I was born and raised in , to two Persian parents. As a first-generation Persian- American, I was forced to juggle conflicting cultures, to balance a conservative Persian upbringing while living in a freethinking American society. Dealing with culture lines have helped me develop as a person, and have laid the foundation for who I am today. As I have grown older, I have jumped at the opportunities to branch out and meet new people. In high school, I volunteered at a local Alzheimer’s assisted living center where I become close with many people with whom I would not ordinarily come in contact. Also, became involved with a nature/recycling center. To this day, I make sure to go back and get some time in with all the people I met at these places. College has afforded even more opportunity for me to grow and develop as a person. I have, with the help of a fellow student, begun to organize and establish a new student organization: the Persian Student Association. Also, I have gotten involved with the Banking and Finance Society, Watchdawgs, and the Economics Society. Looking back, I am more and more grateful for my experiences with two extremely different cultures. I value aspects of both cultures that many people take for granted, because I have perspective from both sides. Although my experience with biculturalism may have been trying, I would never wish for them to be different, as they have collectively helped me become the person I am today.

I have lived in and around Georgia since. I attended in Lilburn Georgia. I was actively involved in my high school doing a number of things. One of the most rewarding for me was a tutoring program that involved elementary children from local elementary schools. Four years later, I decided to attend college at the . I quickly became very involved at the University. I have been involved with several student organizations on campus. My most active role on campus was that of a CLASS Advocate in Reed Hall. This was a challenging and rewarding position for me. Another opportunity that I was priveledged to have included attending LeaderShape Institute. This was something that I wish every student at the University could do. My work experience includes several internships. I worked for Office Depot for two years. One year in their Business Services Division, the other year in the retail store. I then worked with IBM for a summer and I will be returning to work for them this summer. I grew up in Birmingham, AL with my older sister Jennifer, my younger brother Jonathan, and my parents. While I always played outside with my friends in the neighborhood, I also played soccer, , and for the local recreation league, and I attended a Catholic grammar school from kindergarten until the 8th grade. After graduating with a class of 22, I headed off to John Carroll Catholic High School where I had about 250 people in my class. Those years were filled with playing Varsity basketball and helping my team win a state championship in soccer. While these experiences were great, I learned even more from coaching my younger brother’s 7th grade and 8th grade basketball teams. Along with this memorable experience, one of the greatest events of my life occurred when I was a counselor for a weeklong Muscular Dystrophy Association Camp the summer after my sophomore year. During that week, I was basically the “arms and legs” of a child named John who was suffering from a muscular dystrophy disease called Duchenne. After 4 years of being his counselor and developing a friendship, he has taught me how to be a true servant, and through this experience, I have come to a relationship with God and learned how to truly embrace life. While I left my home state to come to UGA, I carried these amazing experiences with me. God has blessed me with some amazing relationships in the past two years and has provided me with various opportunities to learn and grow. After immersing myself in college life and trying out various organizations and activities, I have since learned to focus in on my passions and do the things that are most important to me.

Growing up in Marietta, GA, I found a wealth of activities and inspirations which helped mold me into the productive member of society that I strive to be. Of course, my family has been the greatest influence, and they’ve always encouraged my many endeavors. I was lucky enough to have teachers throughout my elementary, middle, and high school years who encouraged my roles in leadership positions. That encouragement, along with a charming personality and a campaign financed by big business, helped me achieve status as president of the Student Council in elementary school. In my three year tenure as class president in high school, I developed a Medicare package for graduating seniors (okay, not really – but I gained good leadership experience for college). I have participated in a variety of athletics, including football, wrestling, track, weight lifting and baseball. Both the sports themselves and my coaches taught me invaluable life lessons: loyalty, teamwork, and always wear a helmet. My love affair with rock n’ roll has led me to pursue a career in the music industry through the Terry College of Business. On campus, I am a member of Hillel (Campus Center for Jewish Life), University Union, and Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

Ben Brown

I have enjoyed a very interesting and exciting life thus far. I was raised on a farm in Villa Rica, a small town located in West Georgia. My childhood was never boring with two other brothers and plenty of land and nature to explore. During my middle school years, I changed schools and began attending Oak Mountain Academy, a small private school; so small that my graduating class had only 12 people. Going to a small school, I had a very unique opportunity form very close, personal bonds with all those around me, which still last until this day. I was surrounded with affection and I believe that has helped mold my very positive outlook on life. When it came time to choose a college, I wanted two things: a big school with lots of people and small classes. When I was accepted into the Honors Program here at UGA, it was the perfect fit. It took me a semester or so to adjust to the huge change that I had made, but now I feel right at home. I have enjoyed the seemingly endless opportunities that have arisen for me and I take full advantage of all of them. After I complete my undergraduate degree I have plans to attend law school.

I am from Atlanta, GA and attended Marist High School. I played football and also enjoyed outdoor sports such as hunting, fishing and skiing. One of my greatest accomplishments in life was getting accepted at UGA. I grew up around UGA football and as a child heard many great UGA stories from parents, cousins, aunts and uncles. Attending UGA was a goal that I decided to pursue early in my high school career. Accomplishing this goal took hard work that taught me many lessons about life and much about myself. As a student, I am very involved in my fraternity, Theta Chi. I hope to leave it a better place once I graduate and am doing everything that I can to ensure the success of the fraternity’s future. I feel indebted to my fraternity for the opportunities that it has offered me to become involved in the University and Athens community. I also believe that academic scholarship is important for a successful college experience. I feel that, like anything else, studying takes practice and is a skill to be learned. I also feel that I try to balance my life between the academic, athletic, religious and social aspects. I am currently a real estate major and plan to double major in finance. I plan to pursue an investment banking job when I graduate.

After spending the majority of my childhood in Buffalo, NY, my family and I relocated to Tuscaloosa, AL in time for seventh grade. My experience is Tuscaloosa was unique as I discovered everything from eating grits to saying “ya’ll.” As I approached my sophomore year of high school, we moved 60 miles north to Birmingham, where my parents currently live. Throughout high school, I concentrated most of my energy on sports, playing hockey and soccer. When I was old enough to walk, I began playing hockey. Although not as recognized as in , does exist in Alabama; and I was actually able to play for my high school during my senior year when a new league developed. I enjoyed my time in Alabama, but I now consider Athens my hometown. My experience thus far at UGA has been exciting and rewarding. In the spring of my freshman year, I began working with Relay for Life. Since then, my involvement in Relay has grown, and I am increasingly motivated to donate my time and efforts to raise money for finding a cure for cancer, as well as helping those who battle such a horrible disease. At age two I moved to the city of seven hills, Rome, Georgia, where my family has resided ever since. As I grew older, I continually received the blessings of a great family life and a supportive church home, First Baptist Church. Athletics were always important, and each new season brought about a different sport. In high school I chose to play soccer and kick field goals for the football team. The Boy Scouts of America provided indispensable development, and a better understanding of character and true leadership. Today, looking back, my family, church body, lessons from athletics and the boy scouts, and relationships made throughout, continue to motivate me in my growth and inveterate learning process. College has provided a balance of opportunities and experiences including involvement in a social fraternity, Campus Crusade for Christ, Student Government, Dean Tate Society, Leadership Development Programs, and most recently, the Arch Society, all of which have confirmed the significance of service. For the past two summers I have worked in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room. Each day was a humbling experience, putting life in perspective. I have lived in the Atlanta metro area my entire life. I have a twin brother, Richard, who attends the University of Georgia with me, and a 7-year old sister. Family has always been important to me. My parents and grandparents taught me to take advantage of every opportunity and not let anything pass me by. Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is an accomplishment I pride myself on. Through the Boy Scouts of America, I was able to develop myself not only as a leader, but as a man. The Boy Scouts of America allowed me to develop character, integrity, and morals. I volunteer with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Building a home for a deserving family makes me realize how blessed I am and how easy it is to change a family’s life. In my spare time, I enjoy playing racquetball, climbing, taking weekend trips with my friends, and attending Bulldog sporting events. My faith, family, friends, future, and community are most important to me. I moved to Athens, Georgia at the age of 17 to start college right before the New Year was ushered in. Being from Nigeria with no family except a sister in the United States, the new year brought in a lot of experiences and changes which were challenging to go through alone. In high school I preferred to be the person that got things done but was never seen. I kept the Literary and Arts Society up and running by taking up the secretarial position and I also kept the school library efficient by becoming the library prefect. The skills and experience I developed from these positions in addition to the manner in which my parents brought me up were very useful in helping me to adapt and excel in a new environment. However, I soon learned that my family and past experiences would not be enough to keep me motivated and focused in college. I discovered numerous opportunities in college, and I became involved in various honors societies, the African Students Union, the Economics Society, and the Cinematic Arts division of the University Union among others. My involvement in these organizations proved to be the missing link in my college life, and it has helped to keep me motivated and happy because not only am I participating in things I enjoy but I am also giving back to the community. I am majoring in Economics and working towards a Masters Degree.

