A goalless draw at home to Hoffenheim confirmed the Serbian champions' qualification for the round of 32 as runners-up to the team from Germany. Previous meetings • Crvena zvezda made home advantage count on Matchday 2 as they overwhelmed Liberec 5-1, two first-half goals from El Fardou Ben Nabouhane preceding three more after the interval from Milan Gajić, Aleksandar Katai and Diego Falcinelli. • The clubs have been paired together on one other occasion, in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup first round, Liberec winning both games (2-0 h, 2-1 a) to reach a European group stage for the first time. The Czech side have faced no other Serbian clubs in UEFA competition. • Crvena zvezda lost all of their first three UEFA matches in the Czech Republic but stopped the rot on their most recent visit, beating Sparta Praha 1-0 in the second leg of a 2017/18 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie to go through 3-0 on aggregate, Richmond Boakye scoring in both legs. Form guide Liberec • Liberec finished fifth in last season's Czech Liga and also reached the cup final, which they lost 2-1 to Sparta Praha. The league placing earned the club a return to UEFA competition after a three-season absence. • Having kicked off their 2020/21 UEFA Europa League campaign with away wins at Riteriai (5-1) and FCSB (2-0), Pavel Hoftych's side secured the club's fourth appearance in the competition's group stage by overcoming APOEL 1-0 at home in the play-offs. Liberec came through their group at the first attempt in 2013/14, finishing second behind eventual winners Sevilla before losing in the round of 32 to AZ Alkmaar, but failed to make further progress in both 2015/16 (third place) and 2016/17 (fourth). • Liberec have lost seven of their 12 home games in the UEFA Europa League proper, winning only three, the latest against Gent on Matchday 1 (1-0) making it two victories in a row before they went down to Hoffenheim on Matchday 4 (0-2). Crvena zvezda • The 2019/20 season brought Crvena zvezda their 30th national title, completing a hat-trick of Serbian Super Liga successes. The Belgrade giants also reached the UEFA Champions League group stage for the second successive season, again finishing in fourth place, behind Bayern, Tottenham Hotspur and Olympiacos. • The 1990/91 European champions' bid to return to the UEFA Champions League group stage this season under new head coach Dejan Stanković ended in the third qualifying round with a penalty shoot-out defeat in Cyprus against Omonoia, but a 2-1 win back in Nicosia against Ararat-Armenia in the UEFA Europa League play-offs ensured a fourth successive autumn of European group stage football. In 2017/18 Crvena zvezda reached the UEFA Europa League proper for the first time and finished runners-up in their group to Arsenal before losing to CSKA Moskva (0-0 h, 0-1 a) in the round of 32. • Crvena zvezda posted clean sheets in all three of their away fixtures in the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League group stage (W1 D2), but their next seven group games on the road, six in the UEFA Champions League plus the Matchday 1 fixture at Hoffenheim (0-2), all ended in defeat, with 29 goals conceded and just two scored, before a 2-0 win at Gent on Matchday 4. Links and trivia • Guélor Kanga's first spell at Crvena zvezda ended with a transfer to Sparta Praha in February 2018. In two and a half seasons there he scored 27 goals, the last a penalty in the 2019/20 Czech Cup final against Liberec that sealed Sparta's 2-1 win. • Liberec coach Hoftych was the sporting director of the Spartak Trnava side eliminated by Crvena zvezda in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round (1-1 a, 1-2 h). • Crvena zvezda coach Stanković captained Serbia to a 3-1 friendly victory against Czech Republic in Uherské Hradiště on 16 August 2006. It was the final international appearance of Czech football legend Pavel Nedvěd, with whom Stanković played for three seasons at Lazio, winning the Italian Serie A title in the second of them (1999/2000). • Crvena zvezda are one of six former European Cup winners in this season's UEFA Europa League group stage, the others being Benfica (Group D), PSV Eindhoven (E), Celtic and AC Milan (H), and Feyenoord (K). 4 FC Slovan Liberec - FK Crvena zvezda Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion U Nisy, Liberec 5 FC Slovan Liberec - FK Crvena zvezda Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion U Nisy, Liberec Team facts FC Slovan Liberec Formed: 1958 Nickname: Modrobílí (Blue and Whites) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Intertoto Cup: 2004 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 3 (2012) Czech Cup: 2 (2015) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2019/20: did not take part in UEFA competition 2018/19: did not take part in UEFA competition 2017/18: did not take part in UEFA competition 2016/17: group stage 2015/16: group stage 2014/15: third qualifying round 2013/14: round of 32 2012/13: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-0: Liberec v Dubnica 10/07/04, UEFA Intertoto Cup second round second leg • Biggest away win 1-5: Riteriai v Liberec 17/09/20, UEFA Europa League second qualifying round • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Liberec v Dinamo Bucureşti 27/08/09, UEFA Europa League play-off second leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Hoffenheim v Liberec 05/11/20, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 4-1 twice, most recently v Grasshoppers 23/11/06, group stage 3-0 three times, most recently v Qarabağ 24/11/16, group stage • Biggest away win 1-5: Riteriai v Liberec (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Liberec v Dinamo Bucureşti (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Hoffenheim v Liberec (see above) FK Crvena zvezda Formed: 1945 Nickname: Crveno-beli (Red-and-Whites) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • European Cup (1): 1991 • UEFA Cup: (1979) 6 FC Slovan Liberec - FK Crvena zvezda Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion U Nisy, Liberec • UEFA Super Cup: (1991) • European/South American Cup (1): 1991 Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 31 (2020) Yugoslavian/Serbian Cup: 24 (2012) Ten-year record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2019/20: UEFA Champions League group stage 2018/19:
