A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 80 sample households from two sample kebele. In the study, both primary and secondary data sources were used. Simple Linear Regression Model was employed to identify factors affecting level of income earned from improved potato production by resource poor farmers in the district. Results showed that using improved potato variety increase the production and productivity of the specific commodity and there help the resource poor farmers to build asset. Abattoir survey of hydatidosis was conducted during routine meat inspection activity on randomly selected 384 cattle encountered at Bele Municipality Abattoir. Ante-mortem examination was conducted to note the breed, age, sex and body condition of study animals. These animals were given number in order to identify them during the postmortem examination. Post mortem examination was conducted to note the presence of hydatid cysts. A total of 56 (14.57%) cattle were affected with hydatid cyst. The study shows that there was significant variation in the prevalence of hydatid cyst in different peasant association (p<0.05). However, no such association was observed in prevalence of hydatid cysts according to sex, age, breed and body condition of slaughtered animals (p=0.499, p=0.086, p=0.613, p=0.140, respectively). The study period of the economic loss due to organ condemnation associated to bovine hydatidosis at the abattoir was estimated 6,720.00 Ethiopian Birr.

The demographic and socio-economic data were collected from 300 randomly selected rural households. The basic data for the study were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. The collected data were analysed by using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The study revealed land is one of the basic economic assets of and livelihood sources for agrarian rural people but the size of the plots is so small in the study area. The findings concerning the livelihood assets that had been developed were presented in line with the three livelihood assets, namely human, natural, and financial capital, all of which were shown to have negative results. The above- mentioned livelihood assets in the study area were weak. From the human assets section, 41percent of the study population had not achieved a school educational qualification. About half percent of respondents said their soil was not fertile from the physical assets perspective. A large number of respondents did not practise saving on account of their low daily-income status. Thus concerning body including government should strongly work on the discussed rural assets built up to minimize the rural household’s livelihood problems in study area. A total of 3287(1701 male and 1586 female) adult ixodid ticks were collected from 500 animals during the study period. In this study three genera/sub-genus; Amblyomma, Rh. (Boophilus) and Rhipicephalus and four species were identified. From the Keywords three genera Amblyomma takes highest prevalence (45.29%). From four species identified, two Cattle, Genus, Ixodidae ticks, of them belong to genus Amblyomma; Amblyomma variegatum and Amblyomma cohaerence, Prevalence, Sodo Zuria, Species. one Boophilus; Boophilus decoloratus and one Rhipicephalus; Rhipicephalus evertsievertsi. The quantitative hierarchy of the tick species was Rh. evertsi (14.40%), A. cohaerence (17.60%), A. variegatum (27.66%) and B. decoloratus (40.34%) in ascending order. Of those, 33,000 children living in 55 woredas covered by NGO activity are in need of treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition. And as many as 28,000 living in 43 woredas not covered by NGO activity are also in need of treatment for Severe Acute Malnutrition. • UNICEF additionally estimates that due to the drought as many as 6 million children under five are currently at risk of acute malnutrition. • Current population in therapeutic feeding centres in SNNPR and Oromiya: 7000 and rising. • Malnutrition in SNNPR and Oromiya continue to increase at alarming rates. Kwashiorkor and other malnutrition-related diseases are prevalent in hotspot areas. • UNICEF and WFP resources to address both severe malnutrition and moderate malnutrition in affected areas are severely strained. Both blended food and Plumpy’Nut are in demand yet stocks are very limited. WFP facing immediate pipeline break of 40,000 MT of Cory-Soya Blend (CSB) for relief and targeted supplementary feeding.
