Late Bajocian–Bathonian Ammonites from Northeast Iran ACTA PALAEONTOLOGICA ROMANIAE (2015) V. 11 (2), P. 25-41 LATE BAJOCIAN–BATHONIAN AMMONITES FROM NORTHEAST IRAN Mahmoud Reza Majidifard Received: 19 August 2015 / Accepted: 18 December 2015 / Published online: 22 December 2015 Abstract The present study is the first part of a larger work concerning the systematic descriptions of the fairly rich Middle to Upper Jurassic (Late Bajocian–Early Tithonian) ammonite fauna from the northeast of Iran. The described ammonites come from the lower part of the Dalichai Formation, consisting of an alternation of green marl, grey limestone and marly limestone, and comprise the families Phylloceratidae, Spiroceratidae, Oppeliidae, Sphaeroceratidae, Stephanoceratidae, Tulitidae, Parkinsoniidae, Morphoceratidae and Perisphinctidae. Some of the taxa are recorded for the first time from Iran: Adabofoloceras subobtusum, Spiroceras cf. orbignyi, Spiroceras annulatum, Cadomites (Polyplectites) cf. dorni, Sphaeroceras tutthum, Garantiana (Orthogarantiana) cf. Densicostata, Garantiana (Pseudogarantiana) dichotoma, Morphoceras egrediens, Microbajocisphinctes cf. pseudointerruptus, Homoeoplanulites (Homoeoplanulites) cf. bugesiacus, Homoeoplanulites (Parachoffatia) arkelli. The following Upper Bajocian to Lower Bathonian ammonite zones are present: Niortense, Garantiana, Parkinsoni, Zigzag, Retrocostatum and Discus. Palaeobiogeographically, the described ammonite fauna is closely related to those from the Sub-Mediterranean Province of the northwestern Tethys. Keywords: Jurassic; Iran; Late Bajocian–Bathonian; ammonites; taxonomy; Dalichai Formation. INTRODUCTION GEOLOGICAL SETTING The Dalichai Formation (Upper Bajocian–Lower The Dalichai Formation, named after the village and river Tithonian) is a rather soft-weathering lithostratigraphic Dalichai in the eastern Central Alborz, consists of an unit widely distributed in the Alborz and Binalud alternation of green marl, grey limestone and marly mountains of northern and northeastern Iran (Fig. 1). • Systematics of the Middle Jurassic Heteromorphic Ammonites
UDC 564. 53 . 01 SYSTEMATICS OF THE MIDDLE JURASSIC HETEROMORPHIC AMMONITES N. V. Besnosov and V. V. Kutuzova All-Union Scientific Research Petroleum Geologic Exploration Institute (VSEGEI) ABSTRACT: The stratigraphic distribution, phylogenetic relationships, and systema tics of the Middle Jurassic heteromorphic ammonites and their relationship to the monomorphic ammonites are considered. Sulcohamitoides gen. nov. and Gaantiana as ajani sp. nov. are described. * * * The vast majority of Middle Jurassic heteromorphic ammonites are shells with a spiral developing early in one plane, all the way to the formation of a straight tube in the outer part of the phragmocone and in the living chamber. They are also characterized by reduction of the U and I lobes in ontogenesis, manifested to a greater or lesser degree, and by only slight dissection of their lobes and saddles. The following generic names of the Jurassic heteromorphs are given in the lite rature. Acuceas Potonie, 1929, for which the family Arcuceratidae Arkell, 1950 has been proposed. This genus is based on a single species, A. mathae Potonie, from the Pliensbachian of Germany, the only specimen of which has been lost. Repeated searches at the type locality have been unsuccessful. It has been suggested that the dating is erroneous, or that the species and genus are based not on a heteromor phic ammonite, but on acrinoid stem. Apsooceas Hyatt, 1900, occurs in the lower half of the subfucatum zone of the Upper-Bajocian and has usually been combined with Spioceas Quenstedt, 1858, from which it differs in its less reduced U and I lobes and its finer sculpture.

A palaeontological revision of the genus Strenoceras HYATTwith the subgenus Strenoceras HYATT(m) and Garantiana HYATT(M) is executed.

