I. INTRODUCTION

This Register will cover only Archival material including the Photograph files. Collections containing only art, artifacts or books are not included in this publication.

Major Collections are those one file drawer or more in size. They are designated by initials (example:. J. Evetts Haley = JEH).

Small Collections are less than one file drawer in size and are designated by call numbers (SC#3, etc.). Brief descriptions and inventories of Small Collections are included in this Register.

Photographs from all Collections are catalogued and a Browsing File for each will be found in the Library behind the Researchers Table

TOM AND EVELYN LINEBERY COLLECTION TEL Donated by Clynice Baker, May 2004 Three file Boxes Collection consists of various ranch and personal papers, video tapes, 8mm movie film, audio tapes, negatives and photo prints. A number of books and periodicals were transferred to the Library section.

DEWITT McCLELLEN LOCKMAN COLLECTION DML Papers, biographical files of artists, books, art. Sixteen file boxes, 20' Collection consists of Lockman's personal papers and the extensive files of The National Academy of Design. DELBERT MAURICE TANNER COLLECTION DMT The military records of Lt. Col. D.M. Tanner and the 124th Cavalry Regiment. The 124th was the last U.S. Cavalry unit to be dismounted. The collection contains many U.S. Army training manuals from 1920 through 1940. The history of the 124th in the last major battle in Burma is included. 25” of files Donated by Richard J. Roberts

TEXAS CONFEDERATE MUSEUM COLLECTION TCM The Texas Confederate Museum Collection is on loan from the Texas Division United Daughters of the Confederacy. It is made up of 37 smaller collections from various UDC Camps. It is housed in the vault. It contains scrapbooks, photographs, books, military records, music, publications and other material related to the participation of Texans in the Civil War. Loaned 7 Oct 2000

SC#5 - MARY WHITE BOYKIN COLLECTION Newspapers and other items. One wallet, 1" Consists of a number of newspapers from Waco, San Francisco, El Paso, Tombstone, and New York, 1873-1887. Also a pamphlet and menu from early El Paso. The Report of the Secretary of War, 1848, was transferred to the Library. Gift of Mary Boykin. Her father was Zack White, prominent pioneer of El Paso who owned Hotel Paso Del Norte, with daughters Mrs. Boykin and Mrs. Paul Harvey.

Gift of Dr. James Kimmins Greer (in 1983) of Waco, who was an historian and author/ editor of several books on history, including a biography of Jack Hays and the memoirs and biography of Buck Barry, Texas Ranger. Greer had a doctor of philosophy degree in history (U of Texas) and for 16 years was head of the history dept. at Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama.

SC #29 - THE ROBERT G. GOSS PAPERS Donor: Judge James Fitzgerald Box 1565, Midland, TX 79702, 915-682-3385

Consists of photocopies of some personal files and scrapbook material (including photographs) of Texas Ranger Robert G. Goss. It was first given to the J.E. Clark family of Shreveport and then to Judge Fitzgerald. The original material is being offered to the Texas Ranger Museum at Waco. It may be returned to us it they do not accept it. However these photocopies will be useful in following the career of Ranger Goss through several important events in the 1930’s such as the Houston Dock Strike of 1936, events in Kilgore in 1936-39, the London School Disaster in 1937 and other criminal cases.

Gift of Dr. James Kimmins Greer (in 1983) of Waco, who was an historian and author/ editor of several books on history, including a biography of Jack Hays and the memoirs and biography of Buck Barry, Texas Ranger. Greer had a doctor of philosophy degree in history (U of Texas) and for 16 years was head of the history dept. at Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama.

INVENTORY Ledgers (or "order books") from the Bob Marrs, Stockman's Saddle Shop, Amarillo, Texas. Ledger #1 covers the period from 13 Apr 1942 to 26 Dec 1945. Ledger #2 covers the period from 2 Jan 1946 to 17 Jul 1950. One letter from Betty Marrs, 25 Feb 1992. Bob Marrs began as a cowboy at the age of 15, working at ranches in Arizona, Texas, California and Oklahoma. He became, in 1951, a saddler in Amarillo, owning and operating the Stockman's Saddle Shop until retirement in 1992.

SC #24 - JOHN HENRY WILSON COLLECTION Books and papers 1 wallet, 2" Collection contains Wilson genealogical information, articles on Texas Rangers and several photos. Also a collection of 800 books (shelved within the general library). Gift of John H. Wilson, January 1981.

INVENTORY Material about the Wilson family, church minutes, Texas Rangers and a few misc. items. Ten photos of Texas Rangers were placed in the Photograph section of the JEH Collection (HH-91.1 to 91.10). The bulk of this Collection was a library of 800 books which were catalogued and placed in the general Library. Description: This Collection consists of photocopies of some personal files and scrapbook material (including photographs) of Texas Ranger Robert G. Goss. It was first given to the J.E. Clark family of Shreveport and then to Judge Fitzgerald. The original material is being offered to the Texas Ranger Museum at Waco. It may be returned to us it they do not accept it. However these photocopies will be useful in following the career of Range Goss through several important events in the 1930’s such as the Houston Dock Strike of 1936, events in Kilgore in 1936-39, the London School Disaster in 1937 and other criminal cases.

INVENTORY This album originated in the McKee family of Midland. It was inherited by Bob Staton, He loaned (11 Jun 2007) it to Barbara Tom Jowell and Bob Midkiff to identify the photographs. With is permission it was brought in by Bob Midkiff and donated to the Haley Library.

Letter enclosed: “Ms Barbara Tom, Please identify who you can before I arrive in July. Ethel McKee had two sisters, Mamie & Nola Kendricks & two brothers Alvis & Roy. Roy was in insurance, daughter Royce Ray (Farmington, NM) & Scott. Thanks, Bob S.”

The McKee siblings were : Ethel McKee, Mamie McKee, Nola McKee Kendricks, Alvis McKee and Roy McKee. They were an old Midland family with some connections to the Prestons and Midkiffs.

The album measures 9 ½ x 14 x 1 ½. The leather covers are hand-tooled with an Indian scene on the front. “Photographs” appears on the front and “Glove, Ariz.” on the back.

Thirty-six leaves. It contains 484 photographs, some are very small cutouts and others range up to 5x7. The average size is in the 3x4 range. A few photos have been removed and several pages have holes where photos were cut out of the album.

The pages have been photocopied to be numbered and the identified images listed. This is a veritable treasure trove of early Midland people and places.

SC #52 - Prosise Zebu Ranch A copy of Criador, a Zebu breeders magazine published in Mexico June 2009. The article "el Ganado Gyr" ("Gyr Cattle") is a brief history of the Zebu breed and was translated by Dr. Richard Brooks PhD, of Midland, Texas Photographs of the Ralph J. Prosise Ranch near Poteet. Prosise was a breeder of Zebu cattle and crossed them with Hereford. The photographs were taken by Jim Bradshaw Haley Library archivist. Brief genealogical information about Ralph Prosise. Various articles re: the Zebu breed.