Major: Economics

I was born in , Indiana, where I lived close to family and friends during my childhood. At the age of 10, my family and I picked up and moved to Houston, Texas, where I learned how to start over again and rely on my immediate family for support. At the age of 15 we moved again to Alpharetta, Georgia. I attended Wesleyan School for high school and decided to go out for three sports: cross country, basketball, and soccer. Being a part of these teams provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow as a leader. By my senior year, I was named captain of all three teams. I attended a bible study that one of my coaches led my junior and senior years. This presented me with my first glimpse into becoming a part of a church body. At the end of my high school career, I was presented with the Atlanta Journal Cup Award, given to the school’s most outstanding senior, and was nominated for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award, an honor given to the school’s top two scholar athletes. Though my skills have not allowed me to continue leading on the athletics field, I have continued to utilize my leadership skills through other means at the University of Georgia. I have had the great fortune of serving on a campus ministry leadership team and have recently been named an Athens area Young Life leader at Cedar Shoals High School. Throughout my life my parents have given me unwavering love and support, something for which I can never truly repay them. I can only hope to show my gratitude by living a life in which I stay true to myself and try to touch others as my parents have touched me.

My family moved from Charleston, South Carolina to Douglasville, Georgia when I was four. Up until 4th grade, I was home schooled by my mother. I truly enjoyed this experience but decided to go to “big school” for the social aspect more than anything. In 1999, I graduated as valedictorian from Lithia Springs High School. Always longing to be a Bulldawg, I entered the University that fall. From the minute I came to UGA, I fell in love with it and all that it has to offer. Over the years, I have become involved many organizations, including my sorority, Delta Zeta, numerous honor societies, philanthropy events, and volunteerism. Born and raised in Atlanta, I am the youngest of three girls. My family is a close one, whose support has always provided me the foundation from which to learn, explore and experience the many opportunities available to me. Throughout my youth, I participated in church and community volunteer activities. While I have engaged in numerous programs to help others, perhaps my greatest devotion has been working with the handicapped children in a therapeutic riding program and tutoring disadvantaged students. These opportunities have enabled me to grow and develop as a person. I was born and spent most of my life in Jacksonville, Florida, though I have never been a fan of the Florida Gators. I grew up a Georgia Bulldog and being an only child I did not want to follow the rest of high school to UF, so I decided to branch out and head to the school I had grown up loving, the University of Georgia. My greatest passion in life is without a doubt, politics and I hope some day to become an elected official. In high school I was Student Body President and it was in this role where I really began to see my leadership skills grow. Since then, I have continued to pursue positions of leadership and continue to learn as much as I can about the power of servant-leadership. Here at the University I have put what I have learned to good use by first being elected Vice- Chairman of the wonderful Creswell Hall and this year being elected to Chairman of the UGA College Republicans, which is the largest CR chapter in the country. I also now serve as the North Georgia Director for Youth for Bush and I continue to keep close to Creswell by working as a Desk Assistant. I also am involved with the Baptist Student Union and have just recently accepted an internship offer from Phillip Morris U.S.A. for this summer. I am working towards a dual-degree in Risk Management and Insurance and Political Science and I hope to return to UGA for my masters.

I was born in Los Angeles, California but moved to Jonesboro, Georgia at the age of five. The fact that both my parents are from Colombia has been an important part of my upbringing. I have had the opportunity to spend two months of every year since I was five in Colombia. This has exposed me to the cultural differences between life in Colombia and life in the US, has taught me to communicate in Spanish, and most importantly showed me the global business environment from a different perspective. The educational experience I have received by traveling to a different country has interested me in the international business environment. I am currently pursuing a major in international business and a minor in Spanish. In my spare time away from school, I enjoy working at Gap and playing soccer. Both have allowed me the opportunity to travel and learn from different people. I am very excited to be a part of this program because of the challenges and opportunities I will encounter working with such a group of talented individuals.

I grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia with my parents, older sister, and younger brother. I also have many relatives that live in the Atlanta area and they play a large role in my life. I attended Chamblee High School and formed many close relationships there that I still have today. Chamblee also had a very diverse population teaching me the importance of learning about different cultures. In high school I participated in many activities and held various leadership positions including ones in Student Government and the newspaper staff. Coming to the University has taught me many things in and outside of the classroom. I have enjoyed learning from my professors and also from my fellow peers. As a third generation University of Georgia student, my blood runs red and black. I was once told that had I been a boy, I would have been named after Georgia football star Hershel Walker! I am proud to be a student in the Terry College of Business and have enjoyed many of the opportunities presented at this university. Thus far, my favorite activities have been the Terry at Oxford Program, Honors Program Peer Advising, and of course, the Leonard Leadership Scholars Program! I have been learning American Sign Language since my senior year in high school and been involved in an Athens based Deaf Awareness Group for the past three years. My largest responsibility with this group is serving as a staff member for our annual Camp D.O.V.E. The camp is designed for deaf and hard of hearing children. My duties have included working as registrar, preparing financial statements, and establishing the camp’s budget. This fall, much of my time will be devoted to preparation for the second actuarial exam. I look forward to working in this field and would like to eventually earn a PhD and teach. In my spare time, I enjoy running, kickboxing, reading, and cheering on the Bulldogs.

I was born and raised a “Hoosier” on a farm in Bloomington, Indiana. My parents both attended Indiana University and bought a farm about 15 miles from campus. I attended Edgewood High School and played tennis, basketball, and track. I currently hold the school record for the 4x800 meter relay which I set my junior year. I wanted to attend college somewhere other than Indiana University and decided that the SEC was my calling. I applied and got accepted at UGA, Florida, UK, and UT, but found UGA to be the perfect fit for my college experience. Upon graduating from high school, I realized that I wanted to become as connected with the University as possible since I traveled such a great distance without knowing a soul. Through a mutual friend, I applied for the job as a Student Assistant for the Men’s Basketball team at UGA. For the past two years I have worked for Coach Harrick and traveled with the team across the country. Despite the ending to the 2002-03 season, it has been an incredible experience and changed my outlook on life, school, business, and relationships. I am currently working with Coach Felton and the new coaching staff but am unsure if I will continue next season. I am working hard as a Management Information Systems major and plan to attempt a double major in MIS and Real Estate.

I moved to Marietta, Georgia from Winston Salem, North Carolina when I was five years old. Growing up in the same neighborhood for most of my life, I have had the opportunity to form friendships with people that have grown with me and experienced everything by my side throughout the past 15 years. Sports have always played a large part in my life and I have been participating in them since I could walk. My athletic experiences have taught me everything I know about hard work, perseverance and given me a drive to succeed in everything that I do. Perhaps the greatest honor that I received in high school was being selected as captain of the football team by my peers. Looking back, it is the foundation that I developed throughout my football career along with the willingness by my parents to give me the tools I need to succeed that have shaped my life. During my time at the University I have been given opportunities to utilize these skills to be successful and to expand my academic horizons. I have served on the Honors Program Student Council, become a member of a pre law fraternity - Phi Alpha Delta, and come to know many of my peers through many honor societies and community service projects. Everyday presents an opportunity for new experiences that will further shape my character and abilities. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Banking and Finance while pursuing a minor in History.

Born on the coldest Christmas on record in Miami, Florida, I suppose that I am not a true “Georgia peach,” though I certainly do try. With the exception of a small stint in Marietta, I lived in South Florida my entire life until I turned 16. Just after the close of my sophomore year in high school, my family moved to Macon. I did not want to go; in fact, I downright refused. But looking back, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. God used it to mold me into a better person, one less dependent on others and more willing to take a stand. As I finished my high school years in Macon, I developed invaluable skills by working at a Hallmark store and being a full-time nanny for three young boys during the summer. I discovered the values of patience, persistence, and a willing spirit, along with the power of a hug and a band-aid. In moving to Macon I discovered who I really was, shedding the superficial things that I previously used to define myself. Now as a student at UGA, these ideals carry over into my life both inside and outside of the classroom. I appreciate the importance of strong academics, while serving others and growing through experiences. I recognize that at this point in my life I am presented with more opportunities than I will ever see again. I delight in being involved in the community, on campus, and in my sorority. As far as my personality goes, I talk and sing incessantly. Ask anyone who knows me; I can attach a song to most anything! Constantly smiling, I am an eternal optimist. I am a bit of a homebody, and I adore my family. When I commit to something I put my heart into it and no less. All in all, I am enthusiastic about life and have every intention of making a difference and inspiring others to do the same.

Two decades ago, I was born in the Queen City of Charlotte, North Carolina, where my family continues to reside cheerfully. My younger sister and I were raised by our giving parents, and we have, therefore, always been a supportive and loving family. Each summer, we lived together at Lake Norman, where we enjoyed waterskiing, bare footing, and wakeboarding. After being busily involved with the National Association of Student Councils and while in high school, I came to UGA with plans to rapidly get involved. Since my parents are UGA Alumni, my decision to depart from my Chapel Hill-bound friends came quite naturally. The confidence instilled in me by my parents and teachers made this transition to college life an effortless experience that has taught me multitudes about myself and my passions in life. After two full years in Athens, there is no place on earth I would rather be. Recently, I founded a company with the mission of providing “affordable, functional web sites, immediate customer service, and complete customer satisfaction.” I hope to use this experience, along with a degree in Management Information Systems, to pursue a career in corporate information technology management, and, eventually, ownership of a Fortune 500 company. After two years of longing, I feel honored to have been selected into the Leadership Scholars Program.

