1984 Audi Sport National Rally 1984 Audi Sport National Rally After an extremely successful event in 1983 we at Audi are delighted to be returning to Wales as the sponsors of the 1984 Audi Sport National Rally and hopefully this year's event will attract the top international names that made the 1983 rally so exciting for both competitors and spectators alike. Based again in Aberystwyth, the Audi Sport National includes one or two different stages for competitors and also better spectator facilities for the tremendous number of people who now follow the Shell Oils/Autosport British Rally Championship of which our event is the final round of the 1984 series. The series which has this year seen an Audi Sport backed entry, the development Audi 80 Quattro driven by Darryl Weidner, as well as an ever increasing number of works backed entries from other manufacturers, who clearly recognise the importance and value of the championship, for development of both cars and drivers. Audi as technological leaders of the motor industry, originally saw rallying as the ideal proving ground for their products and a way to continue improvement of the Audi range. And the success of the turbocharged Audi Quattro over the past four years, has played an important part in the development of 4 wheel drive in the Audi range, which over the next few months will be available as an option throughout almost all the Audi model line up. The Audi National Rally as usual offers not only an exciting end to the British National Championship, but a traditional warm up to the combined RAC Rally, which uses many of the stages in the Audi and I hope this year's rally will provide the excitement and entertainments of last year's event despite equally traditional damp Welsh weather conditions. Audi Sport National Rally. Welcome to the Audi National Rally and our new sponsors for this the last round of the RAC Shell Oils/Autosport National Rally Championship. Once again the W'ton & South Staffs. Car Club Ltd have arranged a compact route for competitors using some 80 miles of tracks in the well known and renowned mid Wales Forestry Commission forests with the start and finish based at Aberystwyth. In addition to providing a fitting climax to what has been an excellent championship the organisers welcome prospective competitors to the Lombard RAC International Rally next month who will be using today to view some of the stages to be used on that event. We wish everyone a happy and enjoyable day and we look forward to seeing you at the prize giving. Officials of the Audi Sport National Rally. Spectators should note there is no parking space in the service area and they should use the side streets around the area subject to the usual Road Traffic regu ulations. The Rally is expected to finish around 4.30p.m. when the cars begin to arrive back in Aberystwyth and the leading five competitors will be scheduled to line up in their final positions for interviews close to the Shell Oils caravan parked opposite the Belle Vue Hotel. DO'S AND DONT'S - IMPORTANT Wolverhampton & South Staffs Car Club Ltd. wish to draw the attention of all visitors to the Audi Sport National Rally to the following notes which are printed for your guidance and the club hope you will be good enough to comply with them as the future of rallying depends very much on the responsible behaviour of spectators and competitors alike. Remember first of all that rally cars will often be reaching speeds in excess of 100mph and on forest surfaces, particularly in the wet, the margin of error is very small indeed. By following the simple rules set out you will be doing your bit to make the event safe and enjoyable for everyone. DO NOT— Stand in prohibited areas which are clearly marked. Stand on the outside of corner or piles of logs or anything else. Obstruct escape routes which are clearly marked. Stand in front of directional arrows or any signs helpful to competitors. Park your car where it will cause obstruction or annoyance. Stand in front of tree lines on stages. Use minor roads being used by rally traffic. Obstruct competitors and service crews at service areas. Cause annoyance by driving at high speed on public roads. Walk along stages when competitors are approaching. Pull down fences, gates, trees or anything else. PLEASE — Follow marshalls instructions — they are for your benefit. Keep children under supervision at all times. Keep dogs on a secure leash at all times. Drive carefully when leaving stages. Arrive early at spectator stages. Take your litter home with you when you leave. Remember to treat local residents with consideration and courtesy. FIGHT TO THE FINISH For the second year in succession the Audi National Rally has a special significane in the Shell Oils/Autosport RAC National Rally Championship for the outcome of the championship will not be known until the cars return to Aberystwyth this evening. The battle to hold the national title for the next 12 months is between three crews, all in different makes of car and whoever takes the crown will be a deserving champion for the Audi Sport National is one of the toughest in the series. Louise Aitken—Walker, the lass from Duns, has been the most consistent driver of the entire series and she starts the last event with a narrow five point lead in her R.E.D. Sierra Turbo development car which has been getting better all through the season. Behind her is Phil Collins, the extrovert Hereford star in his GM Dealersport supported Opel Manta who has won three of the eight events so far and only two points behind him and making a late bid for the title is the Haverfordwest farmer David Llewellin who will certainly