Cindy Needham Linen Ladies Workshop (Two Days) Friday - Saturday (May 15-16, 2020) Experience Level: Confident hand or machine quilter My passion is turning vintage linens into whole cloth quilts. I love being able to create something “new” out of something old. It seems that every one has a few old linens and laces tucked away that they just never know what to do with. I am offering this one-of-a-kind workshop to help you create your own unique heirloom. This is a fun and creative workshop and I guarantee that you will become an addict, as I have, creating these beautiful quilts. On the first day of the workshop I will teach you how to deal with stains and holes and give you special designing/basting/edging techniques. We will also discuss threads, batting, fabrics, etc. In addition detailed instruction will be provided on how to design both medallion and repetitive design whole cloth quilts. The second morning of the workshop will include lectures on the Ultimate Borders and Ultimate Backgrounds. I will also bring along my Heirloom Feathers lecture if there is interest in this topic. The afternoons of each day will be spent designing your whole cloth quilt. I will bring an assortment of stencils for you to use to mark your quilting designs. Your extensive class handbooks will be provided at no charge on a CD. I HIGHLY recommend that you bring a “sacrifice” linen for your first piece. This needs to be a piece that you can relax and learn on. I would hate for you to learn on your great-great-grandmother’s heirloom tablecloth! Supply List: Your sewing machine is not needed! You will spend your time designing and marking your tops which you will then take home to quilt. Quilt Marking Pens. Bring several. I am using the blue Mark-B-Gone and/or Frixion pens. Linens! The small embroidered tablecloths are perfect for whole cloth quilts. Dresser scarves, pillow cases, embroidered dinner napkins, tea towels, and hankies also work well. The sky is the limit...be creative and bring what you have and we’ll sort through and choose the perfect piece for you! Remember though, bring one to sacrifice to learn on! Fabric. If you have a linen that has open cut work or lace, you will need to add a layer of fabric underneath the linen to “plug the holes”. This is NOT required for class but I thought I would mention it as other students have have told me to add this to the supply list. It would simply be a solid fabric that complements the linen itself and will need to be larger than the linen. Again, NOT required for the class but an option only. If you don’t care to create a linen whole cloth quilt, you are more than welcome to bring “normal” yardage (light colored) and you can design and mark a regular whole cloth quilt, if you like! .