Stability is a key word to describe my life. I lived most of my life in the same house in a relatively small town in Louisiana called Mandeville. I have been blessed with supportive, stable family. More than anything in life, my family has shaped me. I have also had stability in my friendships; I still rely on my friendships that commenced in elementary school. With the support of my family and friends I was involved in various campus clubs, sports teams, and community organizations in high school. Desiring to be extremely active and involved has proven to be both my greatest strength and my greatest weakness. Coming to the University of Georgia provided me with the opportunity to forgo this stability and truly test the strength of my character. My experience at the University has been more than I could have ever hoped for. Over the past 2 years I have grown more independent and confident in my abilities. Having to start from scratch in this huge environment has made me appreciate the fulfillment I receive from participating in various university and community activities. I see college as an opportunity to educate ourselves so that we might use the gifts we have been given for the betterment of our communities. With my degree in International Business, I hope to lobby for trade measures that will encourage economic growth in developing nations thereby improving the standard of living.

I was born in Minsk, Belarus, a province of the former Soviet Union. In the spring of 1989, my family moved to Atlanta. Having the opportunity to witness first hand my parents’ struggle to create a better life for our family instilled in me the importance of diligence and pursuing one’s dream. After moving around a number of times, my family settled in Alpharetta where I attended Milton High School. Upon my arrival at UGA, I quickly took advantage of the various organizations the University has to offer. Through my involvement, I have developed skills such as communication, responsibility, and organization. My most rewarding experience thus far in my college career has been organizing a tutoring program at Bethel Midtown Village for underprivileged kids. I was born and raised in the beautiful “garden city” of Augusta, Georgia. Regardless of what new adventure I’ve taken in life, my family has always been extremely supportive. I attribute many of my values to important lessons taught by my grandparents. Playing various sports throughout high school also had a significant impact on my work ethic and goal setting. During my last years in highs school, I was extremely eager to start college. The hope scholarship and the great traditions at UGA greatly influenced my decision to attend school here. For the past couple of years, UGA has become my new home. The education you receive, including many life lessons is invaluable. I have had the enjoyment of serving several leadership positions through my involvement. At the same time, I’ve been fortunate enough to have many great mentors, who always keep me on track. After recently spending two summers abroad, I have decided to take on an additional major of international affairs. My future plans include working for an investment bank in for a couple of years, while later attending NYU to study international law. My goal is to have an enjoyable job that allows me to travel the world.

I have lived my entire life here in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout those years, I have been blessed with a loving caring family who has fully supported my every endeavor. As a child, I was actively involved in most of the sports in my community including , soccer, and football. Continuing those interests into high school at Landmark Christian School provided me with countless leadership opportunities. Programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Operation Shoebox, Benteen Day and others taught me invaluable lessons in what it means to serve. Being involved has been a great influence on my life; however, it has been my parents, brothers, and sisters who have given me the motivation to accomplish my goals and the strength to succeed. Attending the University of Georgia has enveloped me in an atmosphere where I continue to apply the leadership skills that I learned to my academic work, the Institute for Leadership Advancement, the Real Estate Society, and local community events. It has truly been a learning experience to advance from vendor to Company Foreman at Jay Vending, where I have been employed for the past five years. In the past, I have had an unconventional learning experience. This is my second year at the University of Georgia. I graduated from Centennial High School in 2001. My senior year, I participated in full-time joint enrollment at Georgia Perimeter College. Because of that, I came in with 45 hours. I feel that attending the junior college was one of my most beneficial experiences. I met many diverse students and outstanding instructors, had a smoother transition from high school to college, and grew as an individual by taking a step outside my comfort zone. I am having a great time as a junior. I love college, especially UGA. I am so excited about being a student of the Terry College of Business and now a part of this program. Outside of school, I enjoy running, singing, and reading. I am also very active at the Catholic Center. I am so happy to have found my niche at the university and look forward to becoming even more active in its unbelievable opportunities.

I was reared in Lilburn, Georgia, where I lived from birth until this year. Since an early age, my parents have instilled in me four passions, 1) my relationship with Jesus Christ, 2) excelling in anything I undertook, 3) a desire to excel in creative entrepreneurship, and 4) a love for our native Atlanta. I am a member of The Church of the Apostles, an Anglican church in Buckhead, which has provided much strength and direction for my life. I attended the Greater Atlanta Christian School. While at GACS, I was involved in a number of school organizations. Two activities that will always be memorable for me were playing sweeper on the 2000 GAC State Championship Soccer Team, and founding and serving as President of the GAC Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) during my senior year. At UGA, I have had the privilege to hold several leadership roles. I envisioned and secured financial support for a Christian concert during the first semester of my freshman year. Creating a partnership with “One Body, One Voice”, to plan and hold this concert featuring Bebo Norman, was a great experience. I also have had the privilege to co-found a chapter of Rotaract, the college affiliate of Rotary International, with the support and guidance of the Athens Rotary Club. This first year for Rotaract has been a very productive one. We have had a number of university and local officials as guest speakers. Most recently, a concept we developed to honor university undergraduates for outstanding service came to fruition with the first annual “Rotary Top 12 Awards” program presentation on April 7, 2004.

After moving four times in my early childhood I ended up in Alpharetta, Georgia. Growing up I was heavily involved with athletics. Although I played just about every sport at some point, football and baseball became my passion at Centennial High School. However, when I realized I wouldn’t have athletics to keep myself busy in college I turned toward on-campus and community activities to fill the void, which has turned out to be extremely rewarding. When I am not busy with on-campus and community activities I enjoy playing intramural sports and relaxing.

I grew up in the small town of Dalton, GA, and I participated in football, wrestling, and track. I was class vice-president, and I held many offices within different honorary societies at my high school. In college, I continued my leadership roles as the president of World Ambassador Organization. I found that within this organization, I was able to actually develop and test, not only the different leadership skills that I possessed, but also the leadership styles and skills that the other members possessed. The World Ambassador organization became the organization that represented all International student organizations. We were also recognized as the voice of the International population on campus, which consists of 1200 students. We were recognized monthly in the Red & Black, and were placed on advisory boards of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Life Advisory Council (SLAC). I have also developed the Global Friends peer mentor group and the International Affairs Committee of the SGA. My family moved to Conyers from Jacksonville, FL during the summer of 1991. Prior to Jacksonville, I had lived in Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. Growing up, my father was a minister and my mother was a nurse. They taught me early on the value of hard work, sacrifice, service, and integrity. I also have two brothers: Mike, who is 26, and Jason, who is 18. They are my two best friends and a tremendous joy in my life. All three of us graduated from Salem High School in Conyers. There, I participated in Track and Field, Wrestling, Competition Cheerleading, United Way for Youth, Beta Club, and National Honor Society. I have been working with my two brothers at Rockdale Gymnastics for the past five years. This experience has been one of the best in my life. It has introduced me to many of my closest friends and further developed my ability and love for gymnastics. My experience at Rockdale Gymnastics has allowed me to both compete and coach in several national competitions. I came to the University of Georgia in the Fall of 2002 and haven’t looked back. I have met so many wonderful students and professors and been given more opportunities than I could ever ask for. I am now a full-bred Georgia Bulldawg and will take these experiences with me wherever I go. Upon graduation, I plan to gain the necessary work experience and return for a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Though my career aspirations still vary like the wind, I eventually plan to work in the healthcare field and would like to manage a hospital or specialty clinic.

Aaron Konnick

After spending 9 years of my childhood living in Alexandria, VA, I moved to Marietta at the end of my third grade year. Upon moving to Georgia, my life consisted of a steady diet of school and sports. During my junior year at Lassiter High School, I got involved in Future Business Leaders of America, which proved to be a life changing experience. My experiences with FBLA have taught me how to lead, compete, and help others. After coming to the University of Georgia, I expected to immediately become involved in some type of business organization. However, my life took off in a new direction. I became a member of the UGA College Republicans and quickly discovered my love of politics. A life in politics truly gives me the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and mobilize young people to take an active role in the world around them. In my rare free time, I enjoy sports, video games, and spending time with my friends and family. Although I want to pursue a career in business, I hope to make use of my experiences through public service. Through the Leonard Leadership Scholars Program, I hope to strengthen my leadership skills in order to fulfill God’s plan for my life as a servant leader.

Though I was born in Kansas, I have lived throughout the United States (Missouri, Michigan, and Texas) since settling in Roswell, Georgia with my family for the last 5 years of my life before coming to UGA. Growing up, I actively participated in nearly every sport, which has contributed to the competitive spirit I have today. My family and I are members of Fellowship Bible Church, and I owe my spiritual growth to my parents and our close family ties. In high school I continued to play sports recreationally along with being very involved in such organizations as Student Council, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Key Club. All of my friends, activities, and studies in high school have shaped me into a very well-rounded individual, and effectively prepared me for life at UGA. I have been fortunate enough to become very involved on campus here with my duties as Treasurer of the Student Government Association keeping me very busy. I also attend Crossroads weekly and meet with my Community Group for Bible study as well. Dean’s Council, SGA Internal Affairs Committee, and the Small Clubs Allocations Committee round off my college activities. I was a ballerina for 10 years who couldn’t walk across a perfectly flat floor without falling. The only daughter in a family that loved camping, I grew up the “honorary Boy Scout.” In high school, I participated in more than my fair share of honor and service clubs, not to mention marching band and theatre. At UGA I’ve decreased the quantity of activities I’m involved with but increased the quality of my commitments. Despite my deep roots in Stone Mountain (my home for the last 15 years), I’ve been bitten by the travel bug and have been forced to follow a strict regimen to keep the disease in check. Thus, I spent the summer between my freshman and sophomore years at UGA in Egypt and Ethiopia working in an orphanage and the second half of my sophomore year studying business in Lyon, France (among other adventures).

