Recording of Marcel Duchamp’S Armory Show
Recording of Marcel Duchamp’s Armory Show Lecture, 1963 [The following is the transcript of the talk Marcel Duchamp (Fig. 1A, 1B)gave on February 17th, 1963, on the occasion of the opening ceremonies of the 50th anniversary retrospective of the 1913 Armory Show (Munson-Williams-Procter Institute, Utica, NY, February 17th – March 31st; Armory of the 69th Regiment, NY, April 6th – 28th) Mr. Richard N. Miller was in attendance that day taping the Utica lecture. Its total length is 48:08. The following transcription by Taylor M. (Applause) Marcel Duchamp: (aside) It’s OK now, is it? Is it done? Can you hear me? Can you hear me now? Yes, I think so. I’ll have to put my glasses on. As you all know (feedback noise). My God. (laughter.)As you all know, the Armory Show was opened on February 17th, 1913, fifty years ago, to the day (Fig. 2A, 2B). As a result of this event, it is rewarding to realize that, in these last fifty years, the United States has collected, in its private collections and its museums, probably the greatest examples of modern art in the world today. It would be interesting, like in all revivals, to compare the reactions of the two different audiences, fifty years apart. -

The historic presentation drew critical acclaim across Europe and attracted some 370,000 visitors over the course of sixteen weeks, making it the fourth-highest-attended special exhibition in the Prado’s history. The exhibition marked the first time that the Clark’s entire Renoir collection was presented outside of Williamstown and initiated a cross-cultural collaboration between the two museums that will continue in 2014 when the Clark hosts an exhibition of Rubens, Velázquez, and other masterpieces from the Prado’s royal collections. • In March 2011, the Clark’s first international tour of eighty of the best of its nineteenth- century French paintings began with an exhibition at the Palazzo Reale in Milan that drew enthusiastic crowds and strong critical reviews. The exhibition then traveled to the Musée des impressionnismes in Giverny, where French audiences attended in record numbers to welcome these works to their country. The exhibition set new attendance records for the museum’s summer exhibition program. • The Clark’s educational outreach program for juvenile offenders, RAISE (Responding to Art Involves Self Expression), was honored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a Champions of Arts Education Advocacy Award for Outstanding Arts Collaborative in the field of Visual Arts. -
The Rutting Bull by Jerry Saltz New York April 24, 2011
New York Magazine April 24 2011 G AGOSIAN GALLERY The Rutting Bull An exhibition devoted to Picasso and a mistress-muse is soaked in sex. By Jerry Saltz All artwork 2011 estate of Pablo Picasso/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York ‘Picasso and Marie-Thérèse: L’Amour fou,” the rapturous, vagino-maniacal show of more than 80 Pablo Picasso works at Gagosian, is a love story. It tells a tale of a devouring monster, a goddess and doormat, frenzied sex, and abject cruelty. The woman of the show’s title is Marie-Thérèse Walter, called “the greatest sexual passion of Picasso’s life,” “endlessly submissive and willing,” the sumptuous voluptuary who surrendered to his sadomasochistic demands. He himself once called her “a slice of melon,” and she said of herself, “I always cried with Picasso. I bowed my head in front of him.” “L’Amour fou” was curated by John Richardson and Diana Widmaier Picasso, granddaughter of the artist and Marie-Thérèse. Widmaier Picasso once told a British paper that her grandmother talked of their “secrets,” some of which have been widely reported. Richardson (in his acclaimed three-part Picasso biography) says that Picasso enjoyed “the perverse pleasure of denying [Walter] the release of orgasm.” Yet Walter herself rhapsodized, many years later, that sex with Picasso was “completely fulfilling,” describing him as “very virile.” For decades, no one knew of Walter or that she was Picasso’s mistress from 1927 until around 1937. Not only was she his submissive sexual conquest, artistic muse, psychic victim, and mother of his daughter; she’s the fleshy subject of some of his juiciest paintings. -

Boisgeloup, L'atelier Normand De Picasso
DOSSIER DE PRESSE UNE SAISON PICASSO ROUEN 1ER AVRIL / 11 SEPTEMBRE 2017 MUSÉE DES BEAUX-ARTS Boisgeloup, l’atelier normand de Picasso saisonpicassorouen.fr / ticketmaster.fr PICASSO, CE NORMAND…