not be short of support both during and after the event for it is rumoured the whole of Pembrokeshire is taking the day off to support the best Welsh hope for top honours for a few years. AWARDS The following is a list cf the awards to be won on today's event and they will be presented tonight at the Marine Hotel, Aberystwyth, at about 9.30pm. Quinton Motor Club Ltd Forewo rd This publication is the result of over two years of investigative research and subsequent communication with many past members of Quinton Motor Club. No formal record of the Club ’s history or its activities existed before this task was under taken. I would particularly like to acknowledge the involvement of the following: Mike & Hilary Stratton , who were the driving force behind the w hole project and have spent countless hours in research and communication with past members , far and wide, a s well as many long journeys from their home in Devon to meet with the rest of us in the Midlands. The other members of the organising committee for the fiftieth anniversary celebrations for their hospitality at meetings, contribution of ideas, research fo r memorabilia , general good humour and enthusiasm that this milestone should be fittingly celebrated (in alphabetical order): Ray Barlow, Susan Butcher, Mike Harris, Nick Jones & Graham Towns hend. This publication has only been made possible by people tur ning out cupboards, garages and lofts to unearth long forgotten gems regarding the Club and its history. Foremost in this is Mike Adams, who has been the major source of information in that he has not thrown ANYTHING away sinc e he joined the Club in the mi d -1970s. Three big cardboard boxes arrived at my house one day in the early Spring of 2008, Ginny was not hap py when they were returned just over a year later, she thought she had seen the last of them..!! Others, not on the organising committee, that h ave unearthed memorabilia are (in alphabetical order): Peter Bayliss, John Davi s, Steve Eagle, Peter Gray , Neil Henderson and finally Dave Bullock who attended the first meeting of the Club and whose recollections of the early years has enabled me to piece together the scant infor mation that still exists from fifty years ago..!! We all hope you enjoy this publication and that its contents makes you smile and brings back happy memories of your time in Quinton Motor Club .

  • Keep Welsh Eyes on Elfyn Evans, Says David Llewellin
www.wheelswithinwales.uk Keep Welsh eyes on Elfyn Evans, says David Llewellin Published: 19th October 2017 Author: Robin Roberts Online version: https://www.wheelswithinwales.uk/keep-welsh-eyes-on-elfyn-evans-says-david-llewellin/ Wales’s most successful rally driver, David Llewellin, is tipping his fellow countryman Elfyn Evans for great success and even an historic victory on Wales Rally GB 26-29 October. Although a number of Welsh co-drivers have won Britain’s classic round of the FIA World Rally Championship, no Welsh driver has ever stood on the podium let alone won their home event. Indeed, no British driver has triumphed since Colin McRae and Richard Burns racked up three wins apiece in the glory years between 1994-2000. Llewellin (above), a double British Rally Champion in 1989 and 1990, led the event briefly when competing for Toyota in 1989, but ultimately never finished higher than sixth. www.wheelswithinwales.uk Now aged 57 and living in his native Pembrokeshire, the former champ still avidly follows the sport and is one of a number of Welsh Rally Legends being honoured on this year’s Wales Rally GB. What’s more, he firmly believes that the country’s latest rallying star, Evans from Dolgellau, has what it takes to write the history books next week. “It would be fantastic to see Elfyn do it this year and I think he has a very good chance,” predicted Llewellin. “I’ve been watching him closely and he’s been improving over the last 18 months – he’s shown he’s one of the best in the world.

  • Chase Carey 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Starter
Chase Carey 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Starter On 23 January, when Liberty Media took over the Formula One Group, 62-year-old Chase Carey became the most powerful man in F1 Grand Prix Motor Racing. After graduating with an MBA from the prestigious Harvard Business School, Chase started at Fox Television in 1988 where he worked his way up to Chief Executive Officer. In the early 1990s, Carey demonstrated his astute negotiating skills when he persuaded Fox founder Rupert Murdoch to acquire the broadcasting rights for the National Football League (NFL) which, up to that point, had been televised by CBS. This proved to be a master stroke as it gave the network the impetus needed to challenge NBC, ABC and CBS. As a former rugby player during his university years and a fan of NFL franchise New York Giants, the all-round sports fan played a key role in launching Fox Sports Net in 1997. In June 2011, Murdoch put Carey in charge of the News Corporation media group. Two years later, he was appointed COO of Twenty-First Century Fox, before becoming executive co-chairman in 2015. He resigned the following year just as Liberty Media, owned by US telecommunications and cable magnate John Malone, entered talks with CVC Capital Partners with a view to buying out Formula One. In September 2016, Carey began negotiations in earnest before finalising the takeover in January 2017. Mark Webber 2017 Grand Marshal In 2017 Mark Webber will follow in the footsteps of Henri Pescarolo, Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Alexander Wurz as he has been appointed Grand Marshal for the 85th Le Mans 24 Hours.