As a child growing up in Greenville, South Carolina and later, Atlanta, Georgia, I always possessed the desire to acquaint myself with as many different social and volunteer experiences as possible. My family always supported my curiosity and promoted whatever new endeavor I had decided to try out. I thrived on the interactions that promoted a well-rounded lifestyle and introduced new experiences to my growing aptitude for leadership. From Girl Scouts and piano lessons as a young girl, to Student Council and track as a teenager, I thrived on activities that allowed me to stretch my abilities. My desire to continue this trend of involvement that I had created for myself lead me to the University of Georgia where I am trying to make a positive contribution both to the school and the community. I began my contribution to campus life by attending the B.I.G. Event the summer prior to my freshman year. The following summer, I served as a Coordinator for the event. In each of my years here at UGA I have been actively involved in a variety of campus-sponsored events. I am honored to serve in multiple leadership positions and I strive to represent the University well. The opportunity I have encountered at UGA has allowed me to become acquainted with and learn from students whose cultures, experiences, and backgrounds are different from mine. This is a great learning experience and I wholeheartedly appreciate the chance I have been given. When I graduate in May of 2005, I hope to have made a positive impact on the students, faculty, and Athens community.

No, I am actually not related to the famous painter nor am I related to the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle, but for my purposes I will still claim to have an interesting life. I was born and raised in Roswell, GA and grew up swimming and playing golf and tennis. I thrived on the sport of golf from the age of 5 through age 14 and then I got sick of it so now my athletic obsession resides in the sport of snow skiing. I am currently studying Finance while pursing a dual degree in Advertising. Ever since God came into my life and took charge my ambitions have changed and they are still in the refining process. Currently I am interested in pursuing a job in Corporate America and could see myself as the CEO of Coca-Cola in years to come, however I am not at a point rule out anything. I am involved in many activities on campus and all are enriching my life and helping me become more balanced. Being in charge of an organization has probably taught me more vital skills than any class I have taken. The cool thing is that with my current courses and my real life experience, I am getting a 360 degree education and feel that when I graduate I will be ready for anything.

Jamie Martin

I was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, where my family currently lives. I am an only child blessed with wonderful parents who have invested in me greatly over the last 20 years. Throughout my life, I have enjoyed participating in many activities and organizations. In high school, I had the opportunity to serve as senior class president, captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, and as an editor for the yearbook. Each of these different activities taught me invaluable lessons about leadership through servant hood, dedication to achieving a goal, and working with others on a team. Fortunately, the lessons I learned in high school carried over into my college experience. I have been privileged to be involved in several activities within my sorority, on campus, and at the Baptist Student Union. One of my passion areas is encouraging and mentoring younger students in the sorority and on campus. My experiences have reaffirmed the fact that a leader is first and foremost a servant who is committed to their cause. In addition to campus activities, I am currently working toward a Marketing degree with a minor in Speech Communication. I hope someday to move to New York and pursue a career in advertising, or to work for Southern Living magazine.

I am from Gainesville Georgia and I am majoring in Marketing. I am a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority where I have served as Vice President of Administration, and recently was elected as the Chapter President. This was quite an honor because we just received the JWH cup from our nationals naming us the top AOPI chapter nationally! To further my horizons, I have been the Treasurer of the Tate Honor Society, a member of the Georgia Recruitment Team, a member of the Arch Society, and a participant in the LeaderShape Institute Program. Luckily, I also have had the opportunity of serving on the executive committee for the first collegiate Relay For Life in the Nation as Logistics chair, becoming one of my most rewarding experiences at the University thus far. I am a member of several honor societies including the Golden Key Honor Society, Blue Key Honor Society, and Rho Lambda Honor Society. A year ago I had an amazing opportunity to study abroad in Verona Italy for 7 weeks which was a tremendous learning experience both inside and outside the classroom setting. This past summer I had tremendous opportunity as an intern at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in the marketing/PR department in the Clinical Outreach sector. Outside of these activities I enjoy running, relaxing with friends (and/or meeting new people), and going to Georgia Football games!

Kelly Mattox

I was born in Royston, Georgia, and attended Franklin County High School. While I was there, I played the flute and trumpet for the marching band and was editor of the yearbook. Attending a small high school has been very important to my development. A supportive community and close friends who are still in my life today are very important to me. In high school I started working at a concession stand at the Pendergrass Flea Market. Since I have been in college, I have been running concession operations and managing the employees and cash flow of the business. I have learned so much from the responsibilities that come with being accountable to only my customers and employees. The first three years of my college career were spent aggressively pursuing a degree in pharmacy. After the first year in the PharmD program, I realized that I loved business much more than I did science and medicine. I decided to drop the program and pursue an accounting degree. That decision was a hard one to make, but I am sure I have made the right choice for me. At Terry, we have had several speakers tell us that we should pursue work that we love. I am fortunate to have learned the importance of that lesson. In June 2003, I married my high school sweetheart. We went to Alaska for our honeymoon and live in Athens together. My husband, Scott, is pursuing an Engineering degree at UGA. Each day we are learning the lessons of balancing school, work, and family.

Chris Maurer was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 16, 1981. He moved to Reading, Pennsylvania in 1986 and has lived there ever since. One major reason he is attending the University of Georgia is his involvement in competitive swimming. He is involved with many different campus organizations including Delta Epsilon Iota, which he is President of. He has also been involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Council for the past year and also the Athens County Mentor Program. Last summer, he completed an internship with Accenture in Atlanta. This experience allowed him to develop his technical and personal skills and has helped him prepare for the business world.

I spent the first 13 years of my life in the bitter-cold weather of Rochester, a mid-sized city in upstate New York. When I was 13, I moved to Lawrenceville, Ga. to start the 8th grade at a new school in a new state. Moving to the South was a fairly significant transition, but I think that I managed well. I might even consider myself more of a Southerner than a Northerner now, after spending the last 7 years in Georgia eating grits and listening to the occasional country song. After the big adjustment of 8th grade, I moved up to one of the biggest high schools in the Southeast and ended up having an awesome experience there. I decided to join the cross-country and wrestling teams my freshman year, and was blessed to be apart of a state championship team in each sport while in high school. I was also very involved with our high school's FCA during my junior and senior year, and I was able to take on my first leadership role within that context during my senior year. I decided to come to UGA after taking calculus and physics and deciding that engineering and GA Tech were not for me. God has really led me in some unexpected, but very exciting directions throughout college so far. I have been fortunate to be able to get involved on campus and to explore different things to try and find what I enjoy and am passionate about. The greatest things that I have experienced through all of my activities, though, are the relationships that I have developed. I have been blessed to form many amazing friendships and to find several mentors who have really taught me the value of relationships. I am looking forward to my next two years at UGA, meeting new people, and leaving my mark on this university.

I am very fortunate to have a family that has supported and encouraged me all of my life. My parents and my brother and sister are always there to cheer me on in whatever I choose to do, and I am thankful for their constant support. High School gave me a taste of the many opportunities to come. Valuable experiences in the National Honor Society, Girl Scouts, and various musical productions helped me grow as a well rounded individual, interested in service and in leadership. College has allowed me to grow again, both intellectually and personally. My experience as a Brother in Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity has provided professional growth, while still giving me all of the positive aspects of brotherhood found in a social fraternity. I also been fortunate to become involved with the Center for International Trade and Security as an Ambassador. My participation offers me a way to stay informed about world events and to in turn, share my knowledge with local Athens high school students through a community outreach program. Lastly, my involvement as a Resident Assistant has helped me develop very important communication skills that come from working with nearly 40 residents on a daily basis. My experiences at UGA have only shown me what is possible. I am eager to remain involved as I continue learning about myself and the world around me.

My parents immigrated to the United States from India 22 years ago. I was born in California and lived there until I moved to Auburn, Alabama when I was four. Moving across the world then across the country was a big change but my parents and I got used to everything and we eventually ended up loving Auburn. Then at age ten I moved to Marietta where I went to Walton High School and played basketball. The next step was coming to UGA. My favorite school activity is going to the football and basketball games. I enjoy spending time at Ramsey, road trips, watching T.V., and reading. My favorite food used to be pizza but I ate too much of it last year in the dorms. For my entire life, my family has resided on a farm outside of the small southwest Georgia town of Fort Gaines. I have been blessed to grow up surrounded by supportive and encouraging family, friends, church members, teachers, and coaches. These special people have shaped my life as they have given me their time, their instruction, their interest, and their love. I have been actively involved in the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church since childhood. In high school, I led an active and balanced life with much time invested in academics as well as involvement in student government, basketball, and numerous community activities. In the past two years as a student at the University of Georgia, I have had the opportunity to become active on campus and in the Athens community through various organizations. From the different people that have been a part of my life and the diverse experiences that I have had, I have learned valuable lessons of humility, patience, responsibility, hard work, and organization. I appreciate opportunities to interact with and serve others. Volunteering in my local hospital’s rehabilitation department last summer was rewarding for me in many ways. I also enjoy snow skiing, traveling, and reading. I am majoring in Accounting and intend to pursue a Masters Degree. I hope to eventually work in some capacity to further the economic development in my rural community.

