The Mars Volta (US) 2007-11-21 13:53 CET The Mars Volta (US) 19 februari - Oslo, Sentrum 20 februari - Stockholm, Cirkus Om ditt inre ”bra- musik-alarm” inte går av när du ser namnen Omar Rodriguez-Lopez och Cedric Bixler-Zavala är du i gravt behov av en hälsokontroll. Det är nämligen de två genialiska männen som utgör The Mars Volta, världens kanske mest kreativt fulländade band. Rodriguez-Lopez skriver musiken och spelar gitarr och Bixler-Zavala skriver text och sjunger i det här exceptionella och egensinniga partnerskapet. 2002 släppte bandet sin första EP och sedan dess har man hunnit med allt det där vanliga som framgångsrika band gör, man turnerar, spelar in och genomlever det nödvändiga onda i mediekontakter men tillskillnad från andra projekt så urholkas inte The Mars Volta. För det som utgör särskiljningens logik i fallet Volta, är konceptualiseringen. Ja, du läste rätt. Dom gör konceptplattor, precis som alla dom där lite halv- pretentiösa banden på 70-talet älskade att göra. Första fullängdaren var en hyllning till Bixler-Zavala och Rodriguez-Lopez ungdomsårs mentor i El Paso, Texas. Deras hjälte Julio Venegas var en lokal konstnär som begick självmord 1996. På skivan, som heter ”De-Loused In The Comatorium” berättas om den fiktiva Cerpin Taxt som hamnar i koma efter ett misslyckat självmordsförsök och upplever mirakulösa händelser i sina drömmar. På platta nummer två fortsatte männen att arbeta efter sitt framgångsrecept. ”Frances the Mute” från 2005, berättar historien om Frances och protagonisten Cygnus i ett sci-fi- osande narrativ. Historien är inspirerad av texter ur en dagbok men var bara stoftet som sådde fröt till Bixler-Zavalas vilda fantasifoster. Tredje albumet ”Amputechture” från 2006, har till skillnad från de första två, inte ett enhetligt narrativ. Här dokumenteras istället skilda historier. På skivan trängs en rad små Mars Volteska universum i varje spår. The Mars Volta skriver sin egen historia. Med hjälp av vild fantasi, ohämmad kreativitet och en enorm skaparkraft präntar de ner sitt eget narrativ, ord för ord, not för not, med stegen ständigt styrda mot ännu ett drömskt, psykedeliskt och mörkt, lite besvärande och uppdiktat men smått genialiskt och helt unikt universum. I november 2007 släpptes första singeln ”Wax Simulacra” från kommande albumet ”The Bedlam in Goliath” som är planerat att hamna rakt i dina händer i slutet av januari 2008. Nuestro loado foro de Guitarramania.com siempre nos sorprende con nuevas noticias del mundillo, máxime teniendo un hilo de los TMV kilométrico que alberga numerosas noticias de esta banda supersónica. Anteriormente hemos tenido oportunidad de asistir a un concierto de The Mars Volta y ver a su nuevo batería en su puesto. Sin embargo no nos esperábamos una demostración de esta envergadura. Y es que nos ha sorprendido gratamente que Thomas Pridgen, batería de The Mars Volta, haya tenido la oportunidad de colgar un vídeo de estas características en la red. Una demostración de que la tecnología y el arte, la música e internet, se fusionan a diario para sorprendernos con nuevas iniciativas mediáticas. En esta ocasión se trata de un video de larga duración, donde podemos elegir qué cámara nos interesa más. La página en cuestión , con el link que os dejo a la demostración del mago Pridgen , que sin hacernos deja mucho boquiabiertos , trata los aspectos musicales, en este caso de la batería, desde un punto de vista plástico.
