Guide, Filler Metal Selector: Stainless Steel SUGGESTIONS FOR WELDING STAINLESS STEEL (CONTINUED) TIG Welding SUGGESTIONS FOR WELDING SOLID STAINLESSS STEEL CUT LENGTHS In TIG welding, the arc is struck between the work MIG Welding STAINLESS STEEL (START) & SPOOLED WIRES piece and the non-consumable tungsten electrode. Gas-Metal-Arc welding is generally called MIG MIG welding doesn't need expensive machinery, and The consumable wire is melted in the arc (metal inert gas) welding. In this process, the the welding machines are easily transportable, making atmosphere and the inert-gases like Argon or consumable wire travels through a nozzle and a this process very popular on construction sites. In MIG Helium or their mixture are used as shielding tip before it strikes an arc with the work piece, welding, shielding gas, welding parameters, and the gases. TIG is extremely suited to join thin sheets, The arc atmosphere is shielded by gases like: consumable assume an important role. Shielding tubes, and making root pass welding in pipes, since • 100% argon gases are chosen taking quality, cost, and operability the heat input in this process is minimal. TIG welds into consideration. do not cause any undercuts or excessive • 99% argon with I% oxygen In the case of welding with flux cored wires, 100% CO penetration and the distortion is lowest compared to • 97% argon with 3% carbon dioxide. 2 and 75% Argon + 25% CO are used as shielding any other welding process. TIG welds offer 2 MIG welding is a high-productivity process. gases. superior quality, but result in low productivity. Nr. 1.4845 A Multi-Purpose Austenitic Heat Resistant Stainless Steel with Oxidation Resistance Under Mildly Cyclic Conditions to 2010°F (1100°C) Alloy 310 (UNS S31000) is an Applications austenitic stainless steel developed • Cryogenic Components for use in high temperature corrosion resistant applications. The • Food Processing alloy resists oxidation up to 2010°F • Furnaces — burners, doors, fans, piping and recuperators (1100°C) under mildly cyclic • Fluidized Bed Furnaces — coal combustors, grids, piping, wind boxes conditions. • Ore Processing/Steel Plants — smelter and steel melting equipment, Because of its high chromium continuous casting equipment and moderate nickel content, Alloy 310 is resistant to sulfidation and • Petroleum Refining — catalytic recovery systems, flares, recuperators, tube can also be used in moderately hangers carburizing atmospheres. The more • Power Generation — coal gasifier internals, pulverized coal burners, tube severe carburizing atmospheres of hangers thermal process equipment usually • Sintering/Cement Plants — burners, burner shields, feeding and require nickel alloys such as 330 discharging systems, wind boxes (UNS N08330). Alloy 310 can be utilized in slightly oxidizing, • Thermal Processing — annealing covers and boxes, burner grids, doors, nitriding, cementing and thermal fans, muffles and retorts, recuperators, walking beams cycling applications, albeit, the maximum service temperature must be reduced. Alloy 310 also finds Chemical Analysis usage in cryogenic applications with Weight % (all values are maximum unless a range is otherwise indicated) low magnetic permeability and Element 310 310S 310H toughness down to -450°F (-268°C). • The Cambridge Companion to Age of Constantine.Pdf
The Cambridge Companion to THE AGE OF CONSTANTINE S The Cambridge Companion to the Age of Constantine offers students a com- prehensive one-volume introduction to this pivotal emperor and his times. Richly illustrated and designed as a readable survey accessible to all audiences, it also achieves a level of scholarly sophistication and a freshness of interpretation that will be welcomed by the experts. The volume is divided into five sections that examine political history, reli- gion, social and economic history, art, and foreign relations during the reign of Constantine, a ruler who gains in importance because he steered the Roman Empire on a course parallel with his own personal develop- ment. Each chapter examines the intimate interplay between emperor and empire and between a powerful personality and his world. Collec- tively, the chapters show how both were mutually affected in ways that shaped the world of late antiquity and even affect our own world today. Noel Lenski is Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Colorado, Boulder. A specialist in the history of late antiquity, he is the author of numerous articles on military, political, cultural, and social history and the monograph Failure of Empire: Valens and the Roman State in the Fourth Century ad. Hallock To my parents for their endless love and support ii Acknowledgements I would like to thank Rackham Graduate School and the Departments of Classics and History for providing me with the resources and support that made my time as a graduate student comfortable and enjoyable. I would also like to express my gratitude to the professors of these departments who made themselves and their expertise abundantly available. Their mentoring and guidance proved invaluable and have shaped my approach to solving the problems of the past. I am an immensely better thinker and teacher through their efforts. I would also like to express my appreciation to my committee, whose diligence and attention made this project possible. I will be forever in their debt for the time they committed to reading and discussing my work. I would particularly like to thank my chair, David Potter, who has acted as a mentor and guide throughout my time at Michigan and has had the greatest role in making me the scholar that I am today. Finally, I would like to thank my wife, Andrea, who has been and will always be my greatest interlocutor.

  • Eusebius on Constantine: Truth and Hagiography at the Milvian Bridge
JETS 55/4 (2012) 773–92 EUSEBIUS ON CONSTANTINE: TRUTH AND HAGIOGRAPHY AT THE MILVIAN BRIDGE * BRYAN M. LITFIN Few figures from the Late Antique pEriod haVE rEcEiVEd as much scholarlY scrutiny as Constantine the Great. Who might rival him? In the field of earlY Chris- tian studiEs, St. Augustine certainly has recEiVEd amplE treatmEnt, and thE bibliog- raphy on him is enormous. Yet those who study the bishop of Hippo do so primar- ily from one angle: the power of his ideas, whEthEr philosophical or thEological. To be sure, he is “set against his background,” yet it is not mainly Roman historians but patristic scholars who find AugustinE interesting. Constantine, on the othEr hand, did not just live within history; hE madE it. MorE than any of the Church fa- thers (as influEntial as they oftEn werE), the “first Christian emperor” was in a posi- tion to change the course of human affairs. As such, he has been the object of in- tense scholarly investigation, not only by theologians, but also classicists, numisma- tists, and historians of antiquity, art, and warfarE—pEoplE who usuallY carE vErY little about the differencE bEtween a Homoousian and a Homoiousian. Perhaps no moment in Constantine’s life is morE deeply Etched in modern consciousness than the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in AD 312.1 There are many reasons for this, most of which stem from the impact it had on the Christian church. YEt those who lived in the fourth cEntury saw the battle as just one in a list of imperial victories—and not nEcEssarilY thE most significant of thEm.