I was born in Pasadena, California, where I resided until I was 13 years old. My family moved to Kiawah Island, a small resort destination 30 minutes away from Charleston, SC, when I was thirteen. I went to a small private high school in Charleston where I played on the golf team for a year, and was involved in several community activities outside of school. Coming to the University of Georgia was a learning experience for me. Before I could get involved on campus, I had to acclimate myself to the diversity that the University is so fortunate to have. It may not seem diverse to some, but coming from my high school, it is a huge difference. I am so glad to have made the relationships that I have with members of the faculty and of the student body in the past two years. I joined a sorority on campus, and it is through my sorority that I have been extremely involved in activities on campus and in the community. For the past two summers I have worked for a children’s camp in Hawaii. I served as the lead teacher in exposing these children to the Hawaiian culture. I learned so much about myself in this position. Most importantly I learned how to communicate with people who did not speak a language with which I am familiar. I am majoring in Accounting, and I am planning on continuing here at the University of Georgia in the Masters in Accountancy program.

Even though I am not originally from the South, I still consider myself a Southerner. I participate in all the festivities one must to be truly considered Southern. This is…on most Saturdays in the fall, adorned in my red and black, I can be found cheering on the dawgs with 90,000 other die- hard fans. Needless to say, I love my school, both the students and faculty, and I love the athletics. When you put these two together there is no better place to be. I was raised always being told to follow my dreams. So when I stepped on campus my freshman year, I realized one of my dreams had been answered. It was not an easy transition though. I left behind family, friends, and a great set of memories and achievements from my past 18 years. I have always taken great interest in athletics, and in high school, I excelled in softball, basketball, and golf. During these years, I started to realize the importance of leadership, and how so many things can be affected in the presence of a great leader. College has given me the opportunity to begin learning and developing skills that will help me become a more effective leader. I have had the opportunity to be involved in sorority and community service projects, which have augmented my growth as an individual. Most importantly, however, the past 2 years I have had the opportunity to develop these skills by working with the women’s basketball team. This and other service jobs have made me realize the impact one person can have on another, and thus I am just beginning to explore the essence of leadership.

Though I was born in Savannah, GA, my family has resided in Atlanta for the last 15 years, and I am a graduate of Dunwoody High School. My parents have always stressed the importance of being a well-rounded person, and from their teachings and encouragement I have balanced my life with service, academic, business, and musical pursuits. In high school I was active in such organizations as the Interact Club (a service organization affiliated with the local Rotary Club), Student Government Association, National Honor Society, and the Dunwoody High School Orchestra. I also enjoyed playing the piano and working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Girl Scouts of America. Since entering college I have benefited from the versatility of UGA, with its wide-ranging student organizations and academic resources, and have kept in mind the importance of giving back not only to the community, but also to the University. This past summer I interned at the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead as the Financial Development Associate and was fortunate enough to organize its benefit concert for Grammy- award winner Bruce Hornsby. I was born in , Ohio yet moved to Roswell, GA at the age of 3 and have lived there ever since. I was very active in youth sports; swimming year round, recreation basketball, baseball, and soccer. All these sports which I participated in season after season have left me with a very competitive spirit, which is brought out in my highly academically competitive nature. I have taken a strong interest in the computing and IT fields, tearing apart and upgrading systems since the age of 12. I use my IT skills to help my friends and colleagues with their computing and networking woes charging a home-cooked meal as payment. I was very involved at Centennial High School; participating in Math Team, Academic Bowl, French Club, Varsity Swimming, and Marching Band. I worked with Staples and VIPColor and utilized my computer skills to succeed in both positions. I have a passion for traveling and have taken weekend trips to Los Angeles, New York, and Charlottesville, VA to name a few this semester alone. Through encouragement from my parents I have found being a leader a very fulfilling skill and am thrilled with the opportunity to be more effective in leadership through the Leadership Scholars program.

I was born in Atlanta, GA 19 years ago surrounded by a large and wonderful family. We moved soon afterwards to Dallas, TX, but I have always thought of my home as Georgia. Texas however, was a wonderful place to grow up with an amazing Baptist tradition and an amazing family to support and encourage me in all my endeavors. I played every sport under the sun, but after realizing my limitations through some chronic injuries I picked one and stuck with volleyball. My volleyball experiences through club, high school, and college have enriched my life, provided amazing friends, and given me opportunities to travel all over the country. I cannot thank my parents enough for all the hours they devoted to travel and watching me play. I think the discipline my parents have taught me has carried over into all aspects of my life, and I think the faith they instilled in my heart will give me the courage and hope to go on and do something spectacular with my life. In college, I have been involved in Varsity volleyball, the campus Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, and am now studying Finance and Political Science. In all of my past experiences I have found that the most fulfilling thing for me would be to serve the less fortunate through my mind, body, and spirit. I hope to use the skills I learn at UGA and Terry to make an impact in either a nonprofit service-oriented organization, or an agency of the Federal Government.

From the sunrise of my first morning to a bit before my tenth birthday I lived in Stone Mountain, Georgia. My family and I moved to Snellville when I was in fourth grade, and we have lived there since. I have had a fanatical interest in sports since I could walk, and I played everything from soccer and baseball to and basketball. I even did a little gymnastics as a toddler! At about the same time I started playing soccer I also joined the Cub Scouts (although I think I was in it more for the snacks at the end of the meetings) and remained a scout for about 5 years. In high school I got my first job at Bruster’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream & Yogurt, which was my first introduction to the real world (i.e., having a boss and FICA). The summer after my senior year I went to work for a certified public accountant. Needless to say, it was a great learning experience. I was able to witness firsthand how the business world operates and increase my knowledge of accounting at the same time. College has been a terrific experience for me. My 2 years at the University of Georgia have afforded me the opportunity to meet many great people and get involved in a number of exceptional organizations. Now, as I look back on my 20 years, I realize that I was blessed with amazing friends; 2 thoughtful, kind, and devoted parents; and 2 wonderful sisters. My family has taught me some of life’s greatest lessons and helped me endure the inevitable hardships that come with growing up. They have always been there for me, and I am who I am because of the love and continuous support that they have always provided. I am majoring in Banking & Finance and hope to one day earn an M.B.A. from Harvard.

I was born and raised in Bainbridge, Georgia. Throughout high school, I was an active member, and held many leadership positions, in my activities. As a 4-year member of my school’s football and competition cheerleading squad, I served as co-captain. I was the first and only female golfer on my high school’s team. The Keep America Beautiful program and the American Red Cross’ Relay for Life were my outlets for community service. I was Bat-Mitzvah, Confirmed, and have been very active in Temple Beth-El. Based on my community service and leadership qualities, I was selected as an Olympic Torchbearer in 1996. Since entering college, I have found even more opportunities to become involved in the community and university.

I was born in Little Rock, AR and lived in the surrounding area for several years thereafter. At the age of 5, I moved to Memphis, TN, the city my family still calls home to this day. I grew up surrounded by a loving family who was supportive enough to be there when I needed them the most while understanding the importance of the lessons learned through one’s independence. They instilled in me the value of relationships, hard work, discipline, and integrity. At the University Of Georgia, these fundamental principles have provided me with a firm foundation that I have and will continue to grow from. Currently, I am actively involved with Dean Tate Honor Society, Dean’s Cabinet for Diversity, The Arch Society, and Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. I am majoring in finance and some day hope to obtain either an MBA or a degree in law.

At age five I moved to the birthplace of rock n’ roll, Memphis, Tennessee, where my family has resided ever since. As I grew older, I continually received the support and encouragement of my dear family, who pushed me to reach my potential and succeed at all of my endeavors. In addition, I trained jiu-jitsu throughout high school. Through the support of my family and the discipline required by jiu-jitsu, I developed the infrastructure in my life that has given me the key to success. With this infrastructure, I have been fortunate enough to attend the University and excel in academics, leadership, and community service. This fine institution continues to provide me the opportunities necessary to build myself up in all facets of life and become a truly balanced man. I look forward to the Leadership Scholars Program as another opportunity to help me reach my full potential.

When I was three years old, my family moved to Marietta, Georgia, where we still live today. I have been fortunate enough to live with an extremely supportive and loving family, which has made a tremendous difference in my life. As I grew up, I took on a few passions: mainly my faith, sports, and music. I became very involved in the Young Life program in high school, which fosters a healthy environment for Christian students to come together. My parents always served as a guide for me growing and trying to discover my own faith. I loved all sports, but decided to focus exclusively on soccer. I played on a club team, which played all year round, and for my varsity high school team. I learned some of my most important lessons from playing soccer. Luckily enough, my senior year we won a state championship, which was the highlight of my high school stint. Lastly music serves as a huge inspiration in my life. I love going to concerts, discovering new bands, and practicing on my guitar. This love moved me to work for the University radio station for a little while, but unfortunately could not continue due to time constraints. Since coming to the University, I have never been happier in my life. I have done an amazing amount of growing, through challenging my faith, developing new relationships, involving myself in leadership activities, and challenging myself academically. I have learned so much from each unique experience and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me. I am majoring in Accounting, pursuing a Masters Degree and hoping one day to work with kids.

