The deck is finished and in full use. What a difference adding a couple of feet makes. The deck seems so much bigger. It was put to good use last Sunday when the Hensleys and friends enjoyed an elegant brunch on the deck hosted by the Amundsens, Barrs, Purvises and Chuck Stucky and Donna Eng. Gil and Linda won the brunch at the Hot August Nights Event!

On to our Cruises/Cruising. This year's Blue Water Cruise had to be cancelled. We had a good bunch of folks signed up and ready to go. But then, business and health conflicts occurred for each and forced cancellation. Maybe next year with the Wambachs. I hear Tomales Bay is lovely in the late Spring.

With the America's Cup races in the Bay, I am glad I took the suggestion of the Angel Island Rangers and postponed our annual Picnic Cruise. Remember, Sunday, October 27 is the new date for our Angel Island Picnic Cruise. This has been an annual MYC event since 1984. Again, we have the Platform Site reserved; this site is on the bluff with a terrific vista over Ayala Cove; it's a good walk from the docks, but our site is relatively flat, has good shade, and is close to the bathrooms. Tides are good all day; the high is at 0739 hours; the low, which is not significant, is at 1312 hours; with another high at 1826 hours. The first boats arriving will save dock space for others and transport food and drink to the Platform Site. So, sign up! Talk to your dock neighbors to arrange passage. Call other members and invite them too! Remember Sunday, October 27!

There are several upcoming planned cruises: The Five Club Cruise to the Delta 10/7 - 10/13 (Captain Kathleen Barr). Oakland YC 11/15 - 11/17 (Captain Bruce Rubin) Parade of Lights - 12/8 (MYC, Loch Lomond and San Rafael YC)

The Salmon seem to have moved upriver now. Salmon fishing on the ocean has been spotty at best. If you end up in the right place at the right time, there are still some big fish to be caught between now and early November. This year's season was an unusually early one. The fishing between April and July was absolutely incredible. Now we're getting our traps ready for the upcoming crab season. Several of us are still hoping for another shot at Albacore Tuna, too. I only went on one outing for Albacore this year, but three of us landed about 25 fish that day. I slept like a rock that night!

Speaking of fishing, some of you may recall a grass-roots event last year on the last day of Salmon Season. Several MYC boats ventured out onto the ocean in search of Salmon, Rockfish, Lingcod, and Dungeness Crab. A good Respectfully, friend of ours named George spent several days preparing a Cioppino base in anticipation of a hearty catch. We Gary M. Root, Port Captain ended up catching all of the above, getting back to the dock at about 1700, and firing up a colleciton of propane burners. We boiled the crab and pan-fried the fish. The wine was flowing, the tunes were cranking, and the bread was sopping up the delicious broth until well after dark. You could hear the laughter from points far away.
