We dodged a bullet last round with news that Gary Ablett’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first thought. He’s now an outside chance to face Richmond this week, which would relieve the thousands of coaches that traded him in last round. Enjoy this week’s rave and good luck to everyone for the upcoming round. NO SIGN OF HOME SICKNESS GET READY TO POUNCE! It’s one thing to perform on your home deck, but to do it away from With most of us close to finalising our sides, it’s vital that we bring home as well is an added bonus. The Goalpost Padding presents: The 2018 Grand Final Stats Preview After a long season of football, everything is set to be decided at the MCG, when the West Coast Eagles and the Collingwood Magpies face off for the chance to immortalise themselves in the history books, and win themselves the ultimate glory. Being the football fans we are here at The Flag, we couldn’t let such a day go past without providing something of our own for it. So we have, with a 30-page booklet filled to the brim with all sorts of interesting, entertaining, yet ultimately frivolous statistics. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you reading this for helping support us - if all goes well, we aim to do this for a career when we’re older, and knowing that our work is going out there and being praised really lifts our spirits. Hopefully you all enjoy the game and find something cool in here. -Nick/Claire Fredriksson theflagsports.wordpress.com on Twitter as @NickTheStatsGuy Note: statistics based on the players involved in the match assume that there’s no change from the preliminary final squads, and so won’t include players added to the team. TALENT MANAGERS REPORT This season Gippsland Power won 6 games, lost 12, and finished 9th on the ladder. We had a slow start to the program losing our opening 7 games and 9 of our first 10. However we turned things around by winning 5 of our last 8 games including 4 of our last 5and improving markedly as the season progressed. The Club continues to successfully nurture Gippsland’s young football talent and we are delighted that xx of our players were taken in the Nov. 25 AFL National Draft. There will be sizeable player turnover again in 2017 with 22 of last year’s squad of 40 moving on. This year, together with Bendigo Pioneers, Gippsland Power were chosen as the first clubs in a pilot program to intergrate an U/18 girls TAC program on the same basis as the U/18 boys. The program has been set up to provide females with an elite pathway into the newly established AFL Womens League.