While my parents are from Taiwan and Hong Kong, I was born in the small town of Elberton, GA and have lived in the same house all 19 years of my life. My involvement with the Wesley Foundation is currently one of the most important activities in my life. I am on the Leadership team and lead a freshman girls’ bible study. I also help with Outreach and work with kids in the Parkview Community Housing. I have been given a heart for missions, and I have had the opportunity to serve in many places in the Southeast, as well as internationally in Guatemala and Hong Kong. My hobbies include playing the piano and any types of sports, particularly softball and tennis. I enjoy fellowshipping with friends and meeting up to play volleyball at apartment complexes where none of us live. I love to go grocery shopping with my family at the Chinese grocery stores in Atlanta, eating Chinese dim-sum, and eating my mom’s good Chinese cooking! This past summer I had the opportunity to study Chinese and business in China for 6 weeks and had a rewarding and memorable experience.

I believe that it was in the second grade (a time when most children bring book bags to school, while I carried a briefcase) when it became obvious that I was destined to enter the business world. As I have grown and matured I have begun to believe my niche in the world of business to be that of investments. After three internships with a private equity investment firm, my passion for investment has soared and therefore I have declared a finance major. On the nonprofessional side of my life, I am involved in Crossroads, an Athens local Christian student ministry as well as being the head of philanthropic fundraising for the Sigma Chi Fraternity. This year alone I lead my chapter to raising more money for charity than any other fraternity or sorority in the history of the University of Georgia. I am a graduate of the in Atlanta where I won a state championship in soccer and am the proud son of two UGA graduates.

I was born and raised in good old Marietta, Ga. My early passion for soccer stayed with me for 10 fun years; until, I became preoccupied with my track and cross country career. Good friends, respectable teachers, energetic coaches, and great times made my experience at Pope high school a memorable one. The decision to attend Georgia was not much of a decision at all. I filled out only one application over the summer. Dorm life treated me well. Creswell turned out to be a great place to live, next to lots of food i.e. Bolton. Now living in an apartment, I constantly reminisce about the Philly cheese steaks at Snelling and the ice cream tubs at Bolton; while, I eat my chicken flavored Ramen noodles in my apartment. In the spring of my freshman year I started a small company, Inhale Oxygen Bars. You may have seen us in downtown Athens last year, but now we provide promotions for tradeshows and conventions. Over the last year, I concentrated on involving my self on campus and in the community. I am currently a Peer advisor, Court’s Scholar recipient, Tutor for Teach for Athens, Volunteer at Chase Street Elementary, and chair for campus involvement in a social fraternity. I am a “SARS victim”. My Internship over the upcoming summer has been canceled in Hong Kong due to SARS, so if any one has any domestic or international opportunities let me know! Evan Randall

Though my family is native to Georgia for over six generations, I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, the only non-Georgian in my immediate family. At the age of two, we moved to Kennesaw, GA where we have lived next to our extended family ever since. I spent my adolescence learning sports, doing school plays, and enjoying school. Throughout my childhood and to today, my parents provide so much inspiration and support; I am forever indebted to them. The first great challenge in my life was learning to share my wonderful parents with two newcomers: my little brothers. Through them, I have learned the significance of being a good role model, but more importantly, I have established the two most valuable relationships in my life. At the end of elementary school, I joined the Boy Scouts of America. This organization had tremendous influence over my maturation, and through my troop, I developed a passion for the outdoors. Through community service, education, and monthly outings, the principles of scouting became more and more meaningful. My troop gave me the opportunity to plan trips, organize tasks, lead my peers, and learn skills that schooling seldom emphasizes. Throughout my time as a scout, I participated in community service events and eventually led my own project. In high school, I played the trumpet in our marching band. I made lifelong friends and gained an appreciation for music, but I also learned the power of influence—and how I misuse leads to undesirable ends. UGA has been a wonderful place to develop self-sufficiency. My position as a Resident Assistant presents challenges daily, but the job is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. Daily, I am presented with new situations that are difficult to confront, but I also have the pleasure of helping first year students adapt to their newfound freedoms and responsibilities.

I grew up in Marietta, GA my entire life, but knew that my real home was here in Athens. Both of my parents brought me up as Georgia Bulldog ever since I was born. I lived my elementary and early teen-age years being a sports nut. I played everything from baseball to basketball to bowling to tennis. I was always known as the kid that never had nothing to do. I always tried to keep myself busy with something athletic or new to do. Baseball was my real love. Devoting myself to the game of baseball for 13 years was a large part of my life. Every summer, spring and fall until I was 16, I was out playing the sport that I loved. At 16, I knew that even though I enjoyed playing baseball, I really was ready to get out of it and begin working. I got a job at Simoniz Car Wash in October of 1998 and this became my new devotion. I began as a simple employee, but my strong work ethic drove to Customer Sales Assistant. I loved my job for the fact that I was working with all of my friends and also that I was excelling at it. I was breaking records for sales every month and was learning how to become better at it every day. This served one of the best learning experiences I could have had before coming to college. It taught me how to work hard to be successful, lead a team within an organization, and have a great time doing it. After about three and a half years of my commitment at the car wash, I left for UGA. I got to school and immediately began a commitment that little did I know would change my life forever. Alpha Epsilon Pi has been the largest responsibility that I have ever committed myself to, and it has been the most beneficial organization I think I could have ever joined. I have learned more responsibility and success skills than any class or person could ever teach me. In addition to the fraternity I belong to the Banking and Finance society (which I have just recently been elected as Vice President of Administration) and Hillel at UGA. This summer I will be working as an intern at UBS PaineWebber in Atlanta, pursuing my next goal as becoming a financial advisor.

Prior to attending the University of Georgia, I completed high school in , Pennsylvania. Go Steelers! While in high school, I was active in tennis and lacrosse. I also participated in two international summer exchange programs through Children’s International Summer Villages (CISV). I love meeting new people, which is why I decided to attend a school so far from home. This adventure that I chose to embark on has paid off to the fullest. My life here at UGA gets more exciting each day with people I meet and the opportunities available. As a result of these opportunities I have been able to get involved with the community, helping to make me a well-rounded student and a better person. A lifetime native of Georgia, I was born in Atlanta and grew up in the Lawrenceville area. Before coming to the University of Georgia, I attended Brookwood High School, where I was very involved with cross country and tennis. I have become involved with Communiversity, volunteering weekly at Hope Haven, a work center for adults with mental retardation. When I am not involved with school, I enjoy playing disc golf and spending time in the mountains and with my girlfriend. I was born and raised in Alabama, the Heart of Dixie. From the beginning, I was blessed with an extremely loving and dedicated family that strived to give me every advantage in life. My strong family life taught me to place great value on respect and caring for other people. At the age of 10, I moved with my family to Alpharetta, a town north of Atlanta. The move taught me to always try to learn from the people who are involved in my life. My experiences at Milton High School and Wieuca Road Baptist Church continued to show me that the emphasis in my personal development should be placed on relationships with other people. At the University of Georgia, I have been fortunate enough to become involved with many different organizations that have allowed me to strive to continually better myself as a person and as a leader. Though I was born in Franklin, Tennessee, I soon realized my calling as a Georgia girl when my parents settled our family in Savannah 18 years ago. Growing up, my life revolved around idolizing my brother who is 3 years my elder. By the time I was four all I wanted to do was follow he and his friends around to their swim lessons and Cub Scout meetings. At the same time, he was insisting that mom and dad “return me to L.L. Bean.” However, my brother was not the only person in my childhood who forced me to be stronger. On my birthday, 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on my chin. Therefore, for the next 4 years I was in and out of plastic surgery as each plastic surgeon tried to correct the previous mistakes. 15 years later, I can laugh at the scar I have on my chin because the only reason it never healed was because I couldn’t follow the doctor’s directions to not smile. ☺ Always an extrovert, my childhood and teenage years were spent in hours of ballet practice, Girl Scouts, on the soccer field, and in the classroom where I discovered my passion for writing and people. A product of the Georgia Public school systems until tenth grade, I transferred to Savannah Country Day school after my sophomore year. This was the hardest decision I have been forced to make to date. Transferring to the “elite” school in Savannah from a public school was not an easy task. Since Country Day begins in pre-k, many of my classmates had been together since an early age. However, without the change to Country Day I would not be the person I am today. Those last 2 years of high school shaped me into a more independent, self-driven, and optimistic person who has also become centered in her life. In addition, I learned to take chances when I was at Country Day. I was intrigued by this sport they talked about so often -- rowing. After one practice on the Moon River, I was addicted. For 2 years, I would spend hours each day feeling the perfect serenity as my boat glided across the water. There is no feeling like it in the world. During the next 2 years I went from being intrigued to being immersed in a sport that led me to apply for athletic scholarships and row with schools across the country on my track to applying to colleges. However, this process gave me a lesson in fate as a promise to row at an Ivy League school fell through and as luck would have it, I was lead to UGA. 2 years later, I could not be a happier or more thankful person. Georgia has allowed me the chance to develop my passion for giving back to the community through Classic City high school, learn patience as I crunch numbers and receive endless paper cuts working at the Housing Assignments office, and put my time management skills to the test as I balance my academics, social life, and involvement. I know that in order to gain the most from my college experience I have to grasp every opportunity that comes my way! All of these experiences and trials have instilled the importance of family. Still today, my family is my rock and comic relief! An avid traveler, my favorite experiences to date include climbing Mt. Saint Helens and backpacking in Switzerland! As far as personality goes, I am a vivacious person who never accepts no as a roadblock, loves singing even albeit off tune, is rarely a follower, and always overdresses when in doubt. ☺ Overall, I’m an exuberant and somewhat crazy gal who is thrilled and inspired by this opportunity to join a group of Scholars!

