Part 2: Families Stephanoceratidae, Perisphinctidae, Parkinsoniidae, Morphoceratidae and Tulitidae by M i c h a l Z a t o n With 15 plates, IS text-figures and 4 tables Abstract The present paper is the second, and last, part o f a larger monographic work concerning the systematic descriptions o f the Bajo- cian-Bathonian (Middle Jurassic) ammonite fauna irom the Polish Jura, south-central Poland. In this part, the systematic description ot the ammonite species belonging to the families Stephanoceratidae, Perisphinctidae, Parkinsoniidae, Morphoceratidae and Tulitidae is given. Fifty seven species, twenty one o f which left in open nomenclature, representing fifteen genera ( Teloceras, Normannites, G a ran tian a, C adom ites, 'iLeptosphinctes, Vermisphinctes, Procerites, Wagnericeras, Choffatia, Parkinsonia, Morphoceras, Asphinctites, Tulites, Bullatimorphites and Morrisiceras) are described. The stratigraphic ranges o f the species coming from investigated sections of the Polish Jura were presented, as well. The palaeobiogeographic analysis on the species level shows, that since latest Bajocian (Parldn- soni Chron) up to Late Bathonian (Orbis Chron), the ammonite assemblages o f the Polish Jura were most similar to those o f the western and north-western regions. Although the influence o f Tethyan ammonite faunas is visible in particular chrons, it was insig­ nificant. Only during the latest Bajocian (Parkinsoni Chron), the strong influence o f Tethyan ammonites is clearly visible and linked to the transgressive pulse from the south. Kutuzova All-Union Scientific Research Petroleum Geologic Exploration Institute (VSEGEI) ABSTRACT: The stratigraphic distribution, phylogenetic relationships, and systema­ tics of the Middle Jurassic heteromorphic ammonites and their relationship to the monomorphic ammonites are considered. Sulcohamitoides gen. nov. and Ga�antiana as­ a�jani sp. nov. are described. * * * The vast majority of Middle Jurassic heteromorphic ammonites are shells with a spiral developing early in one plane, all the way to the formation of a straight tube in the outer part of the phragmocone and in the living chamber. They are also characterized by reduction of the U and I lobes in ontogenesis, manifested to a greater or lesser degree, and by only slight dissection of their lobes and saddles. The following generic names of the Jurassic heteromorphs are given in the lite­ rature. A�cuce�as Potonie, 1929, for which the family Arcuceratidae Arkell, 1950 has been proposed. This genus is based on a single species, A. ma�thae Potonie, from the Pliensbachian of Germany, the only specimen of which has been lost. Repeated searches at the type locality have been unsuccessful. It has been suggested that the dating is erroneous, or that the species and genus are based not on a heteromor­ phic ammonite, but on acrinoid stem. Apso��oce�as Hyatt, 1900, occurs in the lower half of the subfu�catum zone of the Upper-Bajocian and has usually been combined with Spi�oce�as Quenstedt, 1858, from which it differs in its less reduced U and I lobes and its finer sculpture.

The assemblage contains species of the genera Garantiana, Pseudogarantiana, Paragarantiana, Djanaliparkinsonia (all family Stephanoceratidae) and Vermisphinctes (family Perisphinctidae). A section of the Garantiana Zone on the Kyafar River contains (from bottom to top) Beds with Djanaliparkinsonia alanica (also recognized on the Kuban River), Beds with Garantiana subgaranti and Beds with Paragarantiana, approximately corresponding to the Dichotoma, Garantiana, and Tetragona subzones of the standard scale. Garantiana subgaranti Wetzel and Vermisphinctes martiusii (d’Orbigny) are described. Prorsisphinctes Buck- man, 1921 is proposed as a junior subjective synonym of Vermisphinctes Buckman, 1920.     Sexual dimorphism in the Bathonian morphoceratid ammonite Polysphinctites tenuiplicatus HORACIO PARENT and MICHAŁ ZATOŃ Parent, H. and Zatoń, M. 2016. Sexual dimorphism in the Bathonian morphoceratid ammonite Polysphinctites tenuipli- catus. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 61 (4): 875–884. Asphinctites tenuiplicatus [M] and Polysphinctites secundus [m] from the Asphinctites tenuiplicatus Zone (Early Batho- nian), are usually considered as a sexual dimorphic pair, although authors describe them as separate species. We used statistical methods to test the sexual dimorphic correspondence between those morphospecies, based on a rather large sample of well-preserved macro- and microconchs derived from a single horizon of calcareous concretions in the Polish Jura. Our results indicate that both dimorphs or sexes have identical ontogeny up to a critical diameter, from which they diverge towards the characteristic morphology and sculpture of each dimorph. Thus, both dimorphs are described as a single species: Polysphinctites tenuiplicatus [M and m]. After review of the several nominal species usually assigned to the genera Asphinctites and Polysphinctites throughout their stratigraphic and biogeographic range in the Early Bathonian of the Tethys, it is concluded that they actually correspond to only two species of a single lineage. The corre- sponding name for the lineage should be Polysphinctites (= Asphinctites as a junior synonym). Key words: Ammonoidea, Morphoceratidae, dimorphism, macroconch, microconch, Jurassic, Poland. В нижней части разреза найдены также многочисленные микроконхи R. sherstyu- kovi sp. nov. и более редкие макроконхи R. kyafarensis sp. nov. FERNANDEZ-LOPEZ, MARIA HELENA HENRIQUES AND CHARLES MANGOLD The Cabo Mondego outcrops exposed along the cliffs, on the western margin of the Iberian Plate, show an expanded strati graphic section of Lower Bathonian deposits containing abundant ammonoids. Upper Bajocian deposits correspond to similar facies, of muddy limestones alternating with marlstones, although ammonoids are scarce. A detailed succession of ammonites across the Bajocian/Bathonian boundary has been recognized at Cabo Mondego, which can form a useful bio- and chronostratigraphic standard for the Lusitanian Basin. The revision of previous collections from the classical section and new field samplings of two other separate sections allow the recognition through up to twenty metres of thickness, the highest zone of Bajocian (Parkinsoni Zone) and the lowest zone of Bathonian (Zigzag Zone). The Parkinsoni and the Zigzag zones established for NW European areas and belonging to the Northwest European Province, can be identified in the Lusitanian Basin, although the ammonite fossil assemblages are composed of Submediterranean taxa. Read Full License Page 1/21 Abstract Background: Expression of a sexual dimorphism is recognised in various fossil groups of molluscs such as the Ammonoidea, an extinct group of shelled cephalopods. During the Mesozoic, the best documented sexual dimorphic examples are seen in the Jurassic superfamily Perisphinctoidea. It is most usually expressed by distinct adult size and apertural modications between the antidimorphs. Putative males (otherwise referred to as microconch) are small in size and develop lappets at the end of the shell while the females (macroconch) are larger and bear a simple peristome. Dubious cases are, however, known in that superfamily. They most often relate to taxonomic biases or lack of diagnostic characters, and some others expose ontogenetic anomalies illustrated by ‘sex reversals’ in the shell morphology and ornamentation. Results: The discovery of two specimens of the Callovian Aspidoceratidae Peltoceras athleta (Phillips), having both female and male features, questions the signicance and causes of ‘sex reversals’ in the Ammonoidea. The two specimens have started with the macroconch ontogeny of Peltoceras athleta, and show an apparent change toward maleness in the adult, as illustrated by their rounded whorl section, ribs retroversion, fading of the tubercles and lappets typical of the microconchs.