The assemblage contains species of the genera Garantiana, Pseudogarantiana, Paragarantiana, Djanaliparkinsonia (all family Stephanoceratidae) and Vermisphinctes (family Perisphinctidae). A section of the Garantiana Zone on the Kyafar River contains (from bottom to top) Beds with Djanaliparkinsonia alanica (also recognized on the Kuban River), Beds with Garantiana subgaranti and Beds with Paragarantiana, approximately corresponding to the Dichotoma, Garantiana, and Tetragona subzones of the standard scale. Garantiana subgaranti Wetzel and Vermisphinctes martiusii (d’Orbigny) are described. Prorsisphinctes Buck- man, 1921 is proposed as a junior subjective synonym of Vermisphinctes Buckman, 1920. Abh. 283/2 (2017), 119–149 Article E Stuttgart, February 2017 Occurrences, age and paleobiogeography of rare genera Phlycticeras and Pachyerymnoceras from South Tethys Sreepat Jain With 24 figures Abstract: New data on two rare genera (Phlycticeras and Pachyerymnoceras) from the Callovian (Middle Jurassic) sediments of Kachchh, western India are presented with an update on their South Tethyan occurrences. This paper documents the earliest occurrence of the genus Phlycticeras from the entire south of Tethys (P. polygonium var. polygonium [M]) from latest Early Callovian sediments (= Proximum Subzone, Gracilis Zone). Further, in light of the new taxonomic data, the previously recorded early Middle Callovian P. gr. pustulatum [M] is reevaluated as also all other Phlycticeras occurrences from the Indian subcontinent. Data suggests that in Kachchh, Phlycticeras has a long range from the latest Early to Late Callovian interval. Additionally, two new macroconch species of Pachyerymnoceras are also described and illustrated from Late Callovian sediments. A critical review of previous records suggests that in Kachchh, Pachyerymnoceras is restricted to the Submediterranean interval of the Collotiformis-Poculum subzones of the Athleta Zone. A note on the paleobiogeography and probable migratory routes of these two genera to India and elsewhere is also suggested. Key words: Kachchh, Middle Jurassic, Late Callovian, Pachyerymnoceras, Phlycticeras. 1. • The Mode of Life in the Genus Pholadomya As Inferred from the Fossil Record
geosciences Article The Mode of Life in the Genus Pholadomya as Inferred from the Fossil Record Przemysław Sztajner Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences, University of Szczecin, Mickiewicza 16A, 70-383 Szczecin, Poland; [email protected] Received: 13 July 2020; Accepted: 21 September 2020; Published: 5 October 2020 Abstract: The paper is an attempt to reconstruct the mode of life of Pholadomya bivalves, very common in the fossil record, particularly that of the Jurassic. The only extant representative of the genus is extremely rare and very poorly known. Materials from the Polish Jurassic deposits (Bajocian–Kimmeridgian; Western Pomerania and Polish Jura) and literature data were used for the reconstruction. Specifically, observations on the anatomy, taphonomy, and diagenesis of the specimens examined as well as lithology of the deposits housing the specimens were used. Shell anatomy characteristics are known for their particular utility in mode of life reconstructions, although the extremely thin-shelled and coarsely sculpted bivalves, such as the Pholadomya examined, have not been studied so far. The reconstruction suggest a diversity of the mode of life, coincident with the morphological differences between the Pholadomya species. At least the adults of anteriorly flattened species are inferred to have lived extremely deeply buried in the sediment, and were hardly mobile. The smaller, more oval in shape, species were more mobile, and some of them are thought to have preferred life in shelters, should those be available. In addition, the function of the cruciform muscle, other than that considered so far, is suggested. Keywords: Pholadomya; Anomalodesmata; Bivalvia; life habit; deep burrowers; taphonomy; shell anatomy; cruciform muscle; Jurassic; Poland 1.

  • Ammoniten Aus Dem Unteren Bajocium Und Unteren Bathonium in Der Umgebung Von Ankara (Türkei)
125 | 155—169 N. Jb. Gcol. Paläont. Abh. A b strac t: A small Ammonite fauna proves the existence of lower Bajocian {discites-Subzone) in Central Anatolia. The described Ammonites belong to the genera Eudmetoceras, Erycites, Sonninia, Bradfordia, Docidoceras, Phylloceras and CalliphyUoceras. Erycites transiens n, sp. is an inter- csting species intermediate between Erycites and Docidoceras (by proterogenesis). Besides this, the existence of lower Bathonian as claimed in the older literature is ascertained by a species belonging to the genus Cadomites.

THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS PALEONTOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS May 15, 1970 Paper 47 SIGNIFICANCE OF SUTURES IN PHYLOGENY OF AMMONOIDEA JURGEN KULLMANN AND JOST WIEDMANN Universinit Tubingen, Germany ABSTRACT Because of their complex structure ammonoid sutures offer best possibilities for the recognition of homologies. Sutures comprise a set of individual elements, which may be changed during the course of ontogeny and phylogeny as a result of heterotopy, hetero- morphy, and heterochrony. By means of a morphogenetic symbol terminology, sutural formulas may be established which show the composition of adult sutures as well as their ontogenetic development. WEDEKIND ' S terminology system is preferred because it is the oldest and morphogenetically the most consequent, whereas RUZHENTSEV ' S system seems to be inadequate because of its usage of different symbols for homologous elements. WEDEKIND ' S system includes only five symbols: E (for external lobe), L (for lateral lobe), I (for internal lobe), A (for adventitious lobe), U (for umbilical lobe). Investigations on ontogenetic development show that all taxonomic groups of the entire superorder Ammonoidea can be compared one with another by means of their sutural development, expressed by their sutural formulas. Most of the higher and many of the lower taxa can be solely characterized and arranged in phylogenetic relationship by use of their sutural formulas. INTRODUCTION Today very few ammonoid workers doubt the (e.g., conch shape, sculpture, growth lines) rep- importance of sutures as indication of ammonoid resent less complicated structures; therefore, phylogeny. The considerable advances in our numerous homeomorphs restrict the usefulness of knowledge of ammonoid evolution during recent these features for phylogenetic investigations.
