PittStop Lindy Hop 2011 Directions to Dances Friday Evening, Saturday Afternoon & Evening Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall Parking: • Street parking: Must pay the meters until 6pm. • Parking lot underneath Soldiers and Sailors o Enter on Bigelow Blvd, on right side of building o No In/Out privileges o Parking has been extended until 1AM for PittStop both nights • Additional pay lots within 2-5 blocks North to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall • From I-79 south follow the signs and bear slightly left onto I-279 south. • Travel for 13 miles. Follow the signs for the Veteran’s bridge to exit #2A (#2B comes first). • Halfway across the bridge, move to the right lane follow the signs for I-376 to Monroeville • Follow this road for 1.3 miles to the exit 72A Forbes Ave Oakland. • Follow Forbes Ave for 1.8 miles (Eight lights). • Turn left on Bigelow Blvd, just before the Cathedral of Learning (Gothic Skyscraper), which will be in view on the left. • Travel one block and turn left onto 5 th Ave. Soldiers & Sailors is immediately on the right. The building is set back with a large lawn, canons, and staircase. South to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall • Traveling North on I-79 take exit #59A for I-279N/US 22E/US 30E. Travel through the Fort Pitt Tunnel for a total of 6.2 miles. Get in the right lane through the tunnel. • As you emerge from the tunnel, follow the signs for I-376 East Monroeville in the far right lane. • Travel East on I-376 for 2.1 miles to exit #72A Forbes Ave Oakland. • Follow Forbes Ave 1.8 miles (seven lights). • Turn left onto Bigelow Blvd, just before the Cathedral of Learning (Gothic Skyscraper), which will be in view on the left. • Travel one block and turn left onto 5 th Ave. Soldiers & Sailors is immediately on the right. The building is set back with a large lawn, canons, and staircase. East to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall • From the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76 east) take exit #57. After passing through the toll booth follow the signs for I-376 West Pittsburgh. • Travel I-376 west approximately 13 miles through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel to exit #73B Rt. 885 Oakland. • At the end of the ramp, turn right and drive .2 miles on Bates Street. At the light, turn left on the Boulevard of the Allies. • Quickly move to the right lane and drive to the next light (.1 miles). • Turn right onto Halket St. There is a Quality Inn University Center with Panera Bread on the corner. • Travel for .2 miles to Forbes Avenue. • Turn right onto Forbes Ave and travel 1.5 miles (six lights). The University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning (Gothic Skyscraper) will be in view on the left. • Turn left onto Bigelow Blvd, just before the Cathedral of Learning. • Travel one block and turn left on to 5 th Ave. Soldiers & Sailors is on your right. The building is set back with a large lawn, canons, and staircase. West to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall • Travel on I-376 east bound to the Fort Pitt tunnels. • Emerging from the tunnel follow the signs for I279 north across the fort Pitt Bridge. • Follow the signs for I-279 North across the Fort Duquesne Bridge (second bridge) • From I-279 N exit at #1D PA 28 Chestnut St • Stay in the right lane and follow the signs to Chestnut St. • Turn Right at the T. • A minute or so after making the right turn onto Chestnut, the road will turn into a bridge (16 th St Bridge). • Follow Chestnut St right across the 16 th Bridge. • Turn left on Liberty Avenue • Follow Liberty Ave to the second light Turn Left onto 25th St. (Turn right for parking) • The opera house is on the left at the corner of Liberty and 25 th . “Pittsburgh Opera House” is lit up and easy to spot from a distance Northeast to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall • From the Pennsylvania Turn Pike I-76 take exit #48 PA-28/Pittsburgh/New Kensington. • From the ramp travel ½ mile to Indianola Rd/PA-910 (four lights). Turn right on 910 N and travel for ½ mile to the entrance ramp for PA-28 South. • Once on PA-28 travel 5.9 miles south. As you pass exit #10 for RIDC Park get in the left hand lane and remain in that lane. Follow the signs for the Highland Park Bridge to exit #6 Aspinwall/PA-8. • Stay left onto ramp for Butler St/Allegheny River Boulevard. • Take first right (~ 0.3 miles) onto Washington Boulevard. • In 1.9 miles, Washington Boulevard becomes 5 th Ave. at the intersection with Penn Ave. • From the Penn Ave intersection, travel 2.5 miles and 5 th Ave. • Soldiers & Sailors is immediately on the right. The building is set back with a large lawn, canons, and staircase. Friday and Saturday Late Nights Pittsburgh Opera (Strip District Rehearsal Hall) Parking: • Street parking: Meters do not need fed after 6pm. • DO NOT PARK in the lot across the street from the hall. • DO NOT PARK illegally (regulations are strictly enforced, even late at night) Soldiers & Sailors to Pittsburgh Opera House • Head East on Forbes Avenue (just south of 5 th Ave) 3 - 5 blocks. • Turn Left onto Craig St. one block past St Nick’s. • Travel on Craig Street for 5 lights (approx 1 mile). • At the fifth light, continue straight and merge with Bigelow Blvd • Stay in the right lane and follow the signs for the Bloomfield Bridge. • Turn right at next light at the ramp to cross the Bloomfield Bridge. • Get in the left lane crossing the bridge. • At the end of the bridge make the hardest left possible onto Liberty Avenue. • Follow Liberty Ave six lights (approx 1.5 miles) to 25th street. • Turn Right onto 25th St. (Turn left for parking) • The opera house is on the left at the corner of Liberty and 25 th . “Pittsburgh Opera House” is lit up and easy to spot from a distance. North to the Pittsburgh Opera House • Follow I-79 south and follow signs to bear slightly left onto I-279 south. • Travel for 13 miles. Follow the signs for the Veteran’s bridge to exit #2A (2B comes first). • Halfway across the bridge, move to the right lane and follow the signs for I-376 to Monroeville. • Exit I-279 at #2A Veteran’s Bridge (2B comes first) • Cross the bridge in the right lane, and follow signs for Downtown exits 7 th Avenue. • Go one block past the stop sign to the next light at Grant St. • Turn right on Grant St. • Stay right through the next light and merge onto Liberty Avenue • Follow Liberty Avenue for three lights to 25th St. • Turn Left onto 25th St. (Turn right for parking). • The opera house is on the left at the corner of Liberty and 25 th . “Pittsburgh Opera House” is lit up and easy to spot from a distance. (Four lights). • Turn right on 910 N and travel for ½ mile to PA-28 South • Travel PA-28 south to the Highland Park Bridge to exit #6 on the left . • Cross the bridge in the right lane. • Exit the bridge and travel west on Butler Street for 17 lights (3.5 miles). • Pass through the light and merge with Penn Avenue right after the intersection with 34 th St. There is a World War statue/memorial on your left side. Basically, Butler becomes Penn Ave, just go straight on it. • Travel three blocks (two lights) and turn left on 31st St. • Travel two blocks and turn right at the T onto Liberty Avenue. • Travel two lights to 25th St. • Turn Right at the third light onto 25th Street (Turn left for parking). • The opera house is on the left at the corner of Liberty and 25 th . “Pittsburgh Opera House” is lit up and easy to spot from a distance. West to Pittsburgh Opera House • Travel on I-376 east bound to the Fort Pitt tunnels. • Emerging from the tunnel follow the signs for I-279 north across the fort Pitt Bridge. • Follow the signs for I-279 North across the Fort Duquesne Bridge (second bridge) • From I-279 N exit at #1D PA 28 Chestnut St • Stay in the right lane and follow the signs to Chestnut St. • Turn Right at the T. • A minute or so after making the right turn onto Chestnut, the road will turn into a bridge (16 th St Bridge).