On January 22, 1983, I was born in Atlanta, Georgia along with my wonderful twin brother Ashby. Ashby has downs syndrome and has been the biggest motivating factor in shaping me into the person I am today. My family lived there for only one year, until my father was promoted to a job in , Michigan. My family only resided there for a couple of years before we moved again to Denver, Colorado. I enjoyed spending 4 years of my childhood out West before moving again to the small town of Ridgefield, Connecticut. After 3 years in the Northeast we finally moved to the place where I call home, Charlotte, North Carolina. I lived there for 8 years and attended Providence Senior High School. At Providence, I was fortunate enough to help lead the Varsity Soccer team to a state championship victory as well as give the last remarks to my graduating class as Senior Class President. I completed a full circle of places to live by deciding to come to Athens, Georgia and attend the University of Georgia. I have been afforded many opportunities to learn and grow as a leader at UGA. I have met more people at UGA from whom I could learn from than I did throughout my life before college. The caliber of the students, faculty members, and administrators cannot be matched by any other institution in the South. As an empiricist, I believe that every experience we encounter and every individual we build relationships with, shape the development of our character and personality. Throughout the course of my life I have been blessed with experiences and opportunities that have motivated me into striving to become the individual I am today. Born and raised in a medium-sized, cosmopolitan city called Barranquilla, which is located in the northern coast of Colombia, I attended an American bilingual school where I learned to speak English at an early age. My family always played an important role along with the Catholic Church I was part of, not only in providing me support as I worked to achieve my goals, but as they instilled in me the morals and values that serve as the foundation to my daily actions. Service was always a priority for me as I grew up and being an active member of my hometown’s Interac Club confirms so. Likewise, involvement in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Association and the Student Government throughout my high school years, helped me utilize and enhance my leadership skills. In fall 2001, I was fortunate enough to be granted a scholarship at the University of Georgia through the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP). It was through this cultural exchange program that I developed a leadership style in response to cultural diversity as I interacted with people from around the world and learned to look beyond self-imposed biases and prejudices. This is especially favorable in my major International Business, since I aspire to lead a multinational corporation. Enrolling as a freshman at a university in a foreign country was a great challenge, however, as I reflect upon my experiences so far, which include my involvement and participation in the Honors Program, AIESEC, the Hispanic Student Association and the Georgia International Leadership Conference, I believe I have succeeded.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 27, 1980. Growing up in a town called Jonesboro, I had a great childhood filled with sports, friends, family, and just plain fun. My family and I moved to Peachtree City when I was sixteen where I began attending McIntosh High School as a freshman. Here, I met some incredible new friends that I will surely keep close contact with for the remainder of my life. Regardless of the great times I had while at McIntosh, my entrance into the University of Georgia was where I really began to “find myself”, as well as my major. I am currently majoring in Economics and am also pursuing a minor in Political Science. Both of these subjects interest me greatly and should provide me useful knowledge as I leave the university and begin a career in the business realm. Outside of the classroom, I play drums in a band, work at Lane Creek Golf Course, play golf, lift weights, and I also go home frequently to spend time with my family.

I am the son of Tony and Ilham Shoukry, and I have two supportive, older brothers, Mike and Chris Shoukry. I went to Lakeside High School in my hometown of Evans, Georgia. During my years at Lakeside, I participated in many activities in order to facilitate my personal development and my potential for success in the future. I was a meritorious member of the National Honor Society, I was treasurer of Interact Service Club, I qualified for All-State in the debate club, I was president of Senior Video Club, and I was public relations officer for the Student Body. The Rotary Club of Columbia County elected me to represent their organization at a leadership camp in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. Currently, I am a second year Honors student majoring in Accounting in the Terry College of Business. I am hoping to get my Masters of Accountancy and become a Certified Public Accountant. After graduating with a Masters degree, I plan to continue my education in law school. Meanwhile, I am focusing my efforts on excelling in my academics and continuing to foster my character through leadership and character development programs. Every spring, I coach 11-12 year old basketball for the Athens-Clarke County recreational department. In the summer, I coach 5-6 year old T-Ball for low-income students in Athens-Clarke County. I hope to use my leadership skills, financial background, and legal background to one-day climb up the corporate ladder in corporate America.

Gabriel Sibony

I was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala on October 12, 1983 and enjoyed living there for the next 18 years of my life. While in high school I was part of the basketball and baseball teams, the honors program, and was involved in my Jewish community as a youth leader. What brought me to Athens were the strong support system that I always enjoyed and my personal goals and objectives. Coming from an underdeveloped and poor country such as Guatemala I have seen the harsh reality that many people in the world face. While this reality has driven me to learn, to experience, to grow, and to make a difference, my friends and family have provided me with the love and support I need to make something out of my opportunity here.

Major: Economics

As a native Georgian, born and raised in Marietta, I attended Wheeler High School, where I quickly became involved in numerous student activities and took on many leadership roles. My love for Georgia made my decision to attend the University of Georgia an easy one. The leadership roles I held in high school prepared and motivated me to continue to develop these skills in college. Before most freshmen arrived in the fall, I participated in the 1st Freshman College Summer Experience program at UGA, which quickly helped me become acclimated to the challenges of college life. As a junior, I currently serve as Treasurer on the Executive Board of my sorority, Sigma Delta Tau. Additionally, I am proud to be a founding member of Colleges Against Cancer, for which I am serving my second term as 1st Vice President of Marketing. These positions have provided me with valuable experiences that I will use in my business career. Outside of school, I enjoy sports, traveling, and spending time with my friends and my twin sister, who also attends The University of Georgia. Upon graduation, I would love to pursue a career in sports marketing or brand management.

From the day I was born, I have lived in the small city of Duluth, Georgia, known to locals as “Wildcat Country”. I grew up as the only child of James and Hilarie Straka, but my close-knit community gave me the feeling of a large family. I began dancing and performing at the age of 3 and continued into my teenage years. In high school, I became very involved in Cheerleading, which provided me with many lasting friendships. However, academics were always important and taught me about time management. I learned a strong work ethic from all of my job experience in the summers. Traveling was also a major part of my family growing up. My parents and my grandparents took me on many wonderful trips, which gave me the chance to see the world at such a young age. Today, looking back, my family, community, education, athletic experiences, travels abroad, and diverse relationships have shaped me into the person I am today, while teaching me priceless life lessons. I have found college to be the most rewarding experience of my life thus far. It has given me the opportunity to participate in so many diverse activities and do a lot of personal growing. I am currently majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. After completing my undergraduate degree, I hope to continue on to law school and eventually practice Real Estate Law.

My early childhood years were spent basking in the hot, humid Ft. Lauderdale sun, but I loved every minute of it. I went to a small, Christian private school where I learned the fundamentals of education, and morals to live by for the rest of my life. Then, at the young age of 8 my family and I packed up and moved to Michigan. On that dreaded day as we pulled out of my beloved home I told my mom that when I graduated from high school I was going to move back to the south. The majority of my elementary and middle school years were spent playing soccer for a travel team, running track and cross country, and of course maintaining high grades because I knew that if I wanted to choose where to go to college I had to work hard. In high school I was still devoted to traveling all across the Midwest playing soccer but I began to be more actively involved in programs such as student government and National Honor Society. Outside of school I enjoyed socializing with my friends, participating in groups such as Young Life, babysitting, waiting tables and managing a local restaurant. When it was time to start applying for college, my family whole- heartedly supported my decision to go out-of-state, and more particularly to the south. After admittance to the universities where I applied, I came to Georgia to visit UGA and I was hooked. Since attending UGA I have participated in the Baptist Student Union, helping underprivileged children at Broad Acres, playing intramural sports, and working in the research field and business side of new medical technology. Recently, I was accepted into Marketing as my major of choice and I look forward to a more focused education to come.

I am a rising senior. I was born and raised in the metropolis of Macon, Georgia home of the Allman Brothers and the Cherry Blossom Festival. After my ninth grade year of high school in Macon I decided to go to an all male boarding school, Woodberry Forest, in the middle of Virginia. The change was huge, but definitely for the better. At Woodberry I played football, ran track, and fished on the river that ran through campus. Just six days after my graduation I found myself sitting in my first college class at the University of Georgia. Since then I've done everything from work on my golf game (there's still a lot of room for improvement), become a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, be a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, to occasional study and most importantly, just enjoy every day at the University of Georgia. This past summer I participated in an International Finance program with a fellow scholar. In this program we studied in New York City and London. I was born one beautiful March afternoon in Savannah, GA. I spent the next few years in Valdosta, GA until my father’s job brought us to settle in Lithonia. I have always been involved in many activities from a very young age. My participation included the church choir, piano lessons, ballet classes, and elementary school student government. As I grew, so did my interests. I spent my high school years involved with church activities, the marching and symphonic bands, the soccer team, student government, and various honor societies and community service organizations. As a college student I have been able to enhance my academic experience while continuing my involvement with my school and community. As an International Business and Spanish major, I have also gained a great deal of insight about the world around me through various study abroad experiences that I have had during my time at the university.

