THE AHA FOUNDATION resource directory THE AHA FOUNDATION CONTENTS In response to ongoing abuses of women’s rights, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and her supporters established the AHA Foundation in 2007 to protect THE AHA FOUNDATION 3 and defend the rights of women and girls in the U.S. from oppression Direct Service Organizations 4 justified by religion and culture. The AHA Foundation works to protect Research and Advocacy Organizations 27 and reinforce the basic rights and freedoms of women and girls, and is Domestic Violence Hotlines 32 particularly focused on forced marriages, honor violence, and female Government Agencies (NYC) 34 genital mutilation. NYC District Attorneys 37 w As an advocacy organization, the AHA Foundation engages in four primary activities to combat these horrific forms of violence against women and girls. First, we investigate reports of these crimes and compile data, which is not currently tracked by any law enforcement or government agency. Second, we inform the public and raise awareness about the presence of these crimes in the U.S. Third, we work to persuade politicians and policymakers to prioritize the enforcement of laws that protect women’s rights and, where necessary, to create special legislation to protect the rights and freedoms of women and girls from oppression justified by religion and culture. Fourth, we offer training and support to law enforcement and service providers about these issues and refer women who contact us for help to appropriate services. More information about our work can be found on our website: www.theahafoundation.org. This resource directory is intended to provide contact information for organizations that may be able to assist women facing threats of honor violence, forced marriage, or female genital mutilation. Although we made efforts to research each of these organizations, we did not visit each of them personally and therefore cannot vouch for their safety. If you would like additional assistance locating a service provider or law enforcement agency in your area, please contact the AHA Foundation at [email protected]. 2 I the aha foundation resource directory I 3 direct service organizations ALABAMA ALASKA State Wide Hotline AWAIC - ABUSED WOMEN’S 1-800-650-6522 AID IN CRISIS http://www.awaic.org/ FAMILY SUNSHINE CENTER 100 W. 13th Ave. http://familysunshine.org/ Anchorage, AK 99501 direct service organizations PO Box 5160, Montgomery, 907-279-9581 Alabama 36103-5160 907-279-7244 (Fax) 334-206-2100 / 334-206-2111 (fax) [email protected] Crisis Line: 334-263-0218 or Crisis Line: 907-272-0100 1-800 650-6522 Services Offered: 24-Hour Services Offered: 24-Hour Help Help Line, 24-Hour Emergency Line, 24-Hour Emergency Shelter (52 Beds, Children Up To Shelter (12 Rooms, Children 18) , Counseling Services, Case Up To 18), Counseling Services, Management, Children’s Services, Case Management, Transitional Transitional Housing, Legal Housing Services Populations: All Populations: All Shelter: Yes (24-Hour) Shelter: Yes (24-Hour) Hotline: Yes (24-Hour) Hotline: Yes (24-Hour) PLEASE NOTE: The AHA Foundation has not personally visited each organization listed and therefore can not guarantee them as being safe 4 I the aha foundation resource directory I 5 direct service organizations direct service organizations ARIZONA CALIFORNIA Housing, Counseling Services, Services, Permanent Housing Legal Services, Children and Support FAITH HOUSE LOS ANGELES COUNTY: Youth Services Populations: All http://www.faithhousearizona.
