ground coffee, only coarse enough to not pass through the mesh filter but still fine enough to maximize flavor.

Seeing some sediment in your is not uncommon (especially if using a finer grind). Pour slowly and don’t completely empty the carafe to minimize the sediment transferred to your cup.

Consider experimenting with longer brew times (as much as 8 minutes) (as long as you’re using a coarse grind) to see how the resulting flavors match up against your preferences.

Use water just below the boiling temperature (195-205 ºF).

Don’t wait to clean your coffee press. Once the coffee and grounds dry, it becomes much more difficult to clean.

Question: Why is there space below the filter even when pressed all the way down? Answer: Because the press can be used to make between 1 and 4 cups of drink. The space you see when brewing only a single cup of coffee will be gone when making a full pot.

Question: How am I supposed to press the coffee grounds with this space below the filter? Answer: See previous question.

The French press brews coffee when the plunger is up and stops when the plunger is down. Pressing the plunger down stops the brewing process and separates the coffee grounds from the coffee. Applying pressure to the coffee grounds is not actually part of the process!

Fun and brightens the kitchen. Easy to use, easy to clean. Makes a fine cup of coffee. – anonymous © Copyright 998 East. All Rights Reserved. Frequently Asked Questions (Continued)

Question: Does it take longer to make coffee with a coffee press? Answer: Once you have hot water and ground coffee, it only takes about 4 minutes. Works like a charm. – bl Question: Does it require a special kind of coffee? Answer: Coarse ground works best. Finely ground coffee can more easily sneak past the filter. Because the coffee and water are together for the entire brewing process, there’s no need to use fine-ground coffee.

Question: What if I don’t have coarse-ground coffee? Answer: You can still use fine- ground coffee, but the results won’t be as good and you may find more grounds getting past the filter and into your coffee.

Question: Is the plastic in the lid BPA-free? Answer: Yes!

© Copyright 998 East. All Rights Reserved. Frequently Asked Questions (Continued) Question: Can the same coffee press be used for both coffee and tea? Answer: Yes, but we recommend very thorough rinsing when switching from one to the other. Otherwise, you risk flavors and oils from the coffee getting into your tea.

Question: Should the plunger be pressed quickly or slowly? Answer: Slowly (about 5 to 10 seconds).

Question: Can the filter be replaced? Answer: Yes, although needing to replace the filter should be a rarity. But for your convenience in case it should be needed, a spare replacement is included in the box.

This coffee maker is beautiful and makes a delicious cup of coffee. Highly recommended for discriminating coffee drinkers. –Barbara

Question: Does coffee brewed with a French press really taste better? Answer: We think so and so do many others. Of course, in the end, it will be for you to decide!

Question: Will there be any coffee grounds in my coffee? Answer: It’s possible. The filter and its assembly will do a good job of keeping coffee grounds out of your coffee, but the occasional piece could still sneak through. If you notice this happening regularly, inspect your filter for damage and replace as needed. Note that as with any coffee press, it is normal for very fine particles to appear in the bottom of your coffee cup (only a paper filter could eliminate these). Many people choose to not completely pour their from the press into their cups and then also to leave the last sip of coffee in their cups. Rad french press!! I'm very clumsy and feel more confident using this type of press that won't break as easily as others. – Rosy

Am VERY pleased and my AM cup of coffee now tastes fabulous!! Simple and easy and quick, perfect! Thank you for your most excellent product! – Gad