I was born and raised in Tifton, Georgia in the heart of South Georgia. Throughout my childhood and into my youth, my family helped me to grow and develop and encouraged me to be the best I could be in all areas of life. Also impacting my life was the influence of my church, the First United Methodist Church of Tifton. Music was always important and prominent in my life as I grew up. In middle school, junior high, and high school I was involved in choral programs and was selected for the Georgia All-State Chorus all of my 6 years of eligibility. I also played guitar and led the worship music for my church’s youth group throughout high school. Once I entered college, I immediately became active in the Wesley Foundation, which has further helped to develop me into a stronger, better person. The Wesley Foundation has allowed me leadership opportunities, as I have become a member of the leadership team, a worship leader in the praise and worship band, and a leader of a Freshman Bible group. Through the Wesley Foundation I also have had an opportunity to participate in a mission trip to Port Maria, Jamaica. I have also had numerous opportunities to develop myself through involvement in a social fraternity. In addition to leadership opportunities, my fraternity has provided a channel for accessing community service opportunities, including road cleanups, river cleanups, and volunteer time at the Athens-area Boys and Girls Club. Participation in the UGA Honors program and majoring in accounting have challenged me academically and are preparing me for the challenges of life after college. I intend to remain at the University of Georgia and pursue a Master of Accountancy.

When I was 7 years old, my family immigrated to the United States from Latvia, Riga, a former part of the USSR. Growing up, my parents stressed the importance of preserving my native language, and, thanks to them, I am still fluent in Russian. Throughout life, I have been fortunate enough to have made many unforgettable memories, all of which have helped to shape me into the person I am today. I have also acquired a strong passion for photography and use it as a medium to express myself creatively. In college, I have found my extracurricular involvement to be just as beneficial as any class that I have taken. I have learned valuable lessons from my experiences and have formed friendships that will stay with me forever. For the past two summer and winter breaks, I have been working at Isenberg & Hewitt, an Atlanta-based law firm, where I truly feel that I am part of the family. I am currently pursuing a dual degree in Marketing and Advertising, with a Minor in French and hope to continue my studies to earn a combined JD/MBA.

The first two years at the University of Georgia are almost complete and I can hardly believe it!! If the next two are as fun and as rewarding as the first two, then it definitely will probably be the best four years of my life. As a freshman, I attended Miami University in Oxford, OH for my first semester. After traveling to the cornfields of Ohio, I realized that I missed the southern hospitality and the warm weather. In the spring semester of 2001, I transferred to the university and I have found my niche by getting involved in several activities both on and off campus. Prior to college, I spent my high school years in Alpharetta, GA and graduated from Chattahoochee High School. I moved throughout the country during my childhood years; however, I have finally found that feeling of “home” here in Athens.

I was born just outside of Boston, Massachusetts in the small town of Andover with two older brothers and one younger brother that was on the way. At the age of five my family relocated to a small town outside of Albany, New York. I spent my elementary and middle school years here and got involved in traveling hockey and lacrosse teams, which allowed me to develop team-building and leadership skills at an early age. At the end of my eighth-grade year my father’s job with General Electric took my family south to Alpharetta, Georgia. I spent all four years at Chattahoochee High School where I once again got involved in team sports as well as National Honors society and other community activities. Instead of going back up north I decided to attend UGA. I feel this was an excellent decision as it has brought about many wonderful opportunities and friends. I am currently involved in the professional fraternity Delta Sigma Pi in which I hold the office of VP of Pledge Education. Out side of school I enjoy boating, outdoor activities, and team sports. After graduation I plan on attending graduate school and have the hopes of some day opening my own business.

Although I was born in New Jersey, I grew up in Dunwoody then moved to Atlanta about four years ago, so I consider Georgia to be my home. Before coming to the University of Georgia, I had attended Catholic school for 10 years. But by the time I was a senior, I was ready to move to a bigger and more diverse college community. Over the past two years, I have especially loved living in Athens because the students are such an important part of the town. However, after I graduate I foresee myself living in a larger metropolitan area. As of recently, I declared my major, but I am still not sure what career I want to pursue. I am very sure though that whatever job I may choose, my Spanish-speaking abilities will play a large role. In fact, my dream is to live and work in South America for at least five years.

My parents moved to Hoover, Alabama (a suburb of Birmingham) when I was 6 years old. I spent the next twelve years playing competitive soccer all across the southeast. In high school I played Varsity soccer for 4 years and continued playing for my club team, but decided I wanted a college experience without soccer’s demands. When trying to decide where to spend my college years, I did not apply to any in-state schools. Growing up I could not wait to leave Alabama, but looking back I am grateful that I lived in such a supportive and friendly environment. I am the youngest of three girls, and my older sisters have blessed me with two nephews, a niece, and one more on the way. Attending UGA has been a truly unforgettable experience and I have met so many interesting and diverse people through various organizations on campus. I have spent the last 4 summers working at Johnny Rocket’s restaurant in Birmingham where I proudly wear a hat, a bowtie, and sing into a ketchup bottle. However, this summer I am escaping to study abroad with the Terry program in Oxford, England. I am a Marketing major contemplating law school.

As a child of military parents, I was afforded the opportunity to travel and live in various places within and outside of the boundaries of the United States. By interacting with people from other cultures in England, the Philippines, Germany, and the Netherlands, I have learned the importance of appreciating not only the diversity of cultures, but also the diversity of values, ideas, and personalities that each individual possesses. After retirement, my family moved to St. Marys, Georgia, where I graduated from Camden County High School. I am extremely excited to be a Leadership Scholar and am looking forward to taking advantage of all that the program has to offer.

I have lived in Gainesville, GA ever since second grade. I am currently a member of Blackshear Place Baptist church and I attend Green Acres Baptist here in Athens. Jesus Christ, along with my parents, is the reason I have succeeded thus far in life; I give all the glory to him. I attended Johnson High School, where I was the salutatorian. I also lettered in four varsity sports: football, basketball, golf, and track. My major community service activity during high-school was peer tutoring. Tutoring my fellow students taught me how to be a mentor to someone in need of help and how to manage my schedule in such a way that the time spent with others did not negatively impact my grades. At UGA, I continued my commitment to student tutoring through Project READY at Clarke Central High School. Also, by becoming a member of Phi Alpha Delta, Pre- Law Fraternity, I have had the opportunity to serve meals at a soup kitchen and help keep our local streets litter-free, as well as prepare for my future career as a corporate attorney. My other current activities include UGA College Republicans, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I also led a successful effort to initiate an undergraduate mock-trial program here at UGA.

I have lived in Birmingham, Alabama my entire life, so deciding to attend an out-of-state school was a big change for me. Growing up, my parents taught me never to settle for anything less than my best, and I learned every day from them life lessons that help me accomplish my goals still today. I have a little sister, Adrienne, who is a freshman in high school. Though some might say she looks up to me, I have begun to look to her as a true friend rather than just a sister. I have attended Saint Mark United Methodist church in Birmingham my whole life, and I have found there multiple loving families who view me as one of their own and with whom I share countless memories. In high school, student government was my passion, and I loved being involved in behind-the-scenes work. I received many wonderful honors at Hoover High School that further motivated me to give college everything I could. I received the Charter and Regents Scholarships from UGA and after long deliberation decided to make Athens my new home. I joined a sorority and made lifelong friends and memories, and I am currently the assistant recruitment chair so that I may lead others to make the wonderful friends I have made. I am in the honors program here at UGA, which has opened many doors for me and greatly broadened my thinking. I was recently accepted into the Terry College of Business Finance major and intend to become an investment banker (much thanks to my father’s inspiration). I am extremely excited about the opportunities that await me as a Terry Scholar.

I was born in 1981 in Marietta, Georgia and have lived there my entire life. I planned on attending UGA ever since I was a child because my great grandfather, great uncle, father, and cousins have all attended UGA. But, after graduating in 1999 from Pope High School, I attended a yearlong study abroad program in Israel before coming to Georgia. I initially did not want to go, but my parents left me no option because my brother attended the same program, and I had a great time. My year abroad was the best year of my life. Being in another country and experiencing another culture was phenomenal. This summer, I went to study abroad again. I went with GLOBIS program to Verona, Italy. Before I met the program, I spent two weeks in London and Scotland. Once again, I had a great time experiencing another country’s culture. When I got home from the eight week trip, I help chaperone a trip to New York City, and then I traveled to Orlando for a week. When I got back to school, I decided on declaring myself as finance major.

My life has been a whirlwind since graduating form Parkview High School in 1999. I have traveled extensively with my modeling career to the cities of New York, Miami, Chicago, and London. I entered in the fall of 1999. I pledged in to Phi Mu, and became active on campus in such organizations such as SGA, the sailing team, and Alpha Lambda Delta. Even though I was very active in and outside the University, I still yearned for the traditional college experience that Georgia State’s urban campus was unable to provide. I transferred to UGA in the fall of 2001. I also made a commitment to utilize my time here at UGA. Since transferring, I have become and affiliate in the Phi Mu chapter here, been inducted to Order of Omega, and have become a member of the newly Varsity Equestrian Team. I am looking forward to graduating with a degree in Risk Management. I then plan to take a year off to travel before entering law school. I have not yet decided what kind of law I intend to practice, however, prosecution and entertainment law do interest me. Next summer, I will be studying abroad with NYU and interning at a company in London.
