By: Elle Meyers Posted at 7:04 PM, Jul 13, 2021 and last updated 7:04 PM, Jul 13, 2021 LANSING, Mich. — Eligible Michigan families with children will receive payments directly to their bank accounts starting this week as part of the expanded child tax credit from the federal government, which was prompted by the economic effects of he pandemic. Experts estimate this will cut child poverty by nearly half, a move the United States has never seen before. “These will be monthly payments to families that will show up in their bank accounts based on the number of children they have and their income level," said Matt Gillard who serves as president and CEO of Michigan's Children, a Lansing based advocacy group. Families across mid-Michigan will be eligible for up to $300 per month, per child. Recent Stories from fox47news.com ' “The credits vary depending upon the age of the child and they vary as well based on the family income but they are designed in a way to truly benefit families on a monthly basis to meet the high costs that they’re incurring in raising children, he said." Families making up to $150,000 a year and single parents making up to $112,500 per year are eligible for the monthly payments. -
Muppet War of the Worlds
Parody Only DISNEY'S THE MUPPET'S JEFF WAYNE'S WAR OF THE WORLDS Written by Ceinwen Langley With words straight up lifted from Jeff Wayne DISCLAIMER: The writer does not own any of the licensed characters featured in this script, and would very much like not to be sued. EXT. SPACE - NIGHT Stars glint at us from a magnificent expanse of space. A large RED STAR pulses, beautiful and ominous. GONZO (V.O.) ParodyNo one would have b eliOnlyeved in the last years of the nineteenth century that human affairs were being watched by intelligences that inhabited the timeless worlds of space. We pan across the universe to another STAR. It twinkles merrily, tinged a hopeful blue. GONZO (V.O.) No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes. And slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us. Music: The Eve of the War begins with a bang, iconic strings hitting us like a punch to the gut. The stars glitter in time with the beat. TITLE CARD: DISNEY’S THE MUPPETS’ JEFF WAYNE’S WAR OF THE WORLDS We race across the gulf of space towards the BLUE STAR as the opening credits roll. The BLUE STAR loses its glow, revealing itself to be the most precious jewel in the galaxy: EARTH. -

Spring2014 • Volume23 • Number1 Welcome Home
spring2014 • Volume23 • Number1 welcOme home. Shrouded in darkness, concealed with caution tape and faintly smelling of commercial-grade latex, my workspace on a recent morning had all the makings of a crime scene investigation, minus the actual crime. (Seems the ridicule of an innocent man on the occasion of his 40th birthday is still legal in this country.) Picture the children’s-play-area ball pit at your local pizza joint or fast-food establishment, only with more insults and (slightly) less bacteria. “Friends” had engulfed my desk in a sea of black balloons, each emblazoned with a different dig from a clever co-worker. Excavating the area like a young Indiana Jones, I read everything from “our interns were born when you were in high school” to “you know you’re 40 when someone offers you a seat on the monorail…and you don’t refuse.” While I may have been surprised (and, truth be told, delighted) by the extremity of the effort, I wasn’t surprised by the effort itself. Having now been part of the Disney Vacation Club Cast family for the better part of a decade, I know how much this team loves to celebrate. From births to birthdays, awards to anniversaries, changes in our community to changes in humidity, rare is the month that doesn’t bring cause for celebration. We’re even headquartered in a town called Celebration. Our passion for celebrating what – and who – we appreciate should come in quite handy this year, as Disney Vacation Club rolls out Membership Magic, a vibrant array of Membership enhancements, exclusive experiences and special offers.
