3 Theme: Koora, Mila, Yeyi

Koora, Mila, Yeyi are three Noongar words that refer to three different points of time. All three are as important individually as they are to each other.

Koora / Past encompasses our shared and individual histories, and celebration of milestones achieved.

Mila / Future is the sustainability of our people, in particular young people and our future generations.

Yeyi / Now is where we are as our current individual selves and as members of society.

This year’s theme places significance on paying attention to our histories and exploring our potential futures in order to understand what we can and should do right now.

Kadadjiny ngalang koora wer nidja mila wer ngalang koorliny yeyi.

Or, in other words…

Understand our pasts and futures, we can take action of the now.

29 Dandelion Tea Exhibition

Friday 17 April - Friday 24 April, 12pm - 1am The Moon Café

Dandelion Tea is an ongoing photography and interview project which began in late 2019. The project invites men of all backgrounds to unpack male identity and gender roles and explore what being a man needs to look like for a future free from violence. This is the first exhibition of photographs and interview excerpts from the project, featuring ten men from local communities and what a caring and compassionate masculinity looks like for them.

The Moon Café is open from 12pm until 1am Sundays to Thursdays; and 12pm until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Pulse Perspectives 2019

Saturday 18 April - Monday 24 August Art Gallery of WA

WA’s talented young artists are celebrated in this yearly showcase, gauging the pulse of young people who will influence, empower and shape the world we live in.

This year’s exhibition features 44 works by 2019 Year 12 Visual Arts graduates from 29 schools across Western Australia. The chosen works span a variety of subject matter and media, ranging from painting and drawing to sculpture, digital moving image, photography and textiles. Human impact on the environment, consumerism, identity and family are prominent themes and issues explored in this year’s Pulse Perspectives exhibition. Culture Juice – T-shirts Right Now

Saturday 18 April - Monday 24 August Art Gallery of WA

From art, music, politics, pop culture and sport – the show is set to explore key designs of the many T-shirt tribes who have embraced the social canvas of this streetwear staple.

T-shirts right now reveals a story of creativity and design across illustration, typography and photography and demonstrates the collective themes and uses of this unassuming design icon throughout the 20th-century.

This exhibition is organised by the Art Gallery of WA with Lead Curator Eddie Zammit, and Co-curator Lee Ingram.

As a final treat we will have live music by multilingual singer-songwriter STAV. and a band of WA’s best young musicians, to wrap up the night!

STAV.
